I love tromone(because i am trombone player) but it is one of the hardest to play because in slide positions if u get them off by too much the note sounds wrong and its really bad UH!!!

@lampsy32 Oh but we are! :) Only instrument with a slide. Completely unique for that. And with our ranges of all kinds of notes we got advantage! But trumpets still have there time to shine and have the melody in most songs, but normally with some kind of trombone back-up part. No instrument is better, that's all opinions so you sound very amuteur saying that. We are a very common jazz instrument too. Of course saxes are the king of jazz. ^.^ Trumpets can't own a gliss though. Only trombone! :)

Best instrument ever. Brass overall PWNS those stupid woodwinds. ^^ Slide is surprisingly useful for grabing fallen music too. :D I'm a girl trombonist btw, only girl in trombone section. In 6th grade there were 14 tromboners, i was the only girl. And i beat those guys! :) Basically the slide is a tuner which makes us so unique too. I know those trumpets with the slides are just jealous of us so they try to compare. No one compares to pure awesomeness.

<--trombone player from BC canada. agreed with everyone else, and especially getalife04, because i'm also a male tenor and vocal major at university. my range as a tenor is from G in the bottom of bass clef to A in the treble clef. and the trombone goes lower and higher than me in it's ideal range by as much as a 4th on each end. <3 the trombone. trombone 4 life. ALSO, check out the danish trombone quartet playing toccatto and fugue in d minor!

If you are accustomed to hearing kids play or people that don't take it seriously then yeah. But to hear someone that is a well practiced trombonist it is truly a wonderful sound. @Deathwish42 Yeah of course you can bend a pitch a little bit on a keyed instrument but not much. With a trombone the amount of bend is MUCH greater. I play 5 wind instruments and trust me nothing beats the bone when it comes to bending a pitch.

@getalife04 I play high brass instruments and it's I can play any pitch from the bottom of my range to the top, not just any note but any pitch. Pick the note closest to the desired pitch and bend it to where you want it. I'm pretty sure that french horn is the king of bending pitch seeing as how I can play a chromatic scale on my horn with out touching a valve, pretty sure you have to move the slide to do that on trombone.

@getalife04 with that logic you can tune string instruments just as well as trombone. example. you notice that you're flat so you pull the slide in a bit to compensate where's with a violin you notice you're flat so you move your hand up the the string to compensate. also, moving the slide is not bending the note even if you get the same effect. The french horn has a similar quality in that the hand can be adjusted in the bell to fix tuning issues. push hand in to flatten and out to sharpen

So YES it is possible for other instruments to bend pitches and what not but the trombone is the most versitile instrument next to the voice, and that is my opinion. There end of discussion. Thanks.

@getalife04 trombone is amazing, but a good valved instrument player can lip up or down to get any type of pitch. I myself find this easy. Braces really help you get the wrong pitch.
