As slaves black women were taught to depend on no one, and be independent. As slaves black women were taught to depend on no one, and be independent. Slaves were bred like horses, and after one male slave had reproduced with the female slave he would then be sent to reproduce with another female slave somewhere else. That leaves the black woman to raise offspring on her own to the best of her ability, independently.
