  • God, what an incredible song. IMO much better than KD Lang's version. It's such a poignant & universal anthem to the heartbreak of addiction. Wilcox crafted a gem. & For the edification of the Rocket Scientists out there who've commented about Chet Baker, & this song, knowing nothing of either, the song is ABOUT Chet baker, not written by him, & certainly never performed by him, unless it was from 3 years beyond the grave..

  • i love the lyrics. :3

  • This song is not written nor recorded by Chet Baker. It's a song about Chet Baker's life before he took that plunge to his death since towards the end of his career he indulged into alcohol. David Wilcox wrote the song as if Chet Baker was singing from his perspective.

  • I'm sorry...I meant heroin...

  • oh i thought that was the song Chet Baker wrote just hours before he died. I've read about that song somewhere, I'm not sure if it was on wikipedia.

  • Bo, Corky, I have definitely attended (and played) many concerts. No disrespect to David Wilcox. It's just my preference to talk about the song before playing the music. To each his own I guess. It's a beautiful song and I agree Wilcox plays so beautifully. Hope I catch one of his concerts some day.

  • the way wilcox sings it is ok, but i wish someone would sing it the way chet baker would have.

  • you should listen to k.d. lang's rendition of this song

  • Cant' believe two of the people leaving comments have no concept or appreciation for the story of this song. Too bad you both miss the point (Jonesre3 and worksupermodel)

  • it's a beautiful song but I wish he wouldn't talk so much over the beginning chords.

  • So have you ever attended a live concert and particularly one by such a gifted singer/songwriter like David Wilcox? The talking is generally used to help the audience gain a better understanding of the song, you know like David did here.

  • @jonesre3: Chet Baker did indeed sing.

  • Chet Baker didn't sing and he didn't write this. Although it seems to be something any addict could write about.
