  • The high five tip helped me a lot, thanks for the video

  • your so gay i kood barely see after watching this video-_-

  • Excellent recommendations and breakdown of this complex stroke. Thanks from Argentina !!!

  • too much to learn

great vids, alot to take in and practice

  • Your videos are awesome! This helped me alot. My coach keeps telling me to finish my right arm motion first and then toss the ball. Is that really true? I mean, he's not a really good coach in my opinion so should I toss and do my right arm motion or finish the motion first then toss it? (I'm ambidextrous if that helps)

  • Need exercise tips for tennis ?

  • I also play tennis. My coach say's i let the ball drop everytime i serve. How can i know i'm doing that.

  • choke up on the handle and flick, that should teach it

  • @FirstTurnKill

Not rlly. Pros use eastern backhand grip to serve a kick. Some even use it for flatserve.

  • i suck at serves and this afternoon i tried a jump serve and guess what i can now hit the ball with accurate and power. i tought it would be usefull to make this serve mines and perfect (before i learn myslef the wrong way) so i searched for videos and found your great explaination im gonna perfect the technique thx 2 you!

  • FOOT FAUL!!! lol jk

  • Lol at the Saffin shots, he looks ultra retarded. Nice videos! Very detailed! Gonna have trouble remembering all this :)

  • Is it fine if you use the Eastern Grip to serve, or is it best to use the grip Will recommended so you can pronate your wrist?

  • Every high-level player uses Continental, which is similar to an Eastern backhand but not quite as extreme. Using Eastern backhand or forehand grips on serve makes pronation nearly impossible.

  • im 15 and i started playing tennis at 13 ... can i be a professional player ??

  • If you are good enough. Why not ? Ok you started late but dont let that stop you. Follow your dream , lots of practice though

  • hey thanks alot ...

  • Your welcome , God bless you and your family. If there is one piece of advice I could offer in regards to tennis that is that all the great plays have a strong and solid serve,And that comes of course with PRACTICE

  • According to the book "Outliers," researchers agree that it takes about 10,000 hours of serious practice in order to have world class skills at anything. That's about 10 years of practicing a few hours a day. So the more hours you get in now (especially with an instructor), the better chance ya have.

  • why not

  • yes

  • i'm in the same situation...xDD i started at 12...you have to be an extremley talented and stuborn to succeed...i don't plan on trying to do that ..but if you feel that way why not...it isn't imposible :)) i'd realy like to play against someone who plays for a long time...just to ee where i am :))

  • depend on your determination.

  • you could, but you shouldn't ;)

research when pros (like you want to become) have started playing and you'll see that you should be able to win wimbledon in about 2 years. :)

  • at 17 i think you can do some atp stuff. not know alot about how to become pro.

  • Why can't you swing with ur strings open? What's wrong with that?

  • Similar effect to the snap of a whip at the last split second = power but with control.

  • I don't understand how this analogy has anything to do with my question.

  • in my opinion, pronation is important if there is some wind...the wind tend to hit the strings when swinging so the racket's approach to the ball is slow...resulting to a slow, low impact serve...swinging the ball like a hammer will provide power on the swing..negating any effect on wind on the strings...

  • Hi. Im also from Argentina.

For my work its hard to keep a day and hour for tennis lessons, so a "learn" playing with friends. When a serve i hit the ball with the racket almost diagonal with the net. The ball get some effect but lacks powers. Its a very "slow" shot and easy to return. I try to do this shot, but most of the time the ball end up to long. Any adavice on how to "re educate" my arm, or how to make my original serve more faster and stronger? Thx.

    (sorry for my inglish)

  • hard to make a recommendation w/out seeing your motion. i'd suggest you simplify everything and focus on the fundamentals of the shot. definitely takes time to get the technique down.

  • @FYB2007 is this "open the face from the racket" technique a reason to reduce air resistance?? And to have a more powerful serve?

  • u cant imagine how usefull is this video to me.... thanks from Argentine.

  • No problem. Glad to help!

  • This is by far the hardest step of the serve. Every time I execute the racket drop, fully push off my legs ready to strike the ball, the ball always hits the side of my racket and flies high and wide. I dont know whether its my ball toss or the fact that am not pronating fast enough. Rele hard skill, but i love the challange of learning it. By the way FYB, UR A GENIUS! Great coach. Come to London and be my Coach DAMMIT LOL

  • Haha thx =)

  • this is a really hard part for me, like i just cant get it! and this isnt top spin serve cuz when u hit the ball its just flat

  • waaaayy too much detail....some of this is just natural

  • i totally agree

  • False. For trained players this is "second nature."

  • False. For trained tennis players this is "second nature."

  • Aww, this part is the hardest and can take a life time to perfect. No beginner will get the timing down the first few hits. I recommend shadowing this motion half a dozen times and then hitting the tennis ball.

  • FYB

    i have a serious problem

you see, I used to use eastern grip for serving, so i never needed to pronate. Then, when I went to lessons, they told me i had to use continental, but they never told me how to use it. So, i know this sounds weird, but I actually started out in the continental grip and in the middle of my swing, I have an eastern grip.

Now i understand the use of pronation, but when I try, I get back to the eastern grip.

    Plz help!

p.s. i can pronate slowly now, but not quickly

  • do i need to pronate for both flat and kick serve?

  • nimmt man beim aufschlag vorhand oder rückhand oder universalgriff?

  • continental grip - google it

  • ha i have same racket

  • Wilsom [K]Factor Six one

  • yes

  • Why do you keep saying "pronate the wrist"? Pronation is a rotation of the forearm, not the wrist.

  • you can't pronate or suppinate without moving the hand

  • the best teacher

  • YOU'RE A REALLY GOOD TEACHER

  • Cheers Reali helps

  • very detailed and from every angle you have explained very well!!

    i am having a problem of serving, i 'll try this technique and i hope this will improve my serve;

  • just watched through the 7 steps. Thx for these !! Can't wait to get on the court and try out some modifications on my existing serve. You explain very well the different steps.

  • Have to be careful when saying 'pronate the wrist' - the wrist cannot pronate. Pronation occurs from the forearm even as the wrist turns outwards.

  • Try steroids.

  • hahaha!!!

  • i hope that's in Kmph

  • try working out or loosening your strings...

  • Marat Safin Rulezzz! =) вощем научился подавать=)

  • 내가볼땐 좀더 역학적으로 접근해야하지 않을까 싶은데..

  • i am serving without jumping. i have a problem with these. when you swing and pronate, how are you going to do a hi-five to the ball? you said that the party stance should be facing the side fence of the court? when and how are you going to turn your body towards the net when you are about to give a high-five? pls. answer thanks.

  • you rotate your body while pushing off the ground. your arm pronates naturally.

  • Should you grip the raquet tight when you serve?

  • No keep a loose grip. Obviously hold the racket tight enough so you don't drop it / throw it during the motion. But you want to be relaxed otherwise.

  • why can't we hold it tightly? Is it because of loss in power of the serve?

  • Because it becomes more robotic. The more fluid and loose your motion is, the more power you can potentially generate, with less effort and stress on the body as well.

And yes, it results in a huge loss of power and spin in the serve.

  • The hand grips the raquet sufficiently so that you have a firm contact point ~ but not so tight that your grip affects other muscles in your arm which should work in sequence. Muscles can contract and relax - if you are too tense then the muscles which should be relaxing could oppose the smooth accelerating motion which you are trying to achieve.

  • you're a really great teracher man my coach didn't teach me any of this but now i'll have to train

  • lol "high five the tennis ball" you are god! your stuff is really helping me learn 5*

  • isn't it suppose to be when your arm is in the arm, ur wrist is suppose to be straight??

  • er can you be a little more specific please? thx.

  • These are EASILY the best lessons (virtual or otherwise) that I have EVER seen. Amazing job!!!

  • hi5

  • Great lesson and good job.Gon on please with others shots.

  • Great lessons, my kick serve has got me from an average 3.5 player to a dominant 4.0. It also helps being a lefty myself, it annoys my opponents a lot.

  • I had 1year expensive lessons. Teatcher trying to avoid contact with other from the club affraid of losing money. I Payed 2h personal lessons They allways come up with guests(not my) to play with me(they are tired). That or just trow balls.I payed the payment at reception and some imigrant took me the money from hands and didn´t said thanks. That club will never get money from me again. They are allways looking to girls legs (pedofils) or talking to people or cellphone during my lessons.

  • Thank you so much !!

Your vids definitely will help me serve!!

    ps:

i laughed a lot when you said, "give the tennis ball a high five" !

  • yeah i did 2...great vid

  • clear as water explanations! Thank you very much! I am going to put it in practice right now!!! (Tenis in Barcelona)

  • nice to meet a fellow lefty

  • Lefty spin is killer!

  • Uhm.. I have a question... I'm a begginer but I wanna ask if how do you produce topspin in this kind of serve?

  • Is pronating bad for developing muscles?

  • I don't think so. Keep in mind I'm not a doctor. However, little kids are taught to pronate all the time so it's probably safe.

  • I understand the concepts presented, but my pronation timing is inconsistent. It seems like the racquet often contacts the ball at a different angle than before. How can I build regularity and predictability with my wrist and forearm?

I can't hold it too rigid; I've been told to keep a relaxed and flexible wrist! tips?

  • You can use an eastern backhand grip to serve as well... but you can use the same grip to hit different serves. Pronation is tough (btw -- it's the forearm and wrist moving as a piece... not just the wrist)... it takes time to learn! Keep at it!

  • Thank you for explaining the serve so well, very explicit. Keep on doing this.

  • I find the pronating the hardest

  • Thanks alot!!!This videos are the best for learning tennis stuff!!This helped alot for me!! Thanks again for the help!!:D

  • This provides an excellent complement to your other video with the super-slow-motion pictures. Your explain pronation with wonderful clarity and great footage. Thanks.

  • ent it quicker to say nice vid it helped?

  • thnx man :)

  • Very good, thanks so much for posting the different steps for a good serve! Every motion was very well-explained, this is certainly going to help me a lot. You can bet I'll watch it over again!!

  • 10/10.. GREAT JOB!

  • Thanks a lot FYB, your guys did really great job and help me a lot.

These video are really high quality stuff!!!

  • Thanks again for the help dude :) I gota work on this part also =p Also I was wondering if you could do some tutorials on how to slice and do dropshots, because I just can't seem to do it right =p. Thanks again :D

  • Nice!

  • This video helped me a lot

  • High five! :)

  • this is the only video to explain pronation well in a serve thanks man

  • Thanks man!!! really a very helpfull video, you explain very good, ;D

  • no prob :) glad we could help.
