lemondtourmalet, you can ride on the Cote d'Azur during races, it's not out-of-bounds. However, you cannot pass on the inside if a rider is in the 'sprinter lane', which is between the black and red lines. Normally in pursuit event, there will be barriers in the ribbon so you can't easily ride on it.
MMnn! Well I can tell you for a fact that if you raced up the blue to pass a rider you'd be called off the track by officials. Basically if you ride down the inside like that you'll run out of anywhere to go when you get to the end of the straight. Watch one of the six-day videos from Europe and then watch these guys - no comparison.
Ha! you're right - these guys don't know much about track riding - slow pedaling rate, coming inside the line and just can't follow a wheel at all. I'm surprised they didn't really get hurt.
Well I see what you mean about the fall off at the start. Don't much understand what's going on inthe race - looks like a load of guys who've never raced getting together to just have some fun. Nobody follows a wheel, nobody works with anyone else, nobody much rides straight, and everybody wants to go up the banking - but for what?
Move all you want in the sprinters lane which is between the black and red lines, but never go below the black line. I know its steep, but try not to dip below.
I've been on a track where you could put your toes on the bottom of the bank and actually touch the riding surface out in front of you - 57 degrees of bank I think someone said. You could only just clear the pedal from touching the track when moving slowly. Bit like riding round the end of the bath (only bigger!)
@cmacblue42 well yeah, actual track riders get to a very high speed and lean into the turn in order to pull around. They get up to 40 and sometimes 50 mph, the steep curve is necessary
Who is the dumass who decided to start the race at that point? That is ridiculous; look at the banking - the start line is supposed to be after the far end of the curve, not right ahead of it at the 'spectator rail'. That is where Madison partners wait...wtf?! Look up Alpenrose Velodrome. We do it outdoors. In Portland. Oregon. On a 43 deg piste. You don't know what slippery is if you haven't been on wet concrete.
this is so funny. this sucks
