JohnGrove, you cannot accept that the universe can oppose human logic (i.e. something from nothing; energy from empty space)? You are imposing rationality, a human invention, though the universe is a bit older than humans! Even if you say God created the universe, then you must contend that he/she/it, too, is (to whatever degree) beyond human logic. The universe is not bound to our intellectual impositions. I think the universe was formed by all that rivals our dualistic thinking.
I am reluctant to spend nearly an hour watching and listening to this video, mainly because I have seen so many of these origin stories of the universe by big physics types before that I fear not learning anything new, it's all been said before and brought us up to the edge of research.

Many will try to rule this out as "make believe" or "fairy tales," however, many of science's theories of the beginning of realty itself is not evidently proven as a solid fact.
Actually, it is religion itself which is a perfect example of different collections of nonsensical assumptions about nonexistent deities and made up events. Science, by definition and by practice, is the diametrical opposite of this.
...and when our math quits working, we make up shit about how we assume matter would act when it isn't even matter anymore, and if we pad that with more BS until we have a shit sandwich of theories, only then will we be able to trick the world that there is nobody smarter than us and never was, especially a Godlike being who is smarter than us.

There can be no science without methodological naturalism. That view literally is a consequence of the parsimony requirement of rational evaluation of the plausibility/quality of a hypothesis. Where you end up with a "science" acknowledging that there are supernatural creatures mucking about with nature is that no results of science can be trusted.

@TheLaunchingPad We might still want to do science for pragmatic reasons of course, even though it would just amount to a desperate hope that we could identify areas of reality that the supernatural didn't mess with too much for some reason. In reality, of course, the reason science works at all is precisely because there is no supernatural intervention and that nature is largely deterministic. It didn't have to be that way, but it's great for us that it is.

The Big Bang didn't need a cause for 2 reasons. Time, space, energy, matter, all the laws that govern our universe came into existence after The Big Bang. This means the law of cause and effect came into existence after the event, indicating that The Big Bang didn't need to follow a law that hadn't even come into existence yet before hand. Reason 2? Time didn't exist until The Big Bang, meaning there was no time for a cause or a creator to create.

They have finished their second all sky survey i think, but the reason we don't have the polarization yet is because they are in the process of removing the "junk" which is to say removing the galaxies and other noise in the field which isn't the CMB. Not quite. Science doesn't allow things to be proven positively. A theory is a hypothesis that has vast quantities of evidence supporting it. Everything is tentative. When new information is discovered, old theories may be modified or discarded altogether, so they are only as true as the evidence at hand allows.

You are imposing rationality, a human invention, though the universe is a bit older than humans! Even if you say God created the universe, then you must contend that he/she/it, too, is (to whatever degree) beyond human logic. The universe is not bound to our intellectual impositions. I think the universe was formed by all that rivals our dualistic thinking.

Science as a whole is the study, observation, understanding of the nature of existence in all planes of matter and life; therefore, science should always be open-minded to any possibilities to nature of existence. Even if means the potential existence of a sentient being or divine creator as God. Many will try to rule this out as "make believe" or "fairy tales," however, many of science's theories of the beginning of realty itself is not evidently proven as a solid fact.

There can be no science without methodological naturalism. That view literally is a consequence of the parsimony requirement of rational evaluation of the plausibility/quality of a hypothesis. Where you end up with a "science" acknowledging that there are supernatural creatures mucking about with nature is that no results of science can be trusted.

At that point, much of the motivation for doing science would vanish and be replaced by a huge "We can never predict the behavior of nature".

@TheLaunchingPad We might still want to do science for pragmatic reasons of course, even though it would just amount to a desperate hope that we could identify areas of reality that the supernatural didn't mess with too much for some reason. In reality, of course, the reason science works at all is precisely because there is no supernatural intervention and that nature is largely deterministic. It didn't have to be that way, but it's great for us that it is.

The Big Bang didn't need a cause for 2 reasons. Time, space, energy, matter, all the laws that govern our universe came into existence after The Big Bang. This means the law of cause and effect came into existence after the event, indicating that The Big Bang didn't need to follow a law that hadn't even come into existence yet before hand. Reason 2? Time didn't exist until The Big Bang, meaning there was no time for a cause or a creator to create.

@aqouby Actually, I do have a theory about this. I believe that the sun is being fed energy from somewhere else. It is comprised of electrical fields and plasma glowing as though it is dense but it is hollow just like those Tesla globes you buy at WalMart. The intensity of energy given to drive it is adequate only for Earth to have seasons which promote the production of new species and adaptation. The moon is also perfectly designed to reflect the sun during night. It is terra-formed.

They have finished their second all sky survey i think, but the reason we don't have the polarization yet is because they are in the process of removing the "junk" which is to say removing the galaxies and other noise in the field which isn't the CMB. Actually they have discovered a few new galaxies because of it. So no b-curl polarization yet (fingers crossed)

Not quite. Science doesn't allow things to be proven positively. A theory is a hypothesis that has vast quantities of evidence supporting it. Everything is tentative. When new information is discovered, old theories may be modified or discarded altogether, so they are only as true as the evidence at hand allows.

Now, the big bang DID happen, there's no controversy on that. what is being discussed is the 'before' or the 'how'.
