For those people who love Chopin I would like to add some secret of his music. His music is part of the greatest orchestra his country had at that time in Paris - Cyprian Norwid, Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Slowacki. Zimerman polish heritage transforms Chopin music back to those days where your country strugle for existence.
the touch on his right hand melody is absolutely exquisite. the dynamic change and shape is more than Chopin could ask for. after the doppio, the return of the melody is absolutely breathtaking. Incredible!
I just posted my interpretation of Nocturne opus 9 ,No.2. I would appreciate your comments. Please click on my link 'alfonsopablo' next to this comment to listen.
Certainly one of the greatest performances of this masterpiece. His technique is breathtaking. The doppio mouvmento starts off as dreamy as one could ever hope for. The embellishments all have that feather touch, with masterful control, evoking the poetry of the music.
@jojobruin What are you even talking about? Is this a joke?Mozart acted as a foundation for chopin's music. Chopin has admitted it himself. He may not have written music that is as emotional as the music that has been written in the romantic period, but in terms of musical beauty, Mozart has brought heaven down to earth. I am not trying to insult you here.I am just saying that you must take your time and reconsider his music. I mean we are talking about the fucking dude here..
but all of you ever wondered why great pianist in 20 century is more like great musician/player than great composer and player like it was in other centuries?
ah it's like the music is making love to my ears! I simply adore the way Zimmerman plays Chopin, makes my heart skip a beat, I am so in love with this piece.
exceptionnal ... one of my favorite interprets of Chopin ... perhaps a bit to much "too romantic", I have the feeling that Chopin was a bit more modern that this programmed romantic music.
But still .. so far superior to many others interrpets
I remember a real gloomy point in my life and this exact piece was caressing my mind; it didn't make me at all feel better, but it did make feel more alive.
I remember a real gloomy point in my life and remembering this exact piece caress my mind; it didn't make me at all feel better, but it did make feel more alive. And I was better for it.
A nocturne is a night piece, right?, it is supposed to be an evocation of the "nightime mood". Well, how much do you get it here? He plays like an imprommptu, and the central part he makes straight out athletic, like he strayed into Liszt?...
Wow, this is a wonderful performance. What colors he gets, shadings! Marvelous taste in the pedaling at the end! And GREAT playing of the grace notes!
I like Chopin Nocturne very much. Since I can see a famous player's playing and listen his playing at the same time in the YouTube, it is more pleasure to listen through the record. Moreover, I listen songs after selecting among various versions of the same song.
Zimerman as ever, is just without equal, this piece is just incredibly nostalgic and retrospective, I will always be amazed at how Chopin conveys emotions through sound! Chopin totally transcended the boundaries of the disciplines at which he excelled! He was also incredibly modest, often suggesting people should listen to Bach or Mozart instead of his own music! An exceptional human being !!!!
@trancosomarcus very true... Chopin may not be on equil ground with Mozart or Beethoven as far as composing huge works like masses and symphonies, but he surpasses ALL composers with his concept of the piano and its sounds and harmonies. Even the super titanic (and arguably greatest ever) pianist Liszt admitted he could not match Chopin's poetry. even Chopin's most simple and basic compositions that an early pianist could play (prelude in a major, or a nocturne) are pure genius
@Doug19752533 mozart's music is the superficial and soulless to my ears. I suppose he is a true genius for obtaining his status in western classical music given how shallow the majority of his output is.
Excellent piece! I remember that when a I was little, I watched and old cartoon and the background played was this incredible and unremarkable piece. Great memories. Great composer. Chopin for the eternity... Thanks for posting it.
@smoothreaperx According to George Sand, the inspiration would simply come and Chopin would work at it taking plenty of time sometimes crying from frustration because he couldn't find exactly what he wanted.
his feeling of excitement is scary..(in a good way tough,,;-) ) im missing this excitement in yundi li's playing...compare the climax in the piece and you'll hear that yundi just play to mezzo forte or sumtin, while zimerman gets into a fortissimo..divine..!
Chapeau.
