  • retro gold!

  • it is funny how thing such as channle theme music brings back memories (:

  • this sounds bring back memories, it meant that the nasty shows was coming on, so we would turn the volume down so the grown folks wouldnt hear that we was watching it,

  • @TheFrances70 I thought I was the only one that did that. LOL.

  • HBO sucks now! So does Showtime!

  • @breanntheartist1989 The whole TV Cable Networks sucks!!!

  • @breanntheartist1989 I totally agree. Charter cable had a free Showtime preview weekend, three weeks ago. All of their shows sucked.

  • Before there was douchebags with After Effects...

  • @starsweet4....great comment...couldnt have said it better.....

  • whenever i heard this it meant it was time for bed!

  • LOVE how it starts. That beat is so heavy. My favorite was the '87 one, but I guess I didn't know how cool this one was until my ears have matured. Never thought I'd see this, again! I want to find one that said, "The following movie is rated R." Don't know, sounded like I wasn't supposed to watch it and I liked it. The voice scared me at times. :p

I was surprised at the number of people who watched this in my generation, as kids.

Don't listen to it too much, or you'll ruin it!

  • Does anybody know what's the name of the movie company on whose logo(intro or outro) the man flies with a bicycle ???

    Please!!

  • @CrniGujo The intro with the bicycle was Amblin.

    Happy yet? :p

  • during this time i was 5 years old and wasn't allowed to watch hbo

  • LMAO.... at all of you guys... ima old school person my self and i miss those old school days they were the best...

  • I miss when TV and movies used to epic fucking leaders like this...

  • HBO and Showtime were the shit. Cinemax and The Movie Channel showed their asses later.

  • @djreese00 HBO and Showtime might have been the shit, but you have your order wrong. HBO and Cinemax came out in the 80's. Showtime and The Movie Channel didn't come out until years later (about mid to late 90's).

  • @ellmoe2010 You're right, I stand corrected. Sheesh, all of those years and I thought I was watching The 3 Ninjas on Showtime...

  • @ellmoe2010 HBO, Showtime, TMC, and Skinemax have been around since the early 80s. Are you sure you're not thinking of Starz and possibly Encore as not being around until the 90s?

  • AAAHHH11 those were the days. I miss them.

  • DVNO

  • i remember being scared of this as a little girl hahaha

  • @priddyprincessful

LOL thats funny.... i used to like the shows they broadcasted...

  • I'm a little more than mad that this intro had to end with that rock 'n' roll switch-up and a little more so that it exists in the first place!

  • i remember seeing this logo from 1993 to 1995.

  • I love the music in the HBO intro's

  • Robocop was coming on

  • That was fucking intense

  • @dan290397 This was the only one I never saw at the end though when it said HBO Music now I'm trying to figure out whether or not it was a music video channel with the name HBO or whether or not it was a concert.

  • Lol I remember whenever the "HBO" Came on the screen, I would like scream and applaud and laugh because I just LOVED it :)

  • This reeks of nostalgia to me. I don't remember quite what was being showed when I saw this for the first time, but back when HBO was a common channel and I heard this intro come on, I'd always scramble to the TV and watch it intently because it was just so amazing to my childish eyes.

I look at this now...I'm almost 27 years old. Time is just far too short.

  • @TwilightPrince123 And now you're known as the Twilight Prince.

  • @7188181 Which has nothing to do with those accursed books, FYI.

  • does anyone know how long did they use it cause i was born in 82 and i remember this intro

  • @aerokorn, I think it was about from '80 til '98. But that's a ROUGH estimate

  • Even though HBO doesn't use this anymore, It's Still the Best.

  • Omg, I haven't heard that forever. I feel really old now!

  • I remember the commercial jingle, "HBO, we're going to make the magic show."

  • There's two different versions of this intro.

  • @MDthornton83 There is only one version of the music intro. They are both based on the same main intro.

  • 27 years later and what have we come up with?

  • Comment removed

  • the music is so awsome

  • Interesting how HBO censors comments made on their intro video.

  • Ahhh Keep going!!!!

  • right b the movie would start...damn television sux nowadayz

  • God I remember this, this brings back memories from my childhood.

  • What the hell was that!?!

  • Nice guitar part at the end.

  • deja' vu

  • This intro is so epic! It still gives me chills from when I was a kid getting ready to watch a good ass movie! They should have never changed it.

  • Gotta love the guitar part at the end.

  • I can imagine seeing this before Jimmy Buffetts "Live By The Bay"

  • Im sure I still have a VHS or 2 recorded from our old VCR with this old HBO theme

  • they used this intro for many years, i remember it still being used in the early 2000's

  • @KLewisChef that would've been out of date? Same volume and same logo. Surely they jazzed it up a lil,

  • @entertainme3000 We used to get HBO years ago,and they did continue to use this same intro well into the 90's and early 2000's. They had ones for more common movies and features but this was still used for the really big stuff, like special one time only concerts, or a TV Premiere for a Movie, or a Movie that hadn't been shown for a while or that had just been restored, stuff like that.

  • @SegaFanatic5188 yeah well even the early 2000's is a long time ago!

  • I remember I used to think this sounded like a Rocky theme...

  • Old school cable for the win....

    TV nowadays sucks.

  • HBO and WHT were the best thing since sliced bread back then......LOL

    Channels 2,4,5,7,9,11,13, 21 HBO and WHT.........LOL

  • OMG, I so remember this. Have not heard in a long time. Do you remember WHT?

  • Man, this is some serious nostalgia for me!

  • My history teacher would show us some HBO documentaries of history in class on VHS VCR . Bring out the big bulky VCR and they would start with that intro...haha classic memories

  • And then the movie Cocoon would come on and Jessica Tandy would give me a boner.

  • Incredible logo. Very Impressive for it's time (1983) !

  • While we're at it.

    Original theme to American Gladiator.

Go look it up, you know you want to :)

  • I remember seeing titties for the first on HBO and this was the theme!!

  • this is so awesome to see this classic holy shhhhhh yo i remember this before alot of movies i watched as a kid scarface, new jack city etc.............................

  • man i got excited and smiled during the video. brought back memories for real.

  • I used to LOVE this as a kid. They had it for years.

    COOL

  • It be like 2am and this intro would come on and hype me up knowing a kick ass movie was coming next... Then some low budget french film would come on. Ruining my night. Wasn't no Cinemax back then.

  • lol...very true

  • @machokingwwf

    Cinemax is HBO's direct child

  • @machokingwwf loL

  • in the mid 80's, HBO played several movies like thousands of times: police academy, porky's, risky business, revenge of the nerds, terminator. the good old day.

  • @andy42x I watched the terminator everytime it was on HBO. All of those great movies are in my DVD collection now.

  • ahh the good old days!

  • Wow.....this is crazy. Did anyone have Prism too?

  • Wow, what the hell was HBO about to show? A Quiet Riot documentary?

  • oh my god where can i buy this intro in full

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my god i remember this ...

  • me too..I was 5 yrs old then

  • fuck yeah!

  • DVNO :)

  • lmao

  • OMG I totally remember this. As a kid it meant that a movie was comming on LOL

  • That just gave me goosebumps. Awesome...Thanks

  • MAN this stuff takes me back to my childhood!

  • wow, how epic does the intro sound

  • This makes me feel young. Like 5.

  • WOW! This definately jolted some memories! I haven't heard this in 20 years, but have always been whisteling it. Cool.

  • Me too..hahah

  • This is good. I'm forever watching HBO Poland

  • Czesc, yes this is a great tune. This was the year I bought my first home, and was on a big Color TV. So this intro was very impressive, and HBO was exciting. I signed up for cable TV just for HBO. Dobranoc.

  • OMG I remember seeing this as a kid, it used to xcite me so much knowing a movie was coming on!

  • Amen.

  • i saw this effect on the video of Justice called DVNO

  • I remember when the all town watched hbo, cinemax, the movie channel, showtime, sure, only in Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico, especially the Cinemax's friday after dark, teenagers favorite jeje

  • Aw man...awesome

  • POWER INTRO!

  • super throwback

  • they used this intro forever. i remember watching HBO as a kid...damn

  • My mom got Cable with HBO/Cinemax together back in 82' when we moved, those were the days, so much more back then to watch, these days they play the same movie 4 times per day on the satellite network, back then you had maybe 3-4 times in a month to watch a particular movie, i remember so well because reading the TV Guide is how I learned to read, I was lucky too, in 1982 I was 6 years old and my mom didnt censor what I watched, TV today lacks the variety of the 80s, I miss those years

  • Got the same HBO/Cinemax combo in '83. I learned all about Skinemax at a very early age. Excellent retro bush to say the least. Turned me into a hair seeking little bastard. Whoa, bush! Just like on Skinemax! Ah, those were the days.

  • You're an idiot.

  • i was 3 yrs old in 1983 and i can honestly say i remember this intro. fucking crazy.

  • Did you also learn to drop the F bomb when you were 3?

  • Shit this brings back some memories this would always get me pumped for the movie I was about to watch man I miss the good ol' days

  • I rember this .. I would be so excited to watch the movie !

  • O Sílvio Santos copiou a vinheta pra TVS, de 1989... Tudo o que é bom tem que ser copiado.

  • I remember being on LSD that I obtained at a Grateful Dead show. I was tripping on my sofa while I watched this and my sofa turned into a roller coaster.

  • The 80s rocked!

  • I miss this, they dont make intros like that anymore.

  • HBO still uses this intro from time to time.

  • epic. so is my comment

  • Beautiful! Thanks for posting! I thought I'd never hear this again.

  • Holy crap! I remember this!

  • Woah! The nostalgia!

I still hum that to myself sometimes.

  • This reminds me of 2nd or 3rd grade @ Catholic school right before Xmas break.. We were going to watch velveteen rabbit, and the anticipation with this logo was awesome, remember it more than the velveteen rabbit actually...good times

  • That's a total triumph 80's banger track!!!

  • Bring this back!

  • Aww maaan, this reminds me when in the 80's me,my bro and friends used to have slumber parties and stay till the crack of dawn watching movies like"Porkies,Police Academy 2,Just One Of The Guys,Hot and Last Resort and Wierd Science just to name a few,man those were the good ole days!!

  • same here man! those slumber parties with my cousins! and then playing atari till your thumb hurts from the joystick!

  • that was an awesome song playing over it anyone kno wat it is?

  • It wasn't a song, it was just a riff made for the intro.

  • Woah, what the hell happened at the end? Never saw the "HBO Music" one, I guess.

  • Ahhh That was when HBO was the shit! ~sigh~ ^___^

  • back in the 80's our MTV was channel 6, Nick was 16 or 24, USA was 26 TNN was 28 and I cant remember the rest. oh yeah 30 was TBS and disney channel was 37. Storer cable represent!

  • I like this. They should bring it back.

  • Wow i haven't seen this in years so thanks alot for posting it up it was very nice seeing it again.

  • Man, they've copied this in a Brazilian TV (TVS) in the late 80's! Everything, including music...

  • Does anyone remember the monthly t.v. guides that came every month with a premium channel's subscription?(hbo, cinemax, the movie channel, showtime and prizm)Or did showtime take over prizm? Now thats classic!T.V. and food was so much better back then.

  • i think this was the best one ever (the movie one anyway). the late 80's and into the 90's one was ok. i haven't had HBO for a while. What does it do now

  • an ugly truck thing, where it goes really fast through a highway and shit, yuck.

    compared to this, its gross

  • that sounds so stupid. i'm glad i don't have HBO now.

  • why isn't this guy have 6 thumbs downs?

  • I was born in '79 and certainly remember this intro from when I was a kid.

  • this was off of beta tape and NOT vhs

  • I MISS THIS OLD HBO INTRO!!! its so epic! lol.

  • Dude, I wasn't even born in 83 and I remember this!! I think it was from old tapes my mama had way back when.

  • Jeeze Yeah!! Wow that was a long time ago.

    MTV 29, wow. Then VH1 was 28.

These days Music television plays No music.

  • i love this one i like the music

  • Hey Me too. I use to sing to to it.

  • Hey Me too. I use to sing to to it. Well hum to it.

  • To me, when I watch Empire Strikes Back, it doesn't feel the same without this intro from my tape.

  • its hard to believe that this logo has been used for almost or exactly 14 years.

  • More like 25 years. It came out in 1983.

  • 14 yrs?

  • I think you need to re-phrase that.

  • it started in 1982 or 1983 not very sure but it ended in 1997 so it would be about 14 or 15 yrs.

  • I can't believe you still have this

  • this song makes me feel so...like uneasy. not in a bad way, it just MAJOR nastalgia (bad speller)

  • I remember this like it was yesterday, its crazy how you think how stuff just goes away and we never notice. thank you for this flashback lol.

    awesome little vid

  • I know what you mean. I had not seen this in many years and the minute I saw it I had big flashbacks.

  • omg this is great..

  • try watching it on acid HOLY SHIT

  • I remember this!!!

  • o shit.i rememba dis

  • I used to pretend i was a spaceship landing in the HBO logo...awesome clip!!

  • I LOVE IT!!!!

  • Recently Justice (the french techno band that is now one of my faves) did a take on the hbo intro in their new music video for DVNO.

  • I remember fraggle rock came on about 7 or 7:30pm right before a movie. This post created flashbacks for me!

  • this RULEZ!

  • I recall they used to send out monthly flyers to show the schedule. They used to have a lot of movies on in the days before VCRs became popular and video stores popped up everywhere. Those were the good old days. Before HBO sold out and became a secular progressive liberal propaganda machine and porn pusher. Keep the kids away.

  • "secular progressive liberal propaganda machine" = intelligent educated people who believe in human rights, equality and making the stuck up conservative losers and religious nutjobs face reality & truth.

  • This was my favorite HBO Intro!

  • Memories!!!!

    I remember this!!!!

  • When I was a kid, I actually made up lyrics to go with the music of this HBO intro:

We are so much more than Cinemax.

Yes we are. Yes - we - are.

    [Better - than] Cinexmax, Cinemax.

Yes we are. Yes - we - are.

    [Better - than] Cinexmax, Cinemax.

    Yes - we - are!

    LOL, enjoy!

  • I like the song!!!!!

  • Thanks! :)

  • this logo's tombstone says: here lies the flying hbo logo 1983-1997. it will be missed.

NOTE: the city hbo logo SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1st of all, this HBO In Space intro debut in 1982, not 1983. 2nd of all, the HBO In Space intro's final year was in 1999, not 1997.

  • @catbeast2007 If you're talking to me who posted it, I never said the logo debuted in '82. This clip is from '83.
