I like this movie and it's not that bad that everyone else saids, but those viewers hate that movie. I know, but the movie gets amazing, but for me it's good and decent!
The scene of him setting down to pee - hilarious! Shows the true - ultimate goal - of virtually every American wife: The eventual emasculation of their husband! LMAO!
I love this movie. When I first saw it back when I was 20, I thought it was really boring. But now that I'm 29, I love it and I can relate to it. I guess that just comes with getting older.
@cavegoat13 Glad you re-discovered this movie. I saw it in Taiwan in 2003. There was only 1 other person in the theater, as it was like a Tuesday afternoon. I watch the DVD everytime I have an extra day off.
I think lousy marketing was really to blame for the "under rated" statue of the film. It was marketed as a zany comedy when it isn't until Kathy Bates comes in that the film lightens up a bit at around the two-thirds mark. The rest of the film is rather heavy and will probably be far too depressing for the many people out there living in a similar "silent protest" manner.
I've known countless men/women (but mostly men) who end up like this. They have no constructive activities during their lives, so when they retire they have nothing to do.

Great movie! The writing and the acting in the movie were terrific. It was shocking to see Jack Nicholson play such a subdued character.

@TheOptimistPrime Because they're all living it. They're looking at their own life and thinking, "what was this about? It's boring and normal".

I have wondered what the name of this film was since I was 7.
I loved this movie, but I only got to see it once. I got to eat home-made subs, and watch it.
Eight years later, I've finally rediscovered the title. This is truly a fantastic day ^_^
