FOR MAC USERS:

1) Open iTunes, then at the top left of your screen select iTunes > Preferences.

2) Click the Devices tab, then under the Device Backups window just simply place your mouse cursor over one of the listed backups for your device. You don't need to click it, just leave the mouse cursor on it for a few seconds.

And voila! It should show the device's phone number, IMEI, and serial number.

this helped a lot. it was a little harder for me since i'm using windows vista, but i eventually got it! for anyone using vista, click start > in the search bar type in itunes, and then click "search tools" > "search options" > view > click "show hidden files and folders"

I'm using Windows 7, I enabled all hidden files to appear,, although when looking for the documents and settings folder, I don't find it.. Im looking in the C drive too! Do you now how I can navigate to those files using a windows 7 explorer. Also this will be able to find all the device(s) that hvae ever been attached to this computer?

4. the last plugged device's serial number should be there!

heres how you find out your iPod serial number

this will only work if your lost iPod was the last iPod to be plugged into iTunes

1. hit the "ctrl" button ( dont let go of it)

2. go to help (dont let go of the ctrl button)

3. go to about iTunes (still dont let go of the ctrl button)

4. when you see iPod S/N that will be the serial number of your pod then you can let go of the ctrl button

I received restitution but never got my i-Pod back. I laugh when I think that this young punk most likely burst into flames when he went to listen to it. Hahaha! @claydon1 For police reports or for proving that the device is yours. For example, you could use NotifyWire to monitor Craigslist to see if anyone is selling your iPod/iPhone and then go and check the serial numbers for a match.

Essentually to claim property as yours, you need proof. Having the serial number on file in a police report for stolen property is usually proof enough.

I recently lost my ipod touch. Instead of doing your instructions I just did the following to find the serial number:

1) Go to your itunes.

2) Go to "Itunes Preferences" under the "Itunes" tab at the top of your screen.

3) Go to devices.

4) The last device that was plugged into the computer will be under the "Device" section.

Right click the device name then the serial number will appear.

needs to be the last ipod connected to the computer

OK click ctrl and hold it. then go to tools on the itunes bar. then hit "about itunes" while still holding ctrl. then you should see a bunch of stuff scrolling down. u can let go of ctrl now. then u will see S/N with a code next to it. hit space and coppy it down to report it. (plz make a new video so ppl dont have to go thru what i had to. name it how to fin a serial # on and ipod) of course no1 has the fukin case. PEACE

DUDE OMG THANKS.! For everyone with iTunes 10, go to your itunes and hold down "ctrl" and click "help" then click "about itunes". all that while youre still holding down "ctrl".

from there you can let go and a scroll list will show you a bunch of info about it, and like he ^ said, when you see "S/N" , the number next to that is your serial number. Thanks SOOOOOO much for your help dude! youre a damn saint! Luck to all of you!!
