  • I also make sure the hand is flat. Wetting the hand with water is a very good idea.

  • I do this as a demo with my students but we take two safety precautions just in case- 1) no bubbles under or between the fingers because when the heat rises we don't want it rising through the hand and 2) wet the hand with water first and let water's high specific heat capacity help resists the heat as well.
