Obviously the Supreme Court can't stop Fred Phelps from saying "I'm so happy your son was killed in Iraq" twenty mile away from the funeral, and obviously the cops can come and arrest Fred Phelps if he climbs on top of the coffin and starts yelling with a megaphone. So what the Supreme Court is deciding is 'how many feet away does Fred Phelps have to be?'

He was on his bike, stopped at request of the cop, he merely turned around and BAM... Shot at point blank range. And the guy was of course unharmed. Imagine what would have happened if he was open carrying ?

The danger currently seems to come more from the police than from the bad guys

It is more complicated than that. Supposedly they were not enough to counter the pain he was in, I think it was an overdose in the form of an analgesic reaction between pain medications. He later had the nerve endings severed to end the pain and reliance on medication.

i am fully behind Larry Flynt in his struggles to preserve the 1st Amendment, but to "out" a gay Senator just because he is gay doesnt sound right. he mentioned 2 politicians, one who was gay and they were hoping to out him. In light of this weeks events at Rutgers, i hope that he uses discretion and only does it if the Senator is openly against gay issues....
