So interesting how the first song of this set is just over a minute, really only consists of one arc, yet feels much more satisfying and complex. Webern was an incredible song writer!

This written music is incredibly spartian and sparing in every way--chords, counterpoint, use of rhythms, voice range for each independent work, on and on. Compare that to Arnold Schoenberg's early songs, or Alban Berg's.
