I don't see why the guy made a big deal, I admit it is a sad song and nearly made me cry. However, I probably would've made it clear that she was mine and told him to get out or tried to assess the situation instead of just leaving and never coming back. Even he could've just gone and drank for one night and came back to talk rationally once he was sobre and they had sometime to think of the events occured and what they're going to do.
