She played sweet Vivian Cavender Harmon on the Bea Arthur show Maude. She was naive and adorable. It is said that she was to play the Betty White character Rose on the Golden Girls. And Betty White was to play Blanche. They supposedly didn't want to play type cast characters and asked to switch roles. Betty was fiesty and spicy on Mary Tyler Moore. I love the song you've chosen, but I hate to see Rue only remembered for the great, but shallow, self centered Blanche. The pictures are a treat.

I'll always miss her like crazy. Never met her, and I was born after Golden Girls went off the air. But that show contributed so much to my development. I learned a lot from those women. And they'll always mean the world to me. Their characters became my friends. And though they've left us, they've left us with a lot.

My husband and I just finished watching all the episodes of the Golden Girls. Now that we have reached that Golden Age ;-) we can appreciate a lot better the vivacity, the audacity and the humour of these 4 wonderful ladies. There are no episodes left and we feel like having lost our best friends. I wish the best to Betty White in her new endeavour. She is an inspiration.
