  • @omgubuntu Is this better/faster than Windows XP? Would you recommend replacing XP with Ubuntu?

  • @SniperNator305 Sure. I switched to Ubuntu last year, my laptop used to be a damn wreck, could not do anything with it. Ubuntu is just great, an Apple is nothing better in my opinion.

  • @supertricheco Thanks! Yeah, Ubuntu and snow leopard are not that far from the same, seeing as Snow Leopard/Lion and Ubuntu are both lightweight OS's that are fast and elegant. XP really isn't any of those, and Windows 7 is a good option, but I really don't want to buy another OS after upgrading from Vista(worse one.) And since that is narrowed down, we can both see that Ubuntu is not only as great as apple(if not better), BUT it FREE!! Awesome!! Thanks for replying, guess I now know what to do!

  • @lavaboy23, what you mean you have to find a way to locate program ? you can do whereis nameofaprogram, it will show you the location of the program, or you can just use the icon, press the window key will quickly bring up the search bar, type your program name and enter, it will run for you

  • Its freakinggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg sweet lol I used Ubuntu a year ago on my last laptop and worked perfectly. But the laptop is dead and i gotten a new one but ubuntu never supported it well (hardware) until now! I love it. I just have to find a way to locate Programs.....

  • @lavaboy23 the top icon lets you search programs.

  • were can you get it

  • @justinfroot ubuntu(dot)com. its free

  • Please use your efforts to get more hardware to work instead of this useless Unity and Gwibber. When will my usb WIFI be supported?!

  • @jorge44m Did you try Ndiswrapper?

  • WHEN'S THE RELEASE DATE ????????

  • Unity sucks ass ..Bring back Gnome .... I refuse to use it n ll refuse to it..... and I m this close to switch to Fedora instead....

  • @mohrukh - Read this attentively - I using Gnome 3 , about 4 month - it looks good . But when I try Unity , and customize it a little ( 1)shrink icons to smalest size on panel - 2) make top panel almost transparent - 4) Eliminate the spaces beetwen virtual desctops , so there no space ) , that was a miracle ,UNITY Just Awesome thing that replace my Windows 7 ,,, even if i try to use linux , windows always was my primary OS, But I try Unity and now I work only on Ubuntu with Unity desctop.

  • @SERIOUSRONAN Dude I hav been using ubuntu for years... I lov havng shortcuts in my panel.... All I need in my computer is my terminal,my programming IDES and vlc player..I dunt need big gigantic icons...Anyways I know this is argumentative..its a matter of tast..Most of Ubuntu audience r8 now r geeks who lov tinkering n playng in thier commandline..they dunt need windows7 like GUI..If ubuntu target windows guys ubuntu users will mov to Fedora r Arch Linux..

  • @mohrukh Then install Gnome. You can do that.

  • all that is useless. and difficult. and weird. and stupid...

  • Guys... when you use unity, do you need to click the application with your mouse to open it? or does pressing enter starts the topmost application?

  • @distortedvideo

This Unity is based on Gnome 3. You're thinking of Gnome Shell.

  • For the next version of Ubuntu (12.04), Unity launcher should be movible!!! Thumbs up if you agree so Ubuntu developers can see.

  • lmao @ "bee-tuh"

  • OMG! Ubuntu! whoaaaaaaaaaaaa........... me like ubuntu, or not? >:)

  • Why cant Unity just organize there software by category like in Gnome2? That the only thing really keeping me from switching.

  • (I know that I can install synaptic on U11.10)

  • FYI they also took the much faster synaptic package manager out, just to annoy people who already used to use debian/ubuntu and had synaptic as there nifty little software manager.. (me)

See I am moving to Fedora because of these things. It's just going in the wrong direction with this way of installing applications on Ubuntu.

  • Snappy Software Center? Are you kidding me?

My ULV 1.2 Ghz C2D is getting it's ass wooped by this pathetic piece of software. WAY to heavy for the actual capabilities as for ALL the editions of Software Center..

it sucks and needs to be removed and replaced with a fast and easy-to-use application.

    Nuff said..

  • 

  • stupid and gay!! Fak ju and jor ubuntu and fak joj mader on ubuntu!!!

  • wow. Looks like Unity has some nice-looking changes. I haven't used windows on my system in almost a year. Not missing it, and it looks like I'm solidified on Linux even more.

  • How do you record your voice with XVidCap

  • @joshbot360 I record the audio and video separately, then put them together in edit. It's easier.

  • ugh it doesn't all gaming lol enyou Ubuntu

  • whats the system requirement?

  • @1nirvanaseeker any computer will run it, trust me

  • Very nice short and sharp review. I love your English!

  • i tried using ubuntu a year ago..i turned me down because of the very poor video playback capabilities. it really eats up resources and slows down the computer. and adobe flash player isn't quite well yet. i hope all this is fixed in this coming 11.10

  • @paulgnc24 what os do you run to make you think that ubuntu is the resource hog? It's probably one of the fastest os's out there if you give it a different desktop manager like lxde or something.

  • @ztoben76 Hey, Give Mandriva a go, then you will see how much resources Ubuntu uses in comparison.

  • id love to dual boot with 11.10. my gaming comp is not usable atm and my gfs lappy doesnt have enough hdd space to make me feel comfortable partitioning it.

  • it's fucking awesome, can't waiting for final 11.10 ;D

  • i need some wootah

  • @Ne0nLiteZ haha english people talk funny

  • Poor old Ubuntu. It will never 'take over' the Desktop, as they can't make their minds up what to settle on for the 'default application' for any one task. The release cycle is *way* too short, which means inherent (and guaranteed) bugs and instability.

Before I am flamed, I use Ubuntu daily, and love it, but unlike many, I am a *realist*, and if that upsets some, alas, I apologise.

    (awaits reactionary fanboy retort)

  • @unlokia hi, well I'm not a fanboy, but just a small point. Ubuntu has also got LTS, so if you prefer a more, so to say, windows like release cycle, LTS releases are supported for three years. that's all, i won't attack you haha xD

  • @jamsinux Well, LTS also means that most of your applications are NEVER up to date, really. I don't want Firefox 3.6 or whatever, kill me for it.

@unlokia agreed, Ubuntu will never take over the desktop, but in the end, Ubuntu is a fanboy distro. If they lose their fans, they lose their edge, and they will die out. Linux Mint is grabbing all the people fleeing from Ubuntu currently. It's not about Ubuntu, and it never was; The true player is Debian, and Ubuntu's success is Debian's success.

  • I want gnome 3 like empathy notifications !!!!!

  • 10.10 is the best. :)

  • What's the resolution of your screen?

  • It's awesome.

  • So far, I think it looks and will be amazing!

  • I gave up on ubuntu 2 years ago. But this vid makes me to re-think my decision, especially due to integration with Thunderbirid.

  • Zapowiada się fajnie. W 11.04 brakowało mi tej lekkości jaką ma aero. Tutaj wygląda to troche inaczej

  • seriously, why even bother about unity. even gnome fucked it up. I have switched to xfce. not as good as old gnome, but still better than gnome 3.

  • I love ubuntu but I can't use it. Software developers don't support it, and if they do they do a bad job at it, because they don't invest any money.

  • @bv90andy As much as I know, Ubuntu was one of the best development platform ever available for software developers, programmers, and computer scientists. There is always GNU C/C++ compiler installed by default, and you could get a dozens of useful applications, IDEs and hundreds of other useful tools for software developers. It is even much easier to develop softwares in Ubuntu than in Windows, as most of the tools you need are free.

  • @thetruehacker1111 Well, yeah. Picking Ubuntu over Windows if you're a developer or Computer Scientist is kind of a no-brainer really (unless your business is working with C#, Visual Studio, etc).

Your comparison is more fair against Mac OSX I believe, given both have more commonalities since they are both from the Unix family tree.

  • @JoseWanKenobi I am taking a Computer Science Engineering course at my university, and I agree that switching to Ubuntu was one of the best decisions I made while I was there. The school's official programming environment is Red Hat Linux, and I know several people who also use various Linux distros on their own machines. It really is the programmer's best friend. :)

  • @WarriorIng64 Yes, by the time you understand Linux true power, you will also know how easy it is to channel your programming skill. There are a lot of tools available for you to assist your task in learning computer science. Linux is free & flexible, it gives you the ability to control or even program the entire operating system, making knowledge of computer science in whatever ways you like. I myself, am a computer programmer too, & I found Linux very much suited to my programming taste.

  • @JoseWanKenobi Yes, in fact, using Microsoft tools for programming such as Visual Studio always make me feel the pain, as they're not cheap, and there is this so called ".NET" which forces every single Microsoft-depended programmers to embrace it. Honestly, I don't like .NET Framework. It is heavy and it is quiet difficult to master using it. Every program that you write will be dependent on it. Meaning that if you don't have a computer using .NET Framework, you are screwed.

  • @thetruehacker1111 yea, but you still need the boss of a company convinced that they will get more costumers (more money) from creating a linux application then from making a newer version for Windows. Like with yahoo mess or skype. Or most games out there,.. and since linux is used by such a small % the numbers always say that you should better invest in windows.

  • @bv90andy Hm. As a matter of fact, you're right that there is no Adobe Acrobat Suite for Linux, and as much as I know, less than 10% of games are actually written for Linux. Some of them are written for Windows, then ported to Linux. Many software companies still did not embrace Linux. Some of them don't even realize that Linux is there. Many printers and other hardware still have difficulties working on Linux. My former high school, for example, had all computers use Windows.

  • @bv90andy For software developers to be able to understand the benefit of making applications for Linux, they will have to understand that money should not be their first concern. If they could have a deeper understanding about the philosophy of Linux, the way it was implemented, the way it was made safe to every of its users, with high performance, speed, security with less viruses available.. They should have at least tried to see from these points. Unfortunately, they don't and that is sad.

  • This (Unity) looks no different then it did when I got rid of it for good on 11.04 and put on GNOME 3. Seriously. It looks the same. It is just a massive stumbling block and very cumbersome when trying to use it. I dont know why ppl like it so much. To me, Gnome 3 makes more sense the way it is laid out and a lot faster to get things done. Plain and simple.

  • Over 8000 views in 2 days, great job. :D

  • looks promising.. is there any chance to turn back to classic desktop?

  • @mweldan Either install GNOME Shell and switch on Fallback mode, or try the Mate GNOME 2 fork.

  • @WarriorIng64 Thank you. yes found that we can switch to 'classic' desktop. hehe

  • Lets hope unity and gnome 3 stop being useless in the coming releases.

  • This looks very nice, i like it much more than 11.04. Ubuntu is going to be very stylish.

  • Unity is starting to look pretty good, it looks more polished than 11.04

As for you Unity haters, compare unity in 10.10 and 11.04 or even 11.10

    its coming along fairly nicely

  • I installed Gnome Shell on 11.10 and it just appears as an alternate option on the display manager login... so there is the option to use gnome shell easily and turn off/on ably... it feels a bit more "complete" than Unity the last time I ran Unity... but I do miss some of the "ubuntu specific" stuff like the sound control menus and stuff... I really hope unity can get it together.

  • Unity sucks...

  • I will have to do an overview of the beta myself.... stay tuned :D

  • I'm still not sure about the dash-open button in the actual sidebar.. I liked it up there :( Aah well, I guess I'll see how it works once I find the time to install it

  • NA still a perversion to me of gnome 3

  • Unity is dead to me, I want a traditional desktop not a giant iPad interface.. Fuck this shit.

  • please contact me if you require any music for your videos

  • It would be cool to hibernate applications instead of closing them like mac does with some applications ( finder) , that'll make ubuntu feel faster

  • Unity is starting to look very interesting! Skipped 11.04 and want to Linux Mint because Unity didn't really feel completed.. but now I think I'll return to Ubuntu once again! Also, love the new Software Centre.. :D

  • nice intro u have such a macho voice :p

  • @madjunir Exactly man. It's kinda like a more masculine Arnold Schwarzenegger! =D

    hehe :)

  • looks good.

  • I like the new login screen.

  • Thanks a lot for this, new features and changes in design keep showing up all the time so it was nice with an overview. I am very excited for 11.10, even my mom could use this lol

  • It is a great version... crazy for Unity2D...!

  • What's is better? Fresh install or upgrade when this version is ready? :)

    anyway, great preview, thanks :D

  • @ZlateWay - Fresh install.

  • @ZlateWay fresh install, means clean start. no cloging and things that might slow you down + you get to experience how the new stock version is. upgrade, means easier, you keep all settings in programs, you don't have to reinstall all applications you may use and its not really bad at all. So thats my pros and cons, the choice is up to you. What is better depends on what you consider important.

  • @ZlateWay Just updating like you normally would, would give you the latest versions of the packages at the release date. You can always reinstall if you want to be sure though. :P

  • Very cool, cant wait. thanks for the preview.

  • Have they fixed menu for changing volume?

  • Thank you

  • Thanks dave for the preview! Can't wait for the final release!
