  • Ayds candy came out WAY before the tragic disease got its name...

  • Oh..my.. god. That is the funniest thing ive seen in a wile XD

  • Ever see the episode with Jarod's Aides?

  • Fried shrimp? No thanks I'll just eat an entire box of these little candies and I'll be just fine.

  • They were still marketing AYDS this late in the '80s? YIKES!

  • Well, here it is: The most poorly market-researched product in the history of mankind. Somebody alert South Park...

  • @emmjay2662 Or not, since AYDS came well before AIDS.

  • surprisingly, i never see this in stores it would have worked good on me because i crave almost anythign good

  • I just came at :04.

  • fired shrimp

    no i have ayds

  • Didnt they figure out when the disease was named that they better change the name of their product immediately? Theres some real morons in corporate America. Seriously kids you can do anything you want. Look how many stupid people there are out there.

  • @Silvertrine at first, the sales weren't effected so they didn't feel the need to. but then after all of the negative press, they did

  • @Silvertrine

In the UK, the candy was renamed "Aydslim". Seeing as how one nickname for AIDS is "slim disease", Aydslim might have been a worse name!

  • fried shrimp?

    nah ill just have AYDS

  • AYDS. Available now in your nearest bathhouse.

  • I'm surprised they hadn't changed the name by '86. I guess they hadn't name AIDS yet.

  • AIDS was named in 1982, but it still was not very widely talked about until the late 80s early 90s.

Before it was named AIDS, it was called GRIDS. :B *supanerd*

  • The fun part of GRIDS is that it stood for "Gay-related immunity defficiency syndrome"

  • lol aids taste like carmel

    mmmm i want some

  • This has to be the absolute very last commericial they ran. I remember the ads well & probably have at least 40 of them recorded inadvertantly in my tape collection of several thousand, starting in 1976! I remember in 1983 when "Gay Related Immune Dificiency" (or G.R.I.D.) changed names, literally overnight - & wondering immediately about the 'diet candy commercials' for Ayds & when they would eventually come to a halt. I also wondered why they didn't just keep the product & simply rename it.

  • ollolololo

  • "fried shrimp" ? Not for me, I just got AYDS...

    LOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • too much fried shrimp leads to aids

  • Sorry I don't want any shrimp, I will have some AYDS instead

  • i wish she would have said

    Guy: "fried shrimp?"

Woman: No thanks, i got AYDS

  • lmao

  • lol nice one

  • bwahahahahahahahaa dude you're funny!

  • Thank You For Replying; Ayds Candy 'claimed' to be marketed as an un-registered product beginning from 1937, similar to product/claims sold from disease carrying traveling push-cart/hoax-shows that use religious claims to sell poison, which people such as Harry Houdini regularly de-bunked as another form of 'spiritual con-job', but in 1944 the U.S. Government challenged the 'Ayds candy' weight-loss claims, thus forcing the 'hoaxsters' to modify their claims.

    Cheers!

  • Caramel flavored AYDS. Ha...

  • Fried shrimp?

    YES PLEASE!!!!

  • Thank You For Posting;

Although, the AYDS candy was named a decade before the A.I.D.S. plague, perhaps the persons that named the plague owes financial restitution to the candy company for destroying their business.

    Cheers!

  • Would have been funnier if when the guy said "Fried shrimp?" she would reply, "No thanks. I have Ayds."

  • ROFL. Thatwould be awesome

  • hahahaha

  • LOL LOL ... yeah that'd be funny. Geez I remember these commercials. There is one missing here though. A dark haired lady is looking at the camera holding the box up saying "lose weight with the aid of Ayds"...

  • You're welcome, and thanks for posting it; I had not seen this particular commercial before tonight.

  • Attmay's right; I've seen Ayds commercials dating back to the early '70s.

However, I will never understand why the company never thought to change its name. Didn't they realize having a drug that sounded like the name of a horrific disease would scare people away? Especially when the disease also makes you rapidly lose weight!

  • The drug came first.
