  • This is NOT Keith Moon on drum!!

  • I can't understand why a song can be rejected because being "too humorous" !

  • mmhh...no...i dont think this is Keit Moon's drumming......

  • @paoloarmitano you're stupid

  • This is too funny.

  • It's Keith. For another "restrained" example, listen to "Miss Otis Regrets", a recently released LaBelle track from, I think, '72.

Keith *could* play boring drums, he just didn't want to!

  • no way is this keith moon on drums, doesn;t sound like him at all....way way too polished. I love the who and moonie, I think he was one of tghe best drummers ever but this is not him

  • The Who should have done this. The best songs on the last Who albums were written by Entwistle.

  • john's so great and I love everything keith played.

  • Off key in some areas.

  • Hell, it's not any cornier than Squeeze Box.

  • "don't pick your nose at the table" LOL sounds like dinner at my house.......... i'll bet that he was going to put in some horns, but instead of going thru all that trouble on a demo john and keith just blew on kazoos. ya gotta love his wacked-out sence of humor. :)

  • Your probably looking at and listening to the the greatest percusion act ever. To me as a bass player, JE will never be surpassed, and imagine having KM behind you ! The were and are brilliant !

  • keith and john were the Who, not roger adultress or peter townshit, said it in the 70's sayin it now

  • great Halloween song sounds good any time though

  • La section rythmique de rêve ces deux là réunis!

  • The bass line in the verse sounds like "Lithium" by Nirvana. Or I should say that Nivana's Lithium sounds like this.

  • "dont pick your nose at the table"

damn way to take all the fun out of life

  • John looks funny at this foto;)

  • @mbrdej

It's the late sixties! Everyone looked funny then!

  • @thankyoupourlavideo u look funny bitch

  • The more I hear it, the more briljant it becomes

  • what album is this from, is there more demos?

  • @dogma264 This song was intended for the 'Who Are You' album of '78! Another great song intended for the album was pete's song 'empty glass'- have a listen to the who demo! The song ended up as the title track of pete's first real solo album! Great post!

  • Ahead of it's time!! That keyboard sound sounds like something from the 80's-Thomas Dolby, or something. & Moon w/ the hi-hat (although, he did a lot of that in the studio-but not live-for whatever reason-Entwistle was quoted as saying:"because the hi-hat wasn't loud enough!") You'll notice at the end of the song, he switches to his beloved cymbals! And boy, Entwistle could sing! Always held it together "live" when Townshend was too busy windmilling to provide back-up/harmonies.

  • This is so GREAT!

  • This is great.! Thnx.

  • This came off of John`s solo album. Maybe mad dog. Keith drumming.

  • are any of you people serious? The Who was and still are part of the Holy Trinity of The British Invasion.

Pete was one of the first people to work with Synths and was the influence on bands like Pink Floyd. Pete still remained the great writer he had always been and Roger finally found his true voice after Tommy. Keith was still as strong as ever and John never ever faltered in his ability to play bass. No one could ever play like him, and still today no one can. Know your info first.

  • rejected by the band for being too humorous

    lol :D

  • pete had been writing with synths since 1971, he was one of the first to figure out to work a moog synt. he wasnt writing to change with times he was developing the times

  • too rare but consistent. i am obsessed with sci fi music. my music takes you in without words for hours. i wanted to meet any competition. john was worthy

  • prove it

  • Very underrated.

His solo band blew anthing the WHO did (post Moon) away, sadly very few got to see them. John "unchained" can anybody imagine?

Most of the shows were in the states. John only surrounded himself with brilliant people.

  • As a songwriter, he was very underrated. A listen to many of the songs he wrote for not only the Who but his solo albums as well would confirm that. `Whisky Man', `Success Story', `Silas Stingy', `What Are We Doing Here?', `Apron Strings', `I Found Out', `Thinking It Over', `905', `Ted End', to name just a few, are tunes I first heard as a teen and still sing to myself to this day.

  • this is better than 75% of the shit on who are you.

  • not really

  • yes really

  • umm have you even listen to Who are You

its one of their best albums

  • what good about it

  • almost everything 905,guitar and pen,music must change,who are you,trick of a light

  • yeah theyre all pretty lackluster. pete was trying to write music that was shifting with the times but he really couldnt. the exclusion of really synth driven riffs kind of ruined their sound and keith moons drumming was lacking at the time. really not a great album.

  • are you joking?

  • from wht

  • Uhm Me thinks this is Kenny Jones on drums, or someone else other than Keith

  • Comment removed

  • @ eldato333 - yep maybe. i'm pretty convinced there's a few very famous who numbers where the drumming was actually pete's. mainly due to the fact that moon wasn't comfortable playing in 6/8 time or 3/4. if you've heard any of pete's drumming on demos etc you'd recognize it. he's pretty decent. "they're all in love" from "who by numbers" is a possible example.. no disrespect to the moon-meister though, before a million irate fans jump on me. he was the original and best of course!

  • Didnt guys from New York bring this this back to life from a damaged tape at John house !

    Godfrey and Joe ?

Allen St John on keys ?

This guy Loungo did some crazy unheard of stuff to sync the track as well

Funny sh*t ....the solo is a trumpet mouthpiece, hand, cooking funnel and toilet plunger !

Leave it to them Long Island boys....!

  • effin weird man! the 2 coolest dudes ever =D

  • wat a talanted man.......its a shame that his solo albums or songs were never noticed when he was alive....better writer and better musician than townsend. rip johnny twinkle

  • i can't stop listen to it.

    Great song.

in which cd i can find this?

  • What a great and unexpected discovery. I agree with the comments above.

  • Where can I find this?

  • youtube :)

  • I love this!!

John has such a wicked sense of humour. He was a devilishly dark and funny songwriter - A lot of his songs are like creepy little fairy tales. Anyone who loves this should immediately go out and buy 'Smash Your Head Against the Wall' and 'Whistle Rhymes'. Two excellent albums from the man they called 'The Ox'.

I really love the way John writes in such a direct manner when telling the stories. The songs are as subtle as steel-toe capped boot to the noggin.

  • And the same applies to John. Pino Palladino is a fantastic bass player, but none of these guys would be half of what they are now without John's revolutionary technique. Same goes for most of today's rock drummers. Almost every one will say that Keith Moon was one of their heroes when it came to the drums. He said he wanted to be immortal - looks as though he has achieved his wish - one of the most widely influential drummers of this or any time :-) Such a shame he isn't around to see it.

  • Keith and John were like brothers, with this being John's song- Keith played it the best way, restrained yet cool with the fills- special for John.

    Sounds great without any guitar!

  • @jkllad That is true. :) When I first heard it, I didn't recognize Keith's drums. He's got beautiful control here, and sounds solid. :) I love Keith, and John, but love them most when they are together. :)

  • To all those who say that this drumming sounds too disciplined to be Keith...have a listen to "I'm Free" from the Tommy album. He's very disciplined in that. He keeps in time throughout the song and doesn't do nearly as many flourishes and fills as he normally does. I think Keith liked to prove he could every now and then. The best rock drummer that has ever been (in my humble opinion), and John Entwistle probably the best bass player in the world too. Both of them sorely missed.

  • completely agree, moon could play a simple back beat whenever he wanted, he CHOSE to play the way he did, which was incredible and added so much to pete's songs. the ox and keith the two most revolutionary/best musicians in their respected fields imo.

  • It's funny "bigdave" because I remember an interview with Pete when he said that Roger was the best interpreter of his songs that he could ever have wished for, but I think that should apply to Keith and John as well, because without them, The Who just wouldn't have been The Who - as was proved all too well when Kenney Jones joined them after Keith's untimely death. Jones just didn't fit. Zak Starkey isn't doing a bad job, but nobody is Keith, and never will be.

  • I also agree with both of you if pete didn't have those three around him then that Who sound would never be.

  • i'm free has a massive roll just about every 10 secs - in fact, i alaways thought it was the best drummin by moon- that and amazing journey

  • Salut ! Je suis un Who Fan depuis Toujours ! This Entwhistle Song est vraiement Timeless , don't you Think ? Et , n'a t-il pas reussi a encadrer Keith Moon qui detestait , les Hit-Hats, ! My Wife / Heaven and Hell/Face Dances's Song / "The Who's it's Hard ' s song. (Sunn Amps/ Orange/ Galian-Kruegger/ Rotosound ...The Real First Lead Bassiste period, (Who's 1st Album) to creat an instrumental Track that Was Sooo Much uneard' ov at that time ! Still kicks any commercial metal to this date ! C Ya

  • You can tell in the drum fills that it's Keith Moon, but I'm shocked by his discipline for the rest of the song.

  • yeh couldnt agree more.

  • unfourtunalty, this was the result of his alcoholism and the fact that the band had been on haitus since '75. Together, these kept him off his drums so his playing became EXTREAMLY simplifiy.

  • I TOoooOOoTALLY AGREE ! See my 1st commentary ! U No Your DEWHO !

  • yeah:when he started play he was totally nuts on the drums and played like he was doing continous fills, but in 1979 he wasn't that good so (as you can hear in "Who are you") he did more basic stuff, plus some fills ala keith moon.. i'm a drummer and i think he's the best of all time..

  • im sure it would of been made more whoish if it was chosen for who are you... ite screams JE solo album...

  • HAHA! This song is so AWESOME!!! Is that Moonie on the drums? It dont sound like his style, really too controlled! Man the Ox's tunes should of been more sucsesful, his songs are so amusing but immense!

  • Comment removed

  • yeah doesnt sound like him that much but it actually is. haha great song eh?

  • John's songs had to be the best out of the band. Pete was the best though..... Doesn't make much sense!!! AUGHHHH I"M SO CONFUSED

  • the thing is that pete wrote all his songs with sybolism and making refrence to his spiratual leader like meher baba and other great infuences on his life but these other ones are good but i enjoy a nice ponder over each song

  • Great song! Hadn't heard it before, thanks for posting

  • hahha. i love all johns songs.

  • His songs were very underated

  • Yeah they did! 'Whiskey Man, Boris the Spider, 905, My Wife, The Hawker, Had Enough, Success Story' and the others were all fantastic songs by John. Of course his songs were overshadowed largely due to the success of Townshend, since he wrote a large majority of 'Who' songs. Anyways, I totally agree there...

  • Great song by Thunderfingers! The pic is super cute!

  • Fantastic JAE song, but I can understand why it was rejected. I can't see where it would 'sit' on the WAY L.P! Thanks for posting it.

  • I love this..thanks for posting! =D

  • There's something I don't get here. The Who dismissed this song because they thought it was too humorous. but what about my wife? doctor, doctor? whiskey man? those were also too humorous but they've done them anyways. that's what the ox kwew how to do well! (apart from playing amazing bass...)

  • I suppose it wouldent really fit into the rest of the album, and what Pete wanted the album to mean.

  • maybe that album was only to be serious

  • @whomod87 and wat about dr hide

  • @whomod87 its a great song but it doesn't fit with who are you exactly, doctor doctor and whiskey man are both from quick one which overall is a very fun - surf album

  • @whomod87 you got to understand one thing this was in late 70s all those songs you listed were written in the 60s tastes in music change specialy in 10 year period
