Better voice acting, better storytelling, better level and enemy design, modernized combat, and NO NERO. I think that makes up for Dante's new look. (Plus, he looks like his old self when he Devil's Triggers, so no harm, no foul.)

If indeed the canon order of the series is DMC3, 1, 4, 2 then I have developed an interesting theory. Since Dante is seen getting lost in Hell in DMC2 and never confirmed that he got out since the final motorbike cutscene wasn't showing him, might as well have been Lady/Trish, then what if Limbo City is actually an illusion plain of Hell and Dante is lost in it, undertaking illusions about his age and powers, and as seen in another trailer, getting helped by lost, tormented souls in the plain?

@qu3ter Not really. What made DMC so popular in the first place(DMC1) was because the game itself was really fun to play. And Dante was a part of that. Then as the game progressed we got to see more of Dante's personality. Thats how he became so popular. Too be honest I dont see whats the big deal about Dante anymore. He is still receiving tweaks and in the end he will probably get his white hair. What I am worried about is that if so many people buy this. I wont be able to see a DMC5.

Honestly, this game, to me, doesn't look bad. At least gameply wise. I just dislike the fact they gave it the DMC name, without even giving the effort of giving the main character a name that fitted the previous main character of the DMC series better. For me, this game could go either way. Could be good, for all we know. Capcom has done some wonders with video games in the past. I will have faith and hope for the best, at least.

What I think of Ninja Theory's DMC is that it's a reboot. It's not supposed to have absolutely everything in common with the original, only the most important details. Comics work the same way.

It only needs the important details, and the specifics can be filled in later, the same way comics have different iterations where Superman starts fighting crime when he's an adult, but in another series he's Superboy before being Superman; where Peter Parker got bit by a radioactive spider during high school, but then it's during college; where Bruce Banner became the hulk by surviving a bomb, but then it was by experimenting on himself.
Ninja Theory says that this is a reboot, and reboots being a different iteration of familiar things, they are introducing a NEW version of how Dante gets his powers, aside from his being stabbed by his own sword as shown by DMC3, or simply getting his memories back as shown in the novel before that.
The important details in Dante's origin are that he's half demon, his mother is dead, and his brother's whereabouts are unknown but he's also presumed dead. They didn't change that.
@superbrainification What exactly is the problem? There is none. This is a reboot. They're already establishing it as a /parallel universe/ to the one we know. And the one we know actually did the equivalent of this in a terrible way called retconning, making huge changes to Dante's origin story or shifting it across the timeline, and having the balls to say "this all happened, or maybe it didn't". Reboots are clean slates. Retcons mess things up.

Exactly! People gets all confuse with the time line of the game, that's why DMC 4 ruined the time line. It was a good game but it was the reason they made a reboot. For me It was a good idea they rebooted and the game looks very cool but still with the classic action of all Dmc titles with improvements and better then ever.

Or continue where Dante left off with his motorcycle going to hell? Honestly, this game, to me, doesn't look bad. At least gameply wise. I just dislike the fact they gave it the DMC name, without even giving the effort of giving the main character a name that fitted the previous main character of the DMC series better. For me, this game could go either way. Could be good, for all we know. Capcom has done some wonders with video games in the past. I will have faith and hope for the best, at least.

what is up with close-minded people saying he looks emo, IMO Dante had the most "traditional emo" look in DMC3. Its tastless to judge a characters personality on the hairstyle.
anyways, l think this game looks amazing, the "dark city" influence, the gameplay, that kick ass art direction. It already looks like it has more imagination and attitude than that bland DMC4.

Not happy with new November look. first reboot Dante looked MUCH better. Was looking forward to the street punk "you all can kiss my ass" lookg. The voice was to die for.his jacket shorter, to the newer design. Now, typical long coat (could have added in later games as he progressed. Is it just me or does this redesign look more like some college frat boy? Oo and the voice isn't as rough and aggressive.Now sounds boyish.I'm not sure how much I want to play it now, looking at that ):

I've come to accept dante's new look. Given the visual style of the game, classic dante would look weird. But when I read that dante was now an angel/demon? WTF? And he's a smoker? What happened to him being "too cool to smoke"? Well, my gripes aside, the game does look like it could be fun.

@superbrainification Tony Redgrave was in the novel taking place right before DMC1, where Dante is Tony because of repressed memories. DMC3 and its manga came out as a prequel taking place ten and eleven years before DMC1, and Dante was Dante straight up without a different name or repressed memories, superseding the novel and making it NOT CANON. Tony Redgrave doesn't exist, period. I love how people only pick and choose random shit from the series to justify it 'has a canon story'.

Yes I am telling you it's not canon because it ISN'T. In the novel, Dante is Tony, and doesn't know he is Dante or that he has a brother. DMC3 is BEFORE the novel and first game, where Dante knows he is Dante and that he has a brother. Tony Redgrave does not exist because DMC3 makes the novel not canon.

@superbrainification They don't. Dante awakens to his demonic origin already in the novel. By the end, he knows he's the son of Sparda and he's half demon. Then DMC3 happens and he's denying he's a demon and that Sparda is his father. They don't make sense existing in the same timeline.
What I think of Ninja Theory's DMC is that it's a reboot. It's not supposed to have absolutely everything in common with the original, only the most important details. Comics work the same way.

It only needs the important details, and the specifics can be filled in later, the same way comics have different iterations where Superman starts fighting crime when he's an adult, but in another series he's Superboy before being Superman; where Peter Parker got bit by a radioactive spider during high school, but then it's during college; where Bruce Banner became the hulk by surviving a bomb, but then it was by experimenting on himself.

Ninja Theory says that this is a reboot, and reboots being a different iteration of familiar things, they are introducing a NEW version of how Dante gets his powers, aside from his being stabbed by his own sword as shown by DMC3, or simply getting his memories back as shown in the novel before that.
The important details in Dante's origin are that he's half demon, his mother is dead, and his brother's whereabouts are unknown but he's also presumed dead. They didn't change that.

@superbrainification What exactly is the problem? There is none. This is a reboot. They're already establishing it as a /parallel universe/ to the one we know. And the one we know actually did the equivalent of this in a terrible way called retconning, making huge changes to Dante's origin story or shifting it across the timeline, and having the balls to say "this all happened, or maybe it didn't". Reboots are clean slates. Retcons mess things up.

Neither Dante is "more real" than the other in that instance because they're BOTH Dante in different forms. You're not getting the comparison here: this is the equivalent of invalidating Ultimate Universe Spider-Man just because he's not the Earth-616 Spider-Man. They're both the same dude, and you should stop griping about 'real timelines' because Capcom gives no shits about it.
