@isactucker Simple, because the Air Force investigation determined that the onboard computers had allready excuted their part of the flightcontrol program and had assumed the major command and control of the aircraft. THAT is what happens when you rely on far to many computers that rely on way too many sensors and electrical devices to handle the aircraft. It was well into a stall and far to close to the ground and drifting to portside into the grass. It was unrecoverable.

It doesn't cost 2.1 billion. That figure you hear thrown around is the amortized price, which is aircraft price + (R&D money divided by the number of aircraft produced). They didn't lose the R&D when this thing crashed, they only lost the aircraft.

If you're not crashing planes, you're not flying planes. It's not like they can just "pull over, get out and pop the hood". Can anyone explain the events we see in the footage? I saw the plane nose up sharply on lift off but quickly level out. No stall condition was visible even though the attitude was a bit high for a moment. The causal event appears to have begun after the plane achieved level flight. The plane appeared to be moving at a sufficient airspeed to maintain lift. What happened?
