  • BRITISH GIBRALTAR, This is my homeland. PROUD to be a Gibraltarian.

Our homeland is not for sale. We are proud people and we shall NEVER surrender.

  • Gibraltar is Spanish.

  • @Sadanreturns Gibraltar is Gibraltar, they may fly British flags along with their own but they are self sufficient politically and economically. In practise they are not a colony of Britain and I think the title of overseas territory should be removed as it means nothing really. In reality it doesn't belong to Spain or Britain.

  • @justtakeiteasy Erm it clearly is lol

  • If I lived in Gibraltar I'd paint a Union Jack on my arse, walk to the border every morning, turn my back towards spain and drop my trousers.

I'm not normally like this, but seeing as there's so much anti-english sentiment from spaniards these days...

  • CONT-- , and some cheeky Spaniards said "Oh no, never, the people of Bristol (now descendants of the settlers established there by Spain in 1704 and newcomers alike) have the right to decide their future, and they want to remain Spanish".

    Nice, uh?

Ahhhhhh, the Ulster Plantations, the Malvinas, Gibraltar, etc... same trend. What a lovely people the English are!!. Always caring about rights, reason and civilized manners. Keep on singing this charming song.

  • @Sky1green Maybe Bristol was not the best place to choose in this alternate universe, considering its population is about ten times bigger than gibraltar and its right in the middle of south west England rather than on the edge of a peninsula(maybe Penzance would have been a better option) Anyway overlooking that Bristol would now be a nation in its own right not truly belonging to Spain or Britain. English? the overseas territories refer to Britain collectively my friend.

  • What about and alternate universe history?

In 1704 the Spanish took Bristol and after kicking out the local population from their homes, built a fortress and repopulate it with a melting pot of people all them loyal to Spain. From time to time they had to endure sieges and harrasment by the English, who wanted to recapture Bristol. After 300 years, the English tried to recover it peacefully, "C'mon you Spaniards, we are friends now and you know this is part of England, give it back to us".

  • This place is just the greatest! Britain but even better! I loved my time on The Rock, such a beautiful place and really perfect. Gibraltarians should be able to choose whatever they wish to happen for themselves. Britain should be proud to have Gibraltar as a British overseas territory, not trying to hand it over to Spain. The people of Gibraltar should be respected by the British government.

  • @Ifrit1602 completely agrees, i lived there for over a year and visit my friends there at least twice a year and usually a lot more. Gibraltarians are a wonderful people, it's their country so they choose who and what they want to be.

  • True... our pride will rise greater than you could possibly imagine.. There are good and bad in every in culture. What will make us survive and move beyond the standard is our method of being diplomatic, understanding and empathetic to the cause which most follow. Power and strength is is shown beyond bullying and provocation.. only in understanding and rising greater than the pathetic provocateurs or wars and conflict - only peace is the solution..

  • Very True. Understanding each others situation is crucial and respecting each others convictions is paramount in this day and age. Bulling has no place in a modern society........democracy and human rights must prevail. That is the reason we lost so many good men and women in the past wars..!

Its been interesting chatting to you and I hope you have at least understood the point of view of a small insignificant few(Gibraltar).

Wish you well and invite u to visit a piece of Britain in the Med!

  • Look what good both sides keeping up the hard line in Northern Ireland did. Yes, I agree with you about Ceuta & Melilla. Morocco is taking that up with Spain. Yes, I enjoy Ibiza thank you. Nice place to be. Better than the Costa del Sol, in my opinion. Was Portugal taken by force from Spain? Please, tell me.. Anyway, I end this exchange of opinions by wishing you well, peace and prosperity. I hope that Spain and Gibraltar can really come to en equally beneficial agreement and live in harmony

  • I too would like to wish you well &prosperity in your new home in Ibiza, I have heard incredibly bad stories from friends who have been there about binge drinking, assaults, rapes to british girls ,drugs in bars etc etc but I will reserve my opiniion until i actually see it and visit Ibiza.

we hope and pray that a democratic and human solution can be found in the near future based on modern times and not in treaties made by past dictators/king who looked after their own self and not the people.

  • There are many more incidents of this type occur constantly. On the radio I have heard of several cases where British people wanting to set up residence in Gibraltar were treated with racism by the residents!! When I visited there was proud that 'Mother England' retains her colonial heritage through choice of the residents. But then it's more sinister than that, isn't it? My point is, let's be friends with Spain. Negotiate a little. This issue will never go away. Spain should also pipe down too

  • British people in Gibraltar after a few years become more gibraltarian than us gibraltarians! They are more than welcomed in Gibraltar and live a life among friends.I am a friend of spain but i am not a friend of their policy towards gibraltar.sorry! Its about time u said something positive and advise spain tp pipe down..........who knows we might even convert u back into english!!!

  • You seem to me to be the kind of person that wants to stir up trouble with your immediate neighbours. Remember, Gibraltar was Spanish Territory at one point. You have the right to vote democratically and legally, what sovereignty you want to be. I not the only Englishman by a farshot that has to take shit from the Spanish because of Gibraltar. 2 people I knew got beaten up after crossing the boarder towards McDonalds by Spaniards. Car windows have been smashed when people have visited Gibraltar

  • On the contrary I am a pacifist, but not stupid! Gibraltar belonged to spain for a reasonable short spell..it was under arab control for a much longer ..so if anything we should be arab.Anyway spain did not exsist as we know it today, anf there were many regions and many kings as u should know.

Nobody has taken more shit from spain than us....u dont know what it is to be under constant sieges.we do ! we have gone thru hell..!

please tell your friend to use Macdonalds in Gib. its safer!

  • By the way, you'll find that most Brits leave the UK in search of a better climate. Some even search for diversity and new lifestyles. The Gibraltarians appear to have some disregard for the UK and the people I heard a number of times. So, why fly the flag so proudly? So we have to take the shit in your name? Try pay a few taxes to the UK then we can revise the true identity.. Or perhaps the people of Gibraltar should routinely speak ENGLISH on a daily basis. That would make you more convincing!

  • I wish every brit all the best in looking for a better climate and diversity...we have many brits here and they have all formed part of a unified society which is called Gibraltar.I think you are only talking from hearsay as by the looks of it you have never bothered to come around here and listed to us gibraltarians and the spanish people from acros the border in spain about what the real story is.We treat UK people as our own!! by the way why should we pay taxes in UK....we dont live there..!

  • By the way we speak whichever way we want...we have the advantage of being bi-lingual naturally, and as this is a democracy we can do so!!By the way our kids also learn two other languages in school..............

It seems the only Englishman that is taking shit in spain in our name is you so maybe we might give you a knighthood for defending Great Britain....or make sure you never go back since who wants someone with no convictions!! I recommend you practise ''que viva espana!! ''suits u!

  • Allowing the Spanish Military to come in to the base, as a Nato member, would be a start. Start better cooperation and a crackdown on people, drug and Tobacco smuggling. Allow the authorities to scrutinise the finances of with transparency. It's true that people have the right to vote for their own determination. Why not be like Andorra, independent? In the end, more openness is needed and recognition of a land which is part of the Iberian peninsular. Not brandishing a UK flag to stir up tension

  • Do you really think you know what you are talking about!!!!Dont you know that the spanish descriminate your OWN BRITISH nato forces!

As for transparency...well cant comment...call the foreign office and get informed and dont listen to TVE.(Spanish state channel)

And why not be like Andorra?,,,ask your spanish friends!!!

Portugal is part of the Iberian peninsular....should they also be spanish!!!

Please get informed otherwise enjoy your stay in Ibiza....they must love u there.Have a nice stay

  • I think you'll find more English been spoken, more Union Jacks being flown in Benalmadena. Why does Britain need a colony in Spain now, anyway? So that the residents can get way without paying taxes and the Moroccans can smuggle drugs into a poorly defended enclave. Come on. Let's be realistic now.. If we are really EU nations, we need to rid these borders and have full cooperation. Not a cause for argument and continual justification for poor relations. Colonies in far lands, yes. In the EU no!

  • I think you have the stick by the wrong end!

Now its not if Britain needs a colony in Spain or not.Now its a question of why should we Gibraltarians be forced to become Spanish against our wishes to satisfy Spain. We have been British since 1704 and I am sure that changing your citizenship against your will is, and I hope you agree against our human rights! I am glad you now live and enjoy life in Spain ,do u honestly think Spain needs Gibraltar or is it to satisfy their still undemocratic pride

  • by the way most of the drugs that come from morocco to this area lands in neighbouring Spain as our coastline is very small and very well protected by our Police & Navy. And if we pay little taxes its only because we are a hard working community and our government knows how to manage the country.........if you want we can arrange to manage U.K. for you that way most Brits wount have to leave England to live in Spain!....u might be able to go back!!!

  • That is the beauty of having the freedom of having a British passport. We can live and work without any restrictions in the EU or go back to the UK. My point is, which you seem to miss, why cause aggravation between former enemies who are now at peace. Gibraltarians can be Moroccan for all we care. Why rub it in the face of the Spanish? How would the UK feel if Southampton was a Spanish enclave? Not very happy I would imagine. Even if it was won in a war 300 years ago.

  • I also have a British passport..i have english/northern ireland roots but im Gibratarian first.like the scots feel..and the northern irish feel. Im not ENGLISH.

The only persons that are aggrevated are the right wing spanish, because the present spanish government is doing everything possible to come to terms with the problem, so please get in touch with them and tell them not to get stirred up..because we certainly are not!

please contact morocco and find out how they feel about ceuta/melilla

  • I was under the impression that Ceuta & Melilla have been a part of Spain ever since the country's inception, way before Morocco ever existed as a sovereign nation. I've been told that these two Spanish outlets are classed as "transcontinental territories" in the same manner as what Istanbul is to Turkey etc. is this correct?

  • Haha. I love the Spanish - great culture, great architecture, good heart. But they look like jealous kids about Gib - self determination, dear, self determination. Britain can't get out even if it wanted to.

  • ¡¡¡Asi se habla hombre!!!

  • Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. When is Spain going to give Ceuta back to Morocco? You're just as bad España!

  • viva la British gibraltar always

  • lets all laugh at spain

    for thinking gibraltar is spainish

    WWAAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHA

dont get me wrong i love spain but some of them just dont let go :/

  • Tienes Rason hermano Espanol.

  • Gibraltar is GIBRALTAN!!!! Not spanish, not british! a seperate colony, they even have their very own language... llanito! The dispute will never be settled ever. Cant wait to move there!

¿Me regala a mi algo España? ¡No! pues in this case que le den, yo soy español,

Yeah!

  • wuenkuesko A USTEDES LE PERTENECE TODO,NUNCA SERA ESPANOL,FORZA GIBRALTAR!.

  • well seeing as gibralter is british and was given the people of gibralter are free to the right of self determination regardless of who they belong to

    Gracias a Dios!

¿verdad?

  • lets hope this great island stays british,"are you listening gordon brown?

  • Gibraltar is not island ignorant old-fashioned imperialist.

  • It´s just a Spanish peninsula.

  • neither is it a Spanish peninsula its a an Isthmus. the Spanish part is immaterial it is still a British overseas territory . but i see we all have a lot of time on our hands don't we iker4

  • Amen

  • forever British
