  • @JukeboxHeartbreak91

actually, this tune was going to be on the new album that also contained "You Know You're Right". Pat Smear is playing guitar in the song with him, and Pat wasn't included as a member of Nirvana until after Unplugged. He later went on to be in the Foo Fighters for awhile. Whether Dave Grohl had anything to do with the track I don't know, but it was definitely out after Bleach.

  • absolutly fantastic one of nirvana's best!!!

  • this would've been the most beautifl song Kurt ever wrote!

  • just to great.

  • I wish there was a studio recording of this.

  • When I was first listening to this song, I thought "this song sucks", and then I listened to it again and today I'm listening to it again. It's a catchy fucking song all things considered. I like

  • the part taking to the bridge sounds like the end of the chorus from help :)

  • this song makes me want to cry.

  • i showed this song to one of my friends and now she likes nirvana

i think i deserve a thumbs up for that!

  • if i was woody guthrie id sue lol

  • With "You know you're right", "Do re mi" and the others to come imagine how great of an album it would of been.

  • @lakesidefan opinion, Bambi Kill Slaughter, and Marigold.... That would have been awesome!

  • I seriously want this song played at my funeral.

  • You can't understand what he's singing, but you can feel the emotion from Cobain's voice. He was such a genius.

  • do you guys think there are 1 or 2 guitar players here?

  • @neurochris probably one

  • @neurochris two, or one recorded twice

  • @neurochris two, or maybe one recorded twice

  • @neurochris 3 people Bass, Regular, and drums.

  • @Wilsonboy0528 I'm under the impression that this is just Kurt and his guitar.

  • @neurochris oh i thought you meant just in nirvana yeah this is just Kurt sorry.

  • @Wilsonboy0528 no problem.

  • i think he is saying got a gun to bleed me on the last verse not go to gut to bleed me. its a very haunting song if u read the lyrics while listeining to it.

  • all can say do re-e MI-i-i-i

  • there is an electric version of this song i cant fucking find it can anybody tell me where it is please

  • what is youtube

  • @The1989KID really?

  • Fuuucking great song.

  • 3:32 "a chase for his honor" don't rape him

  • it's don't rape me, mixed in with do re mi to do what kurt always did with lyrics, anyone saying otherwise is a fool.

  • the best song ever!!!!!!! XD

  • The guitar player from REM has Kurts guitar in the video clip from 'what's the frequency, Kenneth'

  • As crazy as it sounds...I can really hear some REM in this.

I know he wanted to do something with the guy from REM, too.

  • i see what you mean

  • he knew the dude from REM and they were from the same ara im pretty sure. there was definately asome kinda connection though between the two bands.

  • @theriftable He didnt just knew the "dude" from REM, he is Frances Cobain's godfather.

  • whatever.

  • @ViiRushiiV Haha I was going to put that exact same thing 'till I looked below and saw yours. People these days right bro?

  • whats it matter

  • yes what she say ?

  • sounds like "that was incredible "

  • "that was incredible dude"

  • what does courtney say at the end?

  • she says ]

that's awesome or somthing like that

  • it is not obvious trojanen89...maybe he was sayin '' duuhhreeeaaaaaam'' jajajajaja... i bet you didnt understand the whole song's lyrics before you saw this video...well it seems it is that way cuz you watched the video anyways..

  • Who's talking in the background at the very end after Kurt is done with the song. It sounds like a female voice. If this song was recorded when some say it was it couldn't be courtney could it?

  • It's Courtney Love

  • Kurt Cobain had plans in 1994 to take a break from Nirvana for a few years to make an album with Kim Black from the Pixie's.

Surfer Rosa being one of Cobain's most influencial albums of all time, he quote's

"Iv'e always thought i should be in that band.. or atleast a Pixies cover band"

That would have been such a fucking good album..

  • doesnt that bitch courtney ever stfu? lol.

  • yell or wail, and if i sigh...durrr

  • Its pretty obvious that he sings "Do Re Mi" if you know just a little tiny bit about music you know :P but he might have sang "Dont rape me" at some spots but most of the time its Do Re Mi

  • read my comment of the video

  • Here's what I think the lyrics are...

If I may and if I might

    let me down weeping

And if I say what it's like

    I might be dreaming

If I may what is right

some make time to see me, heal

    Those years in his bonett

    and phrase from his pocket

    And chains holding the wind

  • So, are you guys sayin the lyrics daries posted on the description are wrong? Cause they seem pretty accurate. Either way, cool song.

  • Pretty much everyone will probably hear something different listening to the song but what I posted is what I hear. and I could be wrong.

  • life long dream Dream X4 And if I may and if I might Wake me up and see me And if I do, and if I like Find me how they see me And if I may cold as ice I might have to see me, heal The rays in his socket Phrase from his moment The chase from his socket, I will need Dream X2 Don't rape me X4
  • Wish me good And wish me light Find me how the seas On their way Just be quiet Follow hate, read me Yellow whale, and If I sight Sink me how, the TV If I may, and if I might Go to gut, to bleed me And praise in his pocket The praise from his warm lip The chase from his owner, in my tea Dream X3 Don't rape me X5"
  • Yellow whale?...wow, its yell or wail.

  • Yea I know after I posted the lyrics I was reconsidering what he was saying and now I do believe it is "Yell a wail" not exactly what you have but I'm pretty sure its not yellow whale now.

  • hehe yeah

    i just dont know what

    "yellow whale"

    would be sooo yeah

  • lol its an amazing song either way though.

  • yeeeeeep it is

  • it might be "yell away 'n if i sigh"

  • Thats true it could be.

  • its actually actually called dough ray and me

  • Comment removed

  • Dude, the lyrics are very wrong! Yellow whale??? He's saying "Yell or wail."

  • Best Nirvana song ever :D Beautiful.

  • i love this song.. first time i heard it too lol but honestly, that almost toped lithium. it kinda sounds like hes saying "dont rape me". i really hope Kurts music will live on forever, it certanly will for me. thanks. oh, and if u have the time could u check my vids? thank you very much

  • he is saying 'dont rape me'.

  • nicely put. nobody needs to put there problems on youtube cause it will cause an argument. plus who cares anyway. I am also 17. so fuck off to who disagrees.

  • Comment removed

  • SUB 4 SPANK!!!

  • He should have wrote more songs like this.

  • love this song

  • this is such a gr8 song

  • Kurdt was a great actor.. he played his life and everyone exceptionally good. This is my favorite song of all time.. thanks again nirvanA.

  • Actor?

  • i hate all of you

  • Me too

  • wow very few songs in this world make me feel so emotional, all of them by nirvana and this is one of them

    simply beautiful

  • Wasn't "Me And My IV" the working title for this toward the very end? Someone found a napkin or paper with words written on it and the title at the top. Remember reading that back in the late 90's.

  • yes but he didn't right this song

  • RIP KURT 15 YEARS TODAY

  • I FUCKEN HATE THE 15TH YEAR.

the year sucks....the age sucks ...and most likey you hate what happened when you were at that age or you cant remember half of it. suicide BLOWS. encouragement for all.

  • To me it is sad :(

  • this is a good song, and the wierd lyrics and voice sound exacly like cobain, altho im very confused if he just says do re mi or dont rape me at the end...if its dont rape me, its kinda of a wierd ending...

  • It's "don't rape me at the end", or at least that's always how I interpreted it. I guess it means sort of an emotional rape, he felt shadowed by the paparazzi, his stomach ailment, his parents' divorce, etc.

  • this doesnt sound like them

  • gorgeous as hell, i love this song.

kurt's voice is heaven here---this song just makes me feel tingly all over

  • KnightsFootball46 grohl wrote marigold

  • Sweet melody. It's really.

  • "with the lights out" contains the best of nirvana stuff. Raw, honest and talented.

  • i think dave grohl had a major part in the making of this song

  • Why do you think that?

  • I dont know i just get a dave grohl kinda feeling like i dont think kurt would make it so, not hard like as a guitar player who plays a lot of nirvana i can say its harder than other songs he made

  • as far as i know grohl never made a nirvana song. the only thing he ever did was shred on the drums. It was all cobain

  • that is wrong grohl had a lot to do with songs just not many

  • Grohl was responsible for co-writing "Scentless Apprentice" and for writing "Marigold", that is it. "Do Re Mi" was recorded towards the end of Kurt's life, most likely after he had already decided to disband Nirvana.

  • of course he did.

marigold is also made by dave oô

i think thats right its not just written by kurt

it sounds like one of daves songs thats right

  • @klugaa sorry bro but he didnt. this was before bleach came out so if anyone was involved it would be aaron, grohl didn't join until well well after bleach,

  • one of my favorites nirvana songs, its been so long... soon another band w the right sound will come along it'll be cool

  • This song proves that Cobain was a genius.

  • One of my favorite songs Cobain ever made, and it's not even one he put much work into. Personally, I feel if Cobain had not died, that this song represents the sound that he would have gone into; away from the dark and heavy In Utero and into more melodic work inspired by his hero, Lennon. Just my idea, atleast. Beautiful little song.

  • I always got the sense from Kurt's performances that he was afraid to sing. To really just sing. It was like he'd make his voice artificially gravelly & scratchy & screamy... This song is just him singing. Actually singing.

I'm not going to pretend that I would like this song if it were not Kurt, but I think it sounds good.

  • yea i think kurt really did change his voice to sound sloppy on purpose, he loved doing that and also changing the lyrics to the song when playing them live! he loved fucking it up on purpose, you can just tell!

  • true that, just listen to spank thru

  • thi song is beautiful

  • damn i love how he uses the power cords and the way he plays it

  • I love this song, when ever I'm sad it always cheers me up

  • Yeah, it's happy, but in sort of a sad way.

    It's really powerful.

  • I heard there are a couple different versions of this song, is that true?

  • yeah i got two of them

  • Would you mind sharing them?

  • ok i ma up load them with some other rare stuff

  • i have the cd with this song in it.

    i love it!

  • what cd is it?

  • sliver: the best of the box

  • sliver the best of the box

  • in "with the lights out CD III" too have

    =D

  • I have "with the lights out" where's the other one?

  • Sliver: Best of the box :)

  • great video for the song!

  • who wrote this song?

  • this is one of kurt's songs that he recorded at home that wasnt taken to studio yet

  • +1 that's true

  • how does this stuff get on youtube, lol

(dont get me wrong i love nirvana_

  • brilliant

  • lyrics?

  • This has got to be my number 1 on my top 10 list of Nirvana songs :]

  • 1st time hearin this and it makes me want to hear Rape Me.

  • sounds beatles ish,

    awesome though

  • Firstlly Kurt loved the Beatles an secondly

Damb right its awesome lol..He was only 15 when made this song..The Beatles were a small influence 2 him then but always had his own thing that no one to this day could an never will get! or b able to carry off!

  • he was 15 when he wrote this? thats so cool

  • This song was written in 1994 - You should try to keep your facts straight.

  • Best music i've heard for the last 18 years. I'm 27 now and this still by far is the best.

  • Such a nice tune.If anyone notices or cares ;at the end of the chourus is partially the beatles riff of"And your Bird can sing"check it out all you YouTuberz

  • suchh a good song,

this would have been amazing if it was recorded well and relased on a album

  • I find the cheap recording on the boombox somehow more endearing than I would think a studio recording would be. It's just the man, his music, and his magic.

  • Right on, my man.

  • But who knows. He always had a way of surprising us once he got a song into the studio. I do like the demo version of old age more than the studio one, though.

  • i just heard the demo of old age and i liked it a lot. it reminded me of this.. and this has been a fav of mine for like a year since i first heard it. i would def like to hear a studio version of old age. mind linking it?

  • fucken love nirvanaRIP Kurt & fck that bitch courtney <3

  • no

    its a solo acoustic

  • So is it Smear on the guitar and Kurt singing?

  • I think Pat may be playing in the background actually, but I think they're both playing their guitars.

  • no this is just kurt in his house, its about 2 or 3 weeks before he killed himself. Its thought to be the last song he made

  • Okay, I just did a little research and you're right. This is apparently the earliest recording of the song, and this one was recorded on a boombox alone. The version with Pat Smear was apparently the one he recorded only weeks from the suicide. It, and a version done between those two versions (with Pat Smear and Eric Erlandson) have never surfaced (though the electric version found on some websites may be the middle version mentioned).

  • this is a great song!

    NIRVANA ALL THE WAY!!

  • i remember the 1st time i heard this. i bought the box set and had heard and loved every song on it many times. this made me well up. Nirvana could of only got better if this was the direction Kurt was taking them in.

Words cannot describe how touching this song is.

  • imagine what the next album would've been like if kurt hadn't died, amazing

  • imagine what the next album would've been like if hadn't died, amazing

  • This is one of my favorite songs by Kurt. Which is why it's been my featured video forever...

I love you, Kurt. I can't wait to meet you there...

  • A another amazing song by KURT COBAIN!
