Once in a while, I like to watch this video and rekindle some of the joyful memories of my childhood - the sights, the sounds, even the *smells* of some of my favorite hangouts. ^_^
Many of these memories can be revisited, in a way, through emulators, (piecemeal) compilations or even (somewhat) accurate remakes but it isn't quite the same as visiting an actual arcade and challenging/teaming up with a fellow gamer. 9_9
Today's 'entertainment centres' have nothing on the old haunts. T_T
Although I was born in 1991, I do love the '80s. I wish I knew there was a place where they still have the '80s arcade games, because I want to play on them. I never have done in my life.
I remember those days. Every game costs maybe $.50, everyone gather around you because you were just cool like that, and you trying to figure out what the damn thing sounds like because of either the other games or the music on the radio.
I love this!!!! Arcades in the 80'a were arcades/clubs/restaurants...theyy were so great. What killed that innocent 80's vibe??? By far-the best decade-music,tv,movies, fun!!!!
@becoool54321 You missed out on alot son, these were the greatest video games ever made, and most of them were only a quarter, not $1.00 like most games are now.
Thank you to whoever was the creator of that video! That brought back alot of great memories! And that is my favorite Journey song too! Dragon's Lair, the greatest video game ever in my opinion!
God-damn, that was ALL types of awesomeness buddy, really first rate!
We all miss those days, the hours spent in arcades -even when you didn't have any money- just seeing someone kick-ass on strider...oh well, I'm off to my Mortal Kombat cab to vent frustration at Johnny Cage.
This video is pure gold. I wish people could figure out a way to remind kids how fun these places were. Such a change from bending over a console playing a video game. And now with sites like Twin Galaxies these places would be even better for competition.
And people want the classics so bad. "CHasing Ghosts" "The King Of Kong" there's a reason there's an underground success of those movies. People want that competition in scores for games again.
That is pretty much how it was, right down to the Attract Modes and the music videos. It was great to walk into an active arcade and be overwhelmed by the sounds and sights. Those days are gone forever. All that's missing is the posters and mirrors!
This brought back some darn good memories! Nothing like saturdays at the mall in the arcade in the mid 80's(The peak of video arcades!)All those sounds made a wonderful symphony of FUN.You couldn't get more entertainment for a quarter and you never will again.THANKS SO MUCH for making this.I just went back to my teenage years and had goosebumps to boot!!!
This is exactly like every arcade system back in the day. I remember walking around with my coke, leaning on the arcades wathing others play, wishing I could get that darn Dragon's Layer game to do what I told it... whoever made this video deserves an Oscar for the best online nostalgic video.
I have mame virtual arcade also how did you manage to make the cabinets show the games moving without you clicking on the game ? All I could manage to do was a still picture of the game.
This is the coolest video I've seen on Youtube EVER! 5 Stars. Even though it was "virtual" it reminded me of the arcades I used to always go to, and yes... some of them had those monitors with the music videos playing in the background. I miss neon lights from arcades as well. You captured the tone, theme, and moods perfectly man! Way to go!

My compliments to Mr. Dries---for recreating something that is joining the drive-in theater as vanishing Americana.

Put the name of JOURNEY and their song in the tags, so people pull it up when they look for that also.

Super-cool vid.. I'd never been to an arcade that fancy.
Couldn't help but notice that this must be taking place in EARLY 1984, as there were no machines from 1984 that I could see.
