This seems to be a mix of the original R-Type, and Interpose by Webfoot games. Check out on video google search, interpose dos, and you can see it. or download it, i believe at "home of the underdogs" website
Yes its a definite homage to those games and a few others - R-Type mainly though of course, its style, the charged laser and look of the options.. I must say I turned my nose up at it a little initially due to is WAY retro look - once you get into it though its really good, a real challenge.
I'd love to see you upload more AES videos. Not many have the AES version and Id like to see all the cutscenes inbetween stages and the supposed intro.
How were the Neo Geo ports of Viewpoint, Super Baseball 2020, and Samurai Shodown almost arcade perfect??!! They are the arcades games, they're not ports. Jesus, get your facts straight retard.
uhhh, yes, the Genesis had a Z80, that's how the Master System converter worked: by accessing the Z80 directly. A Genesis with Sega CD (at least on paper) had the same potential processing power as the Neo Geo, though lacked the additional graphics and audio chips. The Neo Geo ports of Viewpoint, Super Baseball 2020, and Samurai Shodown were almost arcade perfect spare for slowdown at intense points in the latter two. The Genesis was indeed the poor man's Neo Geo.
NEO-GEO MVS/AES (and NeoCD) was an arcade-quality 16-bit machine (the "24-bit" was just PR Hype) with more raw graphics power than Genesis, TurboGrafx and SNES combined.
12.5 MHz 68000 + 4 MHz Z-80 processors
(same CPU config as Genesis, but faster).
what made the difference was the graphics & audio chipsets.
4096 colors on-screen out of a color palette of 65,536. upto 380 sprites on-screen at once
All right, Junior, knock it off. Some people design video games as a form of artistic expression... not everybody's in the industry to milk every last dime from Madden or that stupid orange ninja Naruto or whatever happens to be the current fad of the moment. If people want to make games for the Dreamcast, I say let 'em.
To miiwii93: Actually, this was originally made for Neo Geo AES and the footage shown is from that version, not Dreamcast. The AES (1990) and the arcade version of it, the MVS (1989), lasted all the way to 2004. And in case you didn't know, Sega officially still allowes games to be made for the Dreamcast, they just don't licence them anymore.
And miiwii93, you might ask "then why for the Neo Geo", well, Neo Geo was a 2D powerhouse, when it was released and due to that it was, taking the inlation of money into account, more expensive than PS3 is today. Many old school gamers like it a lot and I'm no exception. The fact that it uses cartridges, very big cartridges both memory and physical sizewize, only ads to the charm. One more thing, only 60 Last Hope AES cartridges were ever produced.

OOH! That sounds promising. Can ya give me someplace to start? I'm hoping you have footage of Stage 6(the last level).

Could you please upload videos of all the stages in this version of Last Hope?

This is an exact copy of level 2 of R Type on the snes. From the stage design to the boss (who resembles Zaphtom in the snes version).
AEF091 3 years ago
Um, no, I played Super R-Type, and the Level really isn't an exact copy, though it is similar. Also the boss isn't exactly similar either.

Its a great game.Playing it reminded me of some oldschool R-Type action but with better graphics. The music was the best part, catchy beat.

this game wouldn't have gone well with Berne Stolar

Paying $500 for the Neo version is ridiculous. It's still a quality balls hard game, so it's fully worth picking up for the Dreamcast.

I think that AiCom's Pulstar for NEO-GEO, released in 1995, was more impressive than Last Hope.
Pulstar was a "spiritual R-Type 4".
some ex-Irem developers worked at AiCom from what I've read.
Last Hope doesn't seem to capture the R-Type 'feel' as well as Pulstar did.
airraideagle 4 years ago 2
Well, yeah, but this an independent title. That makes it pretty impressive by my standards.

why is it stupid? the console is in stores in japan, and the game was made for this market.

i'm pretty sure i've seen these same enemies, powerups and game mechanics somewhere before...?
seriously this must be a joke, no? r-type already happened.

did you emulate this game or did you buy it? because I saw this game a few months back on Ebay for a high price.

The Dreamcast still has small development teams outside of the States.

Meh, it's no Under Defeat. :( Looks like an R-Type ripoff.
fuzzstrat 5 years ago
Those are rather high expectations for a homebrew development team, don't you think?
TheGameroomBlitz 4 years ago
It may not have the style of R-Type and the music sounds straight from the 80s, but for a homebrew it's pretty good.
LoneSageR 5 years ago
LoneSageR, I agree. Except for the music part, beeing a fan of the 80s synth music I actually like it :)
