I usually don´t jerk around but what I find really annoying is all these guys asking for bloody tabs. Here are these gifted people, showing what you got to do straight in your face, but you´re still asking for your silly tabs. Maybe you should ask for someone putting your fingers at the right place, so you got nothing to do atall. Seems your totally lost without someone chewing the stuff for you. Tabs are for nerds, Malmsteemidiots, goandbegyourmamaformercy!
Probably my fave cover on youtube - props to you m"man!
1) What's incredible is when you think about it that Hendrix wrote the song & was most likely just flowing with that rich vocabulary of chord inversions, voicing / add ons & comps...as he was singing it to himself & comping these jazz / gospel / blues / country chord voicing....BOGGLES THE MIND TALENT.
Like a fluent musical conversation.
2) did U learn from the record or tabs?
3) The black crowes was influenced by the end part
@novanine9 Thank you! I learned mostly by tab, but figured out some inaccuracies by ear. You know the solo guitar, demo version? I took mainly the licks from that version (although not much different) and applied them to the song structure of the album version. And I love Hendrix's chord melody style; I feel it's the highlight of his innovations. I want to explore that style more in my own writing, but with a different feel. Frusciante has added to the style well, too, I think.
@88lopez4music It took quite an effort to learn how to play and sing the song simultaneously; a lot of acute attention to how the vocal rhythms relate to the guitar playing.
@88lopez4music Ahh...I didn't think my singing was that great in this cover; I hit the right notes mostly, but with some strain. Developing a good voice is something I need to work on myself.
But as for hitting notes accurately—maybe you could train yourself by imitating a melody played on the guitar. Also just belt out some songs when you're alone or whatever while listening to them, but concentrate on hitting the notes. If you can't find the vocal note with your voice, find it on the guitar.
@GarrettWadeD ...then you can match your vocals to the note that you found on the guitar. This often helps me to find the exact vocal notes. Of course, you have to be keen on finding notes by ear.
@GarrettWadeD Good advice thank you, I tried doing that, that helps in that way to look at it. But it is hard to play the notes perfectly while singing still, i keep forgeting to play a certain part or a play something over. ha practice makes perfect though.
@GarrettWadeD not 'white' at all dude. It's unique for obvious reasons.....someone who is not Hendrix performed it. It takes real talent to play this AND sing. It's pretty tough to play so many fills while keeping your vocal melody on point. And the fills had lots of techniques going on, I mean, lotsa trills, chord slides, rapid (sometimes unusual) chord changes and being Hendrix, the strum isnt a typical 4/4 thing. So......well done dude ^_^
not bad..........a little too "white" and mechanical sounding, but he can't help it..........he was born that way........bwa ha ha.....nice weed leaf dude
@bubbabubbabooba Pfff...Yeah, okay. Do you mind elaborating a bit on how this cover is too "white"? I mean, sure, I have a white voice, but the vibe of the song isn't watered down my playing. There is less instruments than on the album version, though, so the album version paints a better picture in that regard.
But hey, the only other recording I've found of anyone, including Hendrix, playing and singing this song simultaneously is John Mayer's cover, and that one is FAR more "white".
@GarrettWadeD oh I'm just joking a bit. It just sounds a bit too clean compared to Jimi's versions. Oh no Mayer covers this tune? I can't stand that guy because of his lame versions of Jimi's, SRV's and Van Halens tunes. I'm at total war on youtube with his "followers" who think he's so great, when to me he's unoriginal and very mediocre. You definately do a better job than Mayer.
@bubbabubbabooba I want to record another version with a second track, in which I'll play flute arrangements of Jimi's leads. That will surely convey the vibe more.
I just couldn't wait to upload what I can play so far, though, because there's no other video of anyone singing and playing this song.
John Mayer is indeed a mediocre musician. It's ridiculous that anyone would call him a blues guitarist, but I guess compared to all the other idiotic modern music his music seems like blues?
Thats pretty. I learnt the first minute of it. I always thought it was the prettiest song I could ever play on guitar. Sadly I forgot it :(. It sounded so much better if you get it on Electric guitar with the echo effect Hendrix used. Love it man.

This is great! To play it on acoustic too!
You bring a modern feel to it while staying true to Jimi's great guitar figures that he used on his ballads.
