i want to play a disklavier for a concert with midi accompaniment. - but it only has a floppy disk and they don't really sell floppy disk any more. My laptop does not have a floppy disk drive. However I have midi files on my laptop. I examined the disklavier very carefully it does not have a place to stick the USB - so what do i do to get my midi files in the computer for a performance ?
Yeah... great fun. in a while acoustic piano's (instruments) don't excist anymore.
Nice toys... but let it be an acoustic piano, don't make some computer of it.
Why the hell do wee need this thing, if I want to hear a piece from a far-away person, I'll ask her to have a video conversation on msn/messenger or something.
hack it to do what? it's a piano all the os can do is connect to another piano, tell the piano what keys to press, record a song and allow midi and internet connectivity.
Exactly DaveyYzermans point, the piano has a WiFI connection that is allways active, and since is based on a linux OS, it can be hacked verry easy, so if that piano is on a concert and got hacked all that the pianist can do is sit and watch or turn off the piano.
Another critical issue - Generally, pianist adjust ( and should adjust ) his playing according to to each particular instrument he plays. Some instruments are sharper, other softer etc.
So the question is how Yamaha guarantees accurate playback, having in mind each instrument has his own character (and technician's adjustments ) ?
How do they avoid the echo effect. More specific, how do they ignore the sound coming from the microphone versus the MIDI signal? I see they are in audio connection as well...
@banatzianou: They've developed a microphone cancellation feature where the microphones automatically mute themselves when someone is playing on the pianos.
Please let us find out how to convince your family (the wife!) that you must postpone the purchase of the family car, the house payments and scrap the college funds for the kids so that you can spend a minimum of $50 000 for one of those.
This video was taken at NAMM (January) 2004. The Disklavier Mark 4 is sold at Yamaha Piano dealerships yamaha DOT com ... The program (to be a standard component of Disklavier IV) is still being tested and will be available for consumers within months. It's as amazing as it looks and sounds.
What about viruses and spam...what if it just starts playing in the middle of the night. Na, I'm just kidding...that thing is awesome. Yamaha makes great products, no matter what they are.

I am the lucky guy who has had a chance to work with the Remote Lesson feature and to present it in the video.
Yamaha has not announced a release date, but I am hoping that this feature of the Mark IV Disklavier will be available within a year.
