These people wanted the publicity. I don't have much respect for them. What they did isn't cute or funny or daring, whatever...It was stupid & I hope that they suffer some serious consequences. If they were my friends, I'd distance myself from them. If we must take a lesson from this though, it's pretty obvious that security needs tightening. But anyway, they should be punished not given publicity...Stupid Asses!

Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz were only the latest in the ongoing (since, ~roughly~ the fall of Saigon), downsizing and marginalization of the US military (and outsourcing & privatizing DoD civilian support), that left Bush I , Clinton, and Bush II with diminished resources to address terrorism... or whatever "insurgency" might arise.
Obama will need several more terms to effectively address the damage left by decades of government by corporate lobbyists.

It has been pointed out that they could have been carrying anthrax. There were also real knives on all of the tables. Personally, I don't think they should have to do any "time" for their stunt, but I'd sure as hell load them down with a TON of community service.

Excellent comment on the whole situation.
One point I would like to bring your attention if you don't mind. You remember how secret service use to be under control of the Treasury department? Well, They are now under control of Department of Homeland security. Perhaps that will explain a lot about the "slip up".

So the question becomes 1- has the budget for what they do when protecting the President change. 2- Remember the primary job of the SS was to go after counterfiters and such. So who is taking care of that job now? Could this be why we are seeing the Economic situation we are in or am I just reaching ; )
