The beginning of this film is used as part of the opening to Adam Curtis's documentary series "Pandora's Box", a series of films about government and technocracy. Highly recommended watching for anyone interested in politics and power.
My guess is that these two were minor celebrities in the 50's that would be recognizable then, but now completely forgotten. I mean, how many of you know who Robert Clivillés and David Cole is anymore (and no, that's not a challenge to fans.)
@CleaningCaptain The masked guy is Marc Breaux, who would go on to be fairly successful choreographer for such movies as "Mary Poppins" and "The Sound of Music" and several TV shows. He wasn't exactly a household name or an instantly-recognizable figure even when this short was made (1956), however, so I don't know what the point of "Oh, it's you!" is supposed to be.
The woman is played by Thelma Tadlock, another dancer who went on to a lengthy career behind the scenes as a choreographer.
"Looks like mother's little helpers kicked in." X-D I just watched this mst3k short last night and I haven't laughed out loud like I did at the dead raccoon comment in a very long time. 8-D
You know this explains why we had to bail out the Auto Industry: they spent all their money on crazy car shows but forgot the whole CAR aspect of a car show.
Also is appearing in old Car Show Promos how Tuexdo Mask can afford that big appartment, motorcycle and sports car he has?
@snakes3425 no, this was back in the day when the auto industry wasn't overburdened with rediculous unreasonable cafe standards, outragous union pay packages, & ralph nader. they spent their time making great cars.
This was a promotional film for GM. But in the REAL future there is no Pontiac or Oldsmobile. Girl was pretty hot though, and the sweet 50s concept cars that never saw production. I love retro-futuristic!
I love it at 3:50 when Murphy's (Tom Servo) doing scat to the music, making Mike and Trace start snickering. Out of ALL the hilarious things they say, THAT'S the thing that pushes them over the edge. Classic.
Bizarrely, the original version of this short appeared as part of the Classic Arts Showcase (until now a constant dumping ground for clips from foreign musicals and recordings of ballet and opera in their original languages) on the local community college's little indie cable station.
I'm watching it end just now, and now they're showing the soundtrack and "passage of time" sequence from Goerge Pal's "The Time Machine"> *shrugs*
I wonder how the writer of Mst3k missed the connection to the song "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch", as the sound Ravenscroft's voice is hard to miss (Unless it was considered to be an obvious joke/riff by the staff.)

Given that he did this before did those role, probably just a voice acting gig he to pay his bills.
The short was made 1956.
("Note": The masked man in the short was played by a choreographer named Marc Breaux.)
Well at least they didn't have "Flying Cars" in this short.
(A futuristic invention which completely impractical in our Post-911 world. I can just imagine how thrilled Al-Qaeda would be to have their own "Flying Car Bombs". Hey if that were the case, "illegal Arms Dealers" could go into the "Used Flying Car" business.)
To Quote Crow:
"Just because it's futuristic, doesn't mean it's pactical."
I mean a "Flying Car" is a great piece of fiction & nothing more than wishful thinking.
This short shows GM at it's creative and financial height. Just goes to show what a difference a few decades can make, now it's hanging on by a thread on government life support.
You have to remember that the people who made this had lived through the depression and world war II in a 15 year span. They had scars they were trying to heal, and that they were trying to ensure their children would never experience. Looking back, we have the benefit of knowing the unintended consequences that come with unbridled consumerism. Looking forward, they did not.

The "Kitchen of Tommorow" section was completely off-base & the "guys" made sure to point that out.
Crow make a valid point at 3:46 -
"Just because it's futuristic, doesn't mean it's pactical."
Mike at 4:47 - "Unh-uh, I Call No Way!"
(& Tom agrees with him saying,
"Unh-uh, Candles & everything.)
Also I swear the male singer is Thurl Arther Ravenscroft (who voices "Tony the Tiger & sung "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch").
If it is him, I guess he must have need the cash (at the time).
