  • Cont- could not sing with fresh flowers next to him and asked for them to be moved, and for the air conditioning to be turned down. Aretha Franklin is the same way. When you saw Pavaratti, he always wore a scarf around his neck to protect his voice. PPL, STOP raggin on KB! She is truly blessed to have such a great voice!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE Kathleen Battle and ALWAYS have. Even in 2008 she sounds wonderful! I don't know what everyone is sqwaking about. My brother is a professional singer of Opera and Liturgy, and most everyone has a little/alot of Diva in them. Their instrument is their voice. If a cold draft is blowing on them they easially get hoarse and get a cold. They can't afford to get sick. They have to protect their voice at all cost. My late father who also sang opera, could not sing with fresh flowers nest to him

  • I always liked Kathy Battle on recordings but I heard her in Symphony Hall in Boston in her prime and one could barely hear her...I always felt she was the product of the recording studio.

  • amazing

  • This womans voice is phenomenal. Whatever happened in the past is on the past. Enjoy the glory of her voice. me

  • Stunning!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice

  • Muy linda

  • beautiful. gave me chills.

  • Good lord. Her high notes are unparalled. How can you not be moved?

  • I haven't heard a voice this sweet and uplifting. Such a true voice of an angel, even after all these years.

  • You idiots ........just enjoy the damn performance

  • i really do not like this performance. To much movement and the sound shifts from an open sound to a dark sound. with dark and bright vowels. its not consistent.

  • @mjholt08 she's older...do you expect her to sound like 35 year old kathy. i love older singers. they sound more real to me for some reason!

  • @couturesixfour Because as one gets older, the voice gets deeper, fuller, and richer in tone

  • @stueystu1 I'm going to repost your statement!

  • ha ha check out the pope pretending he understand english acting all interested. I heard he's german.

  • @lilrapper76, popes already know several languages, of course he does know what is being sung. Many priests have to study other languages.

  • @lilrapper76 He can speak english and yes he is German.

  • @lilrapper76 no comment

  • Luciano Pavarotti was just as, if not more, of a bitch and a diva than Kathleen Battle ever was, but it's apparently OK if a white man acts up in the world of opera. But if a woman of color does it? Not so much.

  • Pavarotti did NOT have the reputation of being "difficult." Black divas Grace Bumbry and Shirley Verrett were famous for being "difficult", but they were never fired from the Met. Maria Callas was fired from the Met, but she was white.

Please don't pull the race card people. If you know anything about opera, you know that black American female opera singers have dominated their white counterparts since the 60's. It's Black American male opera singers that haven't broken through yet.

  • It's hard NOT to pull the race card when folks would call Kathleen Battle and nicknamed her "U.N." as in "Uppity N****r."

There's no way not to involve race in this discussion. Has anyone, for instance, called Pavarotti an "Uppity WOP/Guido?" I believe not.

  • Whoever called Kathy a "Uppity N****r" is an ugly and ignorant person. I may not be fond of Battle, but such language is truly hateful and reveals the character of the person who speaks of anyone that way.

  • The voice has darkened in her later years, and sounds nothing like her glory years of the 80's and 90's. I've heard that Kathleen is suffering from health problems, which is why she no longer has the crystal-clear clarity in her voice that she used to be renowned for. I don't wish anything bad on her, but her diva behavior in the past came with a price. In this life, no one (and I mean no one) escapes from their due payment. What goes around, comes around. Sorry, Kathleen!

  • Why do you think Battle hasn't sung ONE opera in over 15 years? Why do you think NOT ONE opera company has hired her in over 15 years? Why do you think EVERY person who has ever worked with her called her a bitch? Why do you think even James Levine agreed that Battle had to go? Why At age 44, when her OPERATIC career should have been going for 15 more years, did it end abruptly? Because NO ONE wants to work with her! She was physically and verbally abusive to her colleagues. CASE CLOSED!!!

  • @goldenthroat86

that cause they were all wrong and she was the ONLY ONE RIGHT lol

thats all the bipolars say about themselves lol

  • @goldenthroat86 LOL! Yes, I know someone from the Met said that Battle is difficult to work with. I think she was generally insecured about herself. I personally like her pop album only. That says a lot abt her operatic voice. LOL!

  • At the time of Kathleen Battle's termination from the Met in '94, she was cast as the lead in The Daughter of the Regiment. During a rehearsal of that opera, when it was announced that Battle had been fired from the Met, "...the entire cast, crew and orchestra broke out in thunderous applause."

  • Battle has an awesome voice! IN her prime it was stunning! She earned a bad reputation. Too bad people get stuck on the that. Frank Sinatra was a total asshole but had adoring fans until the end. Just enjoy her music for gods sake!

  • @goldenthroat86 Well what do you know. A clip of Kathleen Battle singing towards at the end of her career and goldenthroat86 is here making negative repetitive comments about her. What else do you do besides go to her videos and post the same stuff over and over. Why do you pick on the videos from the end of her career. I'll also add, she sounds rather spectacular.

  • Gee, it's amazing how Divine Providence has fitted Ms "Battle" with a most apropo last name...

  • I heard Kathleen and the Pope hooked after this. Can anyone confirm?

  • you soulless animal

  • It's well-known that the current Pope likes his chocolate on the dark side. You can just see him undressing Kathleen with his his lustful eyes.

  • @MankoLKR

    that would make senses

they would love each other, they are both evil lol

  • It's a Protestant tune, inappropriate in the Catholic Liturdy, but it's anointed nonetheless.

  • Oh dear..what an awful arrangement - she had an adorable voice - but that sound mix and arrangement were terrible and didn't do her justice.

  • Ich mag es.

  • PS its sad that some people feel that need to write about so negativity- taking down Ms Battle, other religions, and each other, when they should be enjoying Ms Battle using her God given gift to give this most beautiful performance and worship Him.

  • Ok- so there is nothing "left out of this" some of the words and phrases are changed (ie debts from trespasses), but the prayer is the same as the Catholic prayer that is said everyday in Mass, the rosary etc.

As for keyloves, I agree about the a la carte nature of Protestantism, but you do not have to be so agressively judgmental about it- it only makes you and other Catholics look bad. And lets face it saying that people should be hanged is clearly not being a good Catholic.

  • Yikes I didn't know she was that bad. In an interview she went berserk once when she was asked about her reputation for being "temperamental." LOL

For those who know anything about astrology her triplicity is...LEO Sun, SAGI Moon and GEMINI Rising. She also has the Sun, Mercury, Saturn and Pluto All Conjunct in LEO Yikes!!! Can we say Arrogance, Pride, Ego, Self Important and Royal Entitlment all at once??

  • can we say "pathetic person who bases their judgements on people on astrology"??? get a clue.

  • @NordicHealer Did you see the interview?! She didn't go beserk...she got up and left... oh how we stretch the truth...

  • Carol Vaness

  • .

I tell you my fellow Christians, that all the sins in this world is accountable to the churches, for if they only unite and upheld free giving instead of buying and selling, there could be no robber and thieves among them, nor is there a chance for athiestic view to rise. The Way of God had suffered abusive speech from the enemies of God because the churches are harlot.

    .

  • @conceil8 U go bible dude lol

    I wanna go to hell

all my friends will be there anyway lol

  • Thanks for acknowledging that God is the power and the Glory. Those words are always left out of the Catholics version of the Lords prayer. Anyone know why?

  • It is not left out. It might be at the church you attend, but I have never heard it left out.

  • You are wrong. It has been "left out" of the prayer by the catholic church for many years. it is also left out by some high Anglican churches in England.

  • Most people don't believe they were in the original version of the scriptures. Most protestant bibles will add this footnote too. Catholic churches do however say it at mass every Sunday.

  • that's untrue.

  • I didn't enjoy this at all. Strange miking and accompaniment.

  • She has a lovely voice! But I wish I could hear her without that aweful echo/microphone combination...

  • @vocalpianist

    its not the mic

    its her lol

    serious

  • bush and that pope look great together. hope she got at least 30,000 to sing for them.

  • When she hits the first high note at 2:08, that's when I completely become hypnotized.

  • hey our dear president bush! love him too!

  • Yeah, I'm sure he said "awesome Song Biatch" too Ms Battle. :-)

  • Bush told the Pope "Thank You, Your Holiness. Awesome Speech"

  • lol oh i like that...that's funny

  • I support Obama... but i would have to agree with you on that one... lmao

  • what would make you imagine that?

  • Nothing but ignorance.

  • haha. probably. SOO true...

  • oh i love her!

  • She is incredibly talented and possesses a powerful voice - enough said. Keep singing Kathleen. We'll continue being in awe of you and your art.

  • We cannot gain anything from trying to deconstruct Ms. Battle because of her short tenure at the Metropolitan Opera; however, we must not discount a gift than the accidents of her being an operatic singer in an institution managed by persons as well of different mind and temperament. It might have been good to her after all to get out from the Met.

  • Diva numero uno deservedly so, be as damn difficult as you need to be,because little hummingbird of perfection, you are incredible. Love the fur, the furbies will be on your shit next for sure.

Music is a gift, we now destroy it with commercialism, gossip, racism, and everything else that creeps into the destruction of pure god given beuaty in our disrepectful jealous hater world.

Except for Joan Sutherland, no one's voice can flow like a slow stream over each note in gloriousity like KB!

  • Wow, that was beautiful.

  • HOW DISRESPECTFUL YOU PEOPLE ARE LEAVING COMMENTS LIKE THAT!

The woman has a god-given gift - just stop the bitching and listen to that voice.

  • Whomever you are, Twiliger123, your pathetic outbursts not only paint you to be an irrascible asshole, it (ironically) shows that YOU are more likely to have been a disgusting bitch more than your wayward comments about Kathleen. Ms. Battle spoke openly about this and it was widely reported that her skin color was, absolutely, one of the factors in her firing.

At the end of the day, you can rant and rave and bitch and moan, but who are you watching on YouTube. KATHLEEN BATTLE! EAT IT!

  • I'm a huge fan of Ms Battle, and I'm sick of hearing about a challenge in her life that happened ten years ago. Let's move on and enjoy her music...she is an amazing voice and performer and I would travel great distances and spent big bucks to see her live.

  • Ms. Kathleen Battle can sing wherever she chooses and she is highly sought-after. Everyone tries to diss her because of one idiot's treatment in the 90's (he later admitted fault in his memoir), but they asked her to sing for THE POPE! Get into that!

  • Wow you are a very bitter and twisted fucker.

  • Aint' that the truth, these hysterical divas who think the woman who Can't Understand Normal Thinking can't do anything wrong...she's a bitch and he's an asshole, CASE CLOSED!

  • because the assholes probably paid her, she wouldn't do it otherwise, she's not Catholic!

  • i luv her voice its never harsh or blatant ...and although shes had her problems she has kept her voice together ....theres no wobble and she never cracks or she even has stopped lifting off the emds of tones as she used to do when she was younger....lets remember she is gettin older as we all are....i applaud her and her singing....such a sweet beautiful voice.....;-)

  • oh get over ur selves...half u princess tinys couldnt hold match to her even at her age...so zip it and stare and listen in awe.

  • if being able to sing better is what gives one the right to criticize, then it is also what gives one the right to praise.

  • people, people! This is f'n prayer!!! can you just for once leave your self grandising critiques aside and appreciate the moment?

  • you mean "appreciate the prayer", don't you?? or else, your comment makes no sense. The people you are criticizing here are unable to appreciate the moment because it is precisely the moment that they find warped.

  • My comment makes perfect sense. You mean to tell me because Ms. battle does not sound like she was 25 is ruining the moment of prayer? please! I think even God would be kinder to her than a self-made critic like yourself.

  • I didn't say anything about the video, dear. I criticized your writing, not the video. Stop spewing your "my diva can do no wrong" venom on every passing stranger. It's in poor taste.

  • I wouldn't expect anything better from you, dear!

  • Don't get me wrong! I'm a Battle fan. I have all of her recordings and appreciate her artistry. Her recordings of Handel's SEMELE and Haydn's DIE JAHRESZEITEN are incredible. However, I believe in offering fair criticism, even if doing so highlight's a singer's faults. No one is perfect. Battle is not as good as she used to be. That's a fact.

  • Listening to some of her older recordings again, I am going to have to agree with you. Her voice is beautiful, but not at its best. I think it was fair crticism now that I look over it again and you explained more what you meant. I thought you were comparing their overall tones. What i had meant to say was comparing Battle's overall singing to Price is irrelevant. However, I now see that that was not your intention, so I withdraw my argument.

  • BlkMuscGent - You're right. No one is perfect. Neither Leontyne or Kathleen or any of us can completely overcome the natural effect of aging on our physical bodies. Neither of them is/were as good as they used to be when they were younger.

I suppose this sort of "fair criticism" (your words) is helpful for some. So be it.

  • who is this lady? never heard of her....I prefer patti labelle's rendition of this song!

  • Last comment was for the page everyone spent expounding a double-standard for female musicians.

  • Wow! Where Kathleen Battle's breath control go? It's not what it used to be. She was struggling to spin out those high, climactic phrases. The effort was visible! Her tone is still pretty, but I thought she did a lot of shallow breathing. Her diction didn't bother me that much. It was THE LORD'S PRAYER for public televsion, not a Carnegie Hall recital.

  • She is nearly sixty here; her voice has deepened, she has been singing pop and jazz so her technique and European diction has been suspended for several years. Take all that into account with singers who limit themselves only to the European repertoire and are much younger.

  • So, she's just out of practice, right? :)

  • In most cases, age alters us, especially this late in a person's lifetime. Would you ask Leontyne Price (or any great singer), at the voice she had at 60, if she were out of practice, knowing full well that the body changes with age, even if she doesn't sound the same. That question might have been reasonable if she were in her 20s, 30s, and 40s. But it seems a little petty now that she is 60.

  • Listen to 1995's So Many Stars. Is Price with her Tanheuser technique capable of something that rhythmic and soulstiring?

  • Does President Bush have ADHD? Why can't he be still during the singing of the Lord's Prayer?

  • lmao

  • You are people without souls! Amen.

  • Vicarius Filii Dei=666

  • Actually, I don't know where you've been the last few years, but Jessye Norman has lost well over 100 pounds. She isn't nearly as heavy anymore, and I'm sure she is much healthier.

  • Her voice sounds darker and richer than it was in the 90s...that's definite. It's kinda like Leontyne. Her voice got darker and heavier over the years but her upper register held up remarkably well. She is 81 and can still hit a high b-flat. Kathleen is getting up there and it is only natural for her voice to change.

  • Battle is no Price. Price's singing technique, with the exception of her agility, is superior to Battle's. When Battle was at her vocal peak, she was spreading on high Cs, Ds, and E flats, something Price NEVER did. Price's high notes always had that coveted cover. Battle's voice, to me at least, hasn't darkened that much. She is a light lyric soprano,; this voice type rarely changes significantly with age.

  • Price was a Spinto Soprano and Battle is a Soubrette/Lyric/Coluratura. Their tones are in totally different Fachs, so they cannot really be comparaed

  • A soprano is a soprano is a soprano. Battle's range was a little short for her voice type. Price's range, on the other hand, was wider than one would expect for her voice type. Consider other spinto sopranos, such as Caballe and Vaness. They could NEVER touch Price's high notes. Price commanded full-throated, juicy high D's and E's; Caballe and Vaness did not. Battle sang high D's and Es too. But they were wide and not as controlled as Price's. But, for Battle's voice type, they should've been.

  • LOL, that is not nice. I saw her in person in April and yes, she is not skinny as she was in 1990 but not NEARLY as big as Norman. Kathy has the normal body of a 60 year old. She looks great for her age.

  • why can't they both just be beautiful talented women? Jessye Norman is big. but that is only one of her qualities. She is educated, she is beautiful, she is talented, she is kind, etc etc...and all you can talk about is size?

  • why is she singing "heaven" it sounds so horrible, raw, and nasal, poor diction on the part of a professional, she should know better to pronounce the word "heavon"

  • That's why you're up on that stage singing, and not her, because you know what you're talking about, right?

    Oh, wait--

  • EAT A DICK BITCH ! Yeah I know what am talking about because I have been on stage many a times performing classical music, and anyone with a basic musical background knows what is good diction in singing....

  • Right, because anyone can claim to be anything and can claim to have done anything over the internet, and that automatically makes it true.

Also, your first comment proves how seriously you should be taken. "Eat a dick bitch!"? Very mature.

I'm also a Classically Trained singer, but I also know that certain things relating to diction change depending on what you're singing. Any person with a basic musical background would know that.

Let the professionals be the professionals. :)

  • Yeah pretty much the same way you can claim to be a classically trained singer over the internet. Like I said diction is diction, there is no place in classical music for bad diction. So maybe you should quit voice lessons in your shower and seek professional help, if that would even make a difference, because you seem pretty thick.

like I said before, that was bad diction on the part of Mrs. Battle and thats my opinion and if you dont like EAT A DICK BITCH !!!

  • AWESOME

  • Yes, ElCapitan. Posting Placido's video is the best comment.

    Amen.

  • Boy does she breathe a lot. Always has. Nice to see this, though...didn't know she did it.

  • I love this woman! She's got a beatiful instrument but she's such a diva!

  • why in the name of Zeus is she singing for him?

  • I've been a fan of Ms. Battle's for over 20 years. I adore her artistry and seeing her live as I have at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center and in countless Galas and Recitals all over the world. The MET did us a favor. She then took her gift all over the world. I anxiously anticipate her next recital, gala or new cd recording. Your fans LOVE and ADORE you Ms. Battle. Please continue to share your gift with us as you did with the Pope and the President.

  • To set the record straight, Ms. Battle was not the first soprano fired from the MET. The first that I am aware of is Maria Callas who was fired in 1959 from the MET. She was replaced by Leopoldine "Leonie" Rysanek during a production of Lady Macbeth.

  • No, my dear freinds, Let me set the misleading public straight. Maria Callas was never fired from the Met,and was never refused by Edward Johnson in 1947. she refused a Beginners work contract. It is said La Scala fired her too. Lie!!!!!!!!!!!!.I personally witness Miss Battle RUDNESS in Jamaica May 21 1999.she was 2 hours late for the banquet in her honour, she walk in looked around for 5 seconds and walk right out.but the next day she have a mouth on the ground performance, she was WONDERFUL.

  • I worked at the Met when she was fired and it was totally deserved, she was a bipolar bitch to work with and made everyone around her miserable with her demanding certain rehearsal times then arriving hours late or not showing up at all, screaming at everyone and having people "fired" regularly! We knew it wouldn't ruin her career, but what gets me is all of you condoning her bad behavior because she's a great singer. That's wrong, if she did what she's done to others to you you wouldn't feel

  • the same. I love her as a singer and performer, but she is out of control when it comes to her work ethic, professionalism and graciousness. San Francisco Opera made T-Shirts saying "I survived the Battle" after her run with them, all of you over zealous fans who think she can do no wrong make me want to hurl!

  • How about the atrocious behavior of Beethoven? Do all of you promise to never sing or listen to a single note of his music ever again? Thought so.

  • No!!! No!!!. Let me hasten to correct you.

The Met fired her too late, she should have been taken to a Hospital for help. poor woman she was suffering for a rear sickness call RUDNESS!!!!.

So happy when they fired the bitch!!!!!!!!!.

Personally i do not like her, what she can do as an artist, i admire alot.

  • She has a problem that goes beyond rudeness, seeing it every day on an ongoing basis before she was fired proved it. Her mood swings and temper tantrums were beyond being rude, she's bipolar in my book, but being the pseudo-diva she is she'd never sdmit to it!

  • fired her? what happened?

  • She was fired for unprofessional behavior back in 1994 when I worked at the Met, she was bi-polar if you want my opinion with her rants, tantrums and she would demand certain rehearsal times then either show up hours late or not at all! She's a bitch, plain and simple!

  • It's always idiots like this that lead to the problem. She was, in 1994, a BLACK Opera singer who was dealing with the over-aggressive direction of a WHITE MALE director who attempted to stifle her creative ability. When she protested, she was accused of being difficult and being a bitch. She did the same shit that Maria Callas did, but they wouldn't call her a "bitch," only "the best." Interesting how that works.

  • Someone sounds a little upset. How immature! You are attempting to sully the name of a woman who has, already, dealt with the media and their inquiries, and has even been exonerated by the man who fired her! WHO ARE YOU? Are you some producer, manager, or personof import with whom we should concern ourselves? NO! You're some angry person who not only attacked Ms. Battle, but the Pope, too. YOU ARE OF NO CONSEQUENCE!

  • Interesting string and the only thing unbalanced and unstable here is you, twillinger123. If you were less immoderate with your expletives, perhaps Ms. Battle would share with you some of her meds - you obviously need them more than she does. Finally, it is widely known that profanity is merely a crutch for inarticulate assholes.

  • Joker, instead of believing the assanine rants of a childish individual, PLEASE read the news articles about this and find out what happened from ALL SIDES. There are, usually, three sides to every story: his, hers, and the truth; and the truth is usually the hardest to come by. This is made even worse when so-called "bystanders" offer gossip. This woman is an incredible talent and is well-respected.

  • And who are you??? Nothing but an uber out of control fan who obviously doesn't practice what they preach by hearing all sides, Cuntleen Battle hasn't dealt with anyone regarding this, only to say she wasn't aware she was acting unprofessionally, which is a crock of shit. She is an incredible talent and well respected as a singer, but as a person she is absolutely not, she is well know for her tirades. San Fransico Opera even made T-shirts saying "I survived the Battle" after she left!

  • Well ok, I don't know much about her. I'm more of a Jessye fan. When I hear about these "divas" going off, I don't get surprised. But I'd never heard of one getting fired from the Met....

  • She got fired after she had a disagreement with her director. He labeled her as "difficult," but in his memoir mentions that he was new to the job and seeking to gain respect and she was a casualty of his insecurity. It is even widely known that he showed favoritism to his favorite singers (Renee Fleming, Placido Domingo).

It is apparent that this Twiliger person has a personal vendetta against a woman who is regarded as one of the best American opera singers alive.

  • That's what makes her so legendary! My institution worked with her as she sung with the choir a lot and she was wonderful to our students, but something else to her staff; however, people adore her. It's interesting that a demanding woman is called a bitch, but a demanding man is guiding his career! Hmmmm.

  • So someone who creates unnecessary drama and reeks havoc wherever she goes is guiding her career? You're delusional...that is why she rarely performs in public and has such a great recording career, she only abuses the recording staff, LMAO. I wouldn't be proud too much of singing for a former Nazi who condones child abuse, though, I'm not Catholic so I don't think of the Pope as God, he's just a man...

  • What the hell are you rambling about... Onward Ms. Battle! I see as much as you have to say about her...you are still listening to her performances! Get over yourself and her!

  • The arrangement they gave the wonderful Ms. Battle was simply awful. The Christian tradition has so many more beautifully arranged versions of the Our Father than this one. And to top it off, this is the Protestant version!

  • Absolutely amazing!

  • What a spectacular voice Kathleen Battle has. Nice to see her performing publicly again.

  • Her voice has blossomed so much. She has so much warmth in her tone.

  • Angie, Angie, Angie: you've got to be kidding.

  • This is what the angels in heaven sound like.

  • How would you know, are you dead? LMAO!!!!

  • Just amazing;Kathleen is in incredible fresh voice to her age,top notes keep same silver quality ever.Absolutely sublime.

  • Ratzy was obviously enjoying it, and so he should, being the cultured man he is... the other guy, well, let's put aside any comments on him. Five stars.

  • Absolutely heavenly!!

You can see how pleased the Holy Father is

    Her voice is truly breathtaking!

  • Just as musical as I remembered her to be. She still has that innate ability to speak directly to the listener through her music.

  • Beautifully moving.

  • /watch?v=q3-bD9bPAek

  • /watch?v=q3-bD9bPAek

  • A very moving performance (despite the uncontrollable atmosphere) from an expert artist.

Thank you, so much, for posting this gem.

  • Agree with you Stephan, moving performance!

it's not easy for singing outdoor & thank you for sharing this wonderful video with me. :)

BTW have you notice that our POP is enjoying the performance but Bush is so uneasy & has no patience at all. If he were listening to God, he would withdraw the troop home soon!

  • This performance was only three days after her triumphant return to Carnegie Hall. I had the great pleasure of seeing Miss Battle live in Austin, Texas on April 7th, and it was by far the most amazing experience I've ever had. She sang beautifully, and was gracious enough to sign autographs for hours after the performance. What a gift this woman possesses. Brava, diva!

  • Kathleen Battle can forever "move mountains"

  • Possibly the best American Soprano voice ever, but it is such a shame that she wrecked her career with a poor Diva attitude. Her rendition of the lord's prayer is absolutely brilliant.

  • Couldn't resist getting a dig in, eh? So you don't think envy had anything to do with her dismissal? She is not the first opera "diva" and she certainly won't be the last.

  • Really, a dig?... envy? How about she was the first soprano to be fired from The NYC Metropolitan Opera House in 1994 during rehersals for the Production of Donizetti's La fille du regiment, for un professional conduct. Come and think of it no one has been fired from this opera house certainly in the last 25 years that I have followed opera. Its her own imbecilty that caused her downfall not envy... summerof74(nice nik:-))

  • Oh shut up you bitter old queen, why don't you just appreciate a good voice when you hear one instead of bitching about her like you know her.

  • The person responsible for that termination has expressed regrets for it.

  • Kathy could buy and sell you 50 times over. Trust losing that Met gig did very little damage to her wallet and she STILL sings better at her age then some of those foreign hacks they prop up on stage. LOL!

  • Wow! The voice is still beautiful. I wasn't crazy about the arrangement--too disjointed. And she seemed to lack any real breath support, perhaps it was the occasion. It's still good to see and hear her again after all this time.

  • Nothing but goosebumps-- Kathleen certainly did not disappoint and definitely showcased a uniquely American talent.
