  • Superb driving!

  • Group A was the best!!

  • Those were the days. All this modern ford vs holden is boring.

  • love the sound of the V12 jag

  • Just a superb machine , good driver though.Credit due, good lap.

  • Im glad I got to see the group A era in person before it turned into the boring as fuck taxi racing it has become today!

  • RIP Tom Walkinshow. Truly a legend of motorsport.

  • Dont forget Group C and IMSA GTP cars that raced in europe and america at the same time as Group A. Race car chassis with any powerful engine combo you could think of (big block chevy, 300zx turbo v6, V12 Jaguar, turbo porche flat 6, turbo buick/holden 3.8 v6, even turbocharged 4 cylinder ford cosworth and BMW M3 engines, ALL making atleast 700hp in race trim. names like TWR, NPTI, and ofcourse porche all dominated. by the end of it the Jag XJR14 had comparable laptimes to eurpoean F1 cars!

  • now that jaguar can eat a lion in one bite!!!

thumbs up if it can kill a mustang an a camaro!

  • what a BEAST!

  • great vid and will never forget le mans 88. R.I.P.

  • your kids should be watching this, as mine will be when they grow a little older. get them away from the v8 taxicar garbage!!

    oh and RIP Tom

  • RIP Tom Walkinshaw

  • Wonderful, wonderful moments, this is what motorsport should be about,

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

  • I was in the pits at Bathurst that year and the two Jags were BY FAR the loudest cars on the track. You'd be watching the TV and see them coming down Conrod and then into ;pit lane and then you'd get the roar from the actual car.

    RIP Tom.

  • RIP Tom. This is what I think of when I think of you.

  • R.I.P mate... say hello to Brock for us :)

  • R.I.P Tom Walkinshaw you will be deeply and sadly missed,

  • R.I.P Tom Walkinshaw he will be sadly missed... :(

  • Yes, I miss the Group A days, The arseholes did get what they wanted... On ya Jimmy

  • You wouldn't want to get in his way, on track or off it !!!

Great lap Tom, hope you're putting in a few more up there........

    R.I.P.

  • RIP

  • Great, great great how this guy steers this car around the track. Espescially @ 1.15.. It's a loss for the racing world.. A big loss..

    R.I.P Tom

  • RIP

  • RIP

  • RIP Tom

  • RIP Tom

  • That moment when takes the left-hander on two-wheels... just mega!!

    RIP Tom.

  • RIP Tom ....

  • WE NEED OTHER MANUFACTURERS IN V8 FUCKING SUPERCARS!

  • Looks soo great, sounds amazing, shivers down my spine! Great vid!

  • V8 not so supercars Ford and Holden only = Boring Boring Boring!!!

  • Now THIS is driving.

  • This is the most underrated video EVER.

A magnificent driver complementing a magnificent piece of engineering perfection.

  • @mk2efords Absolutely !! the fuckwits now put in that stupid chicane which i think is way more dangerous !!

  • back in the days of group C, at bathurst, there were nissans, toyotas, volvos, even the V12 jags raced at bathurst 80, 81, 82, 83 & 84 and even they were no match for the mighty 308 commodores and the monster 351 falcons. holden and ford just raped everyone in the first half of the 80s at bathurst.

  • @2GoRightGoHolden Agree with you about Group C - great variety of makes and performance. I do recall Kevin Bartlett's Camaro using a Gemini for brakes one year... The occasional encounter with a flat bed truck trundling around the track was an added surprise bonus too.

  • bugger group a. BRING BACK GROUP C!!!!!

  • Now this is a Great Race right here... I saw some modern "highlights" and didn't get what all the fuss was about, but now I know...

  • fantastic car sounded great to. (coming from a holden fan)

  • I know this is only qualifying but this was an era when the 1000 was a 1000km race, not a series of pace car controlled super sprints.

  • That is one loud car. I was at musclecar masters 08 and it was awesome, much better than the current V8 supershit.

  • tom walkinshaw, owner of F1 arrows and TVR cars?

  • That would be the same.

  • @sardosfish Yes, is he!

  • I don't think the Jaguar had Power-Steering so it would of been one hell of an ask for Tom to rip-it around the Mountain that quickly.

  • Compared to the Australian/American V8's sounds the ghey.

  • This awesome video is a reminder of what aussie motorsport lost when local touring car racing shrivelled into its current v8 supercar format. The arseholes got what they wanted...

  • I agree, this was real racing. I wont watch this ford/Holden v8 tripe they are dishing up now.

  • Agreed. M3s, Skylines, Sierras, Jags...Those were the days. It is so boring to watch now.

  • @chessimate Agreed !! This fucking Holden / Ford only is BULLSHIT !!

  • @chessimate volvos... vauxhalls... just so many cars from so many companies... :(

  • @fritzski22 group C was better. MUCH better.

  • @fritzski22 now its basically kit car vs kit car

  • @fritzski22 Its not just in Aus mate, its world wide. 80s - mid 90s were the best times for motorsport

  • mate that jag sounds nice.

  • Whether you like the guy or not didn't that V12 sound awesome! What a car. I remember this race as a kid and i always liked the XJR's after seeing them at Bathurst.

  • same here, I will try finding one for myself after university!

  • Why because he dominated?

  • No because he has stitched up many people in V8 racing Skaife, kelly racing, perkins.and anybody that has had dealings with him people don't speak up though.

  • lovin this video!! leave me a comment

im on cam and bored Zb

  • I love the frantic hand movements over the last hump on Conrod... and was he wringing it's neck or what? The in car footage from the race loks like he's on a warm up lap by comparison...

  • I have seen one of the sister cars to this one recently. (Originally driven by Denny Hulme) It sounds terrible compared to this one. Alan Moffat was a great commentator, like Crompton is today, because he has done it and know what he's talking about.

  • Well it should have won by about 2 laps but Hansford blew it up!! And father Franks boys took the gold(Longhurst and Mezera)

  • Never liked Tom Wanker!! No one will ever forget the 1988 Saturday top ten run off. What a complete farce that was.....all thanks to one fuckin scottish!!!

  • Ah yes 1988, he protests the leading Sierras (excpet Eggenbergers hmmm....) His fragile british built car craps itself in 4 laps and the protest about the lead HSV car having an illegal steering rack and front wing was upheld(no dq seeing it had retired anyway) Sierras were cleared too!! Maybe Holden should have just stuck with the Polarizer!!

  • Duckin too right. Bloody Tom Wank came to Ozzie, got a little upset at how good Australian Sierras were built and had all of 'em impounded!! For the leading Shell DJR Sierras they were stripped into a million pieces on Friday evening. Found nothing wrong. Hastily cobbled up again, all the Oz Sierras were off the pace and of course the ANZ (non Australian) Sierra got the loot. Annyway you know the deal....am I still feeling a bit sore? U betcha!!!

  • wasnt it 1987???

  • kennymiesta, if that was the 1987 Bathurst 1000 race it would have the Chase in it.

  • not the vid lol, i was talking about the Polarizer that XXXXShelts was talking about

  • Oh sorry Kennymiesta, I mostly read questions or comments as they are written so I thought I might reply.

  • your right, no harm done, i sorta figured that you didnt read the original one, thats why i thought i'd just let you know.

    cheers

  • umm mentalydamaged.. Allan Moffat was not a yank, he was a Canadian... and im a aussie btw

  • Wow i love these old bathurst vids!

  • Great stuff, i love too see the old racing and im well impressed with the handling on this Xjs. Sounds awesome too

  • Bigcat178, the commentator was Alan Moffat that said "Heres one Englishman" what can you expect from an American trying to call an Aussie race? I could never stand that big headed yank when he was racing let alone commentating.

  • mate he wasnt yank, he was canadian.

  • Walkinshaw is a bigger arsehole than Moffat by a long shot...and that's coming from a scotsman.

By the way, Allan is a Canadian.

  • I'll correct myself here...Allan is now an Australian Citizen.

  • Dam he sounded like a yank but drove like a Canadian I should have knowen. How did he pass the Bradman test to become an Aussie citizen?

  • Comment removed

  • Oh dear the one commentator "Heres one Englishman" as a scot this really sticks in my throat! TW is a Scotsman and pround of it.

  • did they change the rules in 1986 as the jaguars completely disappeared after this

  • Great to see the Jaguar showing just what they are capable of! All jaguars have "Grace space, and Pace...real sport saloons built with quality engineering real leather great handling too!

  • awsome vid, im so glad that the skyline didn't race at that race.

  • you're not a big skyline fan are you?

  • by the sounds of it mate, thas true. i with him as well, i don't like skylines either.

  • why? too afraid the jag would get owned badly?
