  • Stupid thing to do.

  • This is actually taught in some sidemount courses, in cases of extreme regulator/hose failure.

  • well I will not be doing that!

  • ur dumb ass fuck we did that at blue grotto on the plat forms and my friend keith fucked up his lungs

  • ummm thats as stupid as u can get

  • Can you leave the valve open and act as if it were a free flow regulator?

  • LOL Recie divers;) This is a required technique for cave diving, if your reg free flows in a cave then you MUST be able to do this so you do not waste all the gas inside in a few minutes, not that this is exactly that being demonstrated but still don’t be so harsh, it’s a handy trick...

    Ask Steve Bogaerts;)

    GO SIDEMOUNT!

  • @Beatconducto why would anyone go cave diving there is still no way to have a rebreather after you have sucked all the air out of your tank

  • Pointless, dangerous, and frankly a stupid video....

  • @chapmasi A useful technique if you have a malfunctioning reg on a sidemount rig.

  • @chapmasi Don't comment on something you don't know about.

  • @IceHot423 I have my AOW + EANx + over 65 logged dives, and although I'm certainly not an instructor nor claim to be an expert, I think that gives me a certain degree of diving experience. This technique could only ever be needed if you were on your own and your primary 1st stage fails, and a pony bottle 1st stage also fails. The chances of which are less than winning the lotto. As said before, this is silly, dangerous and pointless video.

  • this is ok for emergencies, but should NOT be used as a primary breathing method.

Breath this way at your own risk, just be aware of a few things: a regulator precisely adjusts the 3000psi tank pressure to the ambient pressure making it safe to breathe. If you open that valve just a little to far, you will be forcing pressurized air into your lungs, which could result in lung over-expansion (your lungs will blow up). you'll also get bent if you then bolt to the surface.

  • It's ok for emergencies.

  • pretty cool. but its a great way to hurt your self as well

  • jackass

  • It doesn't look like he's very deep. Still kinda stupid though. Way back in the day, i.e. before ole' Jacques perfected the on-demand regulator, this was how compressed air tank diving was done, by manually opening & closing the valve.

  • this is how uni students dive.

  • lol sanctum

  • I´m sorry to say that posting this is very irresponsible.

  • Does the Navy teach that to SEALs?

  • so what- is there a point to this?

  • This behavior is not condoned in any way by PADI or it's affiliates. This method of diving is deemed unsafe and only encourages poor safety practices while diving. Allowing other viewers to simply nab a tank and try their hand at something considered extremely dangerous by those not properly trained. Please do not attempt what is being done is this video for any reason.

  • @capnkillu I wont why is he even doing it?

  • Excelent watermanship you demonstrated, I supposed you are a fellow diver and a NITROX diver,

A courteous alert for all those want to practice this skill ones,Don't stay too deep and stay too long and ascend too fast to get lung injury or decompression sickness

  • I would end up with a bloody lip or a broken tooth

  • mate you wouldn't want to open the valve too quick. Lung explosion!

  • I tried that-but broke my tooth !

    Tank valve too hard.

  • HOW is he staying down without lead?

  • I've done this too.

You very loosely suck in air, like you're drinking water from a garden hose.

Turn valve on and off for each breath.

  • It's a self-contained underwater breathing apparatus. Ergo, it's SCUBA.

Great video. I thought I'd seen someone breathing directly off a tank in a different video but I wasn't sure it was possible. I'm thinking it's not easy.....

Did you vent the tank toward the end for buoyancy reasons, or just for fun?

  • What part of this is SCUBA

  • oh YEAH.. I would love to see that on video!

  • this would have been amazing if he'd done it without the mask!!

  • next time I will try! ;)

  • @drlnx why?

  • @FantasticBob7000 just to try whether it was possible / easy or not, just for fun!

  • @eyesopenuw It would be safer without the mask. The additional seal it provides would not let air out in case it did go wrong, nasal blow off valve for 3000psi :)
