  • Enjoyed this video.

Found registration numbers LSJ 480 and WMJ 837 no longer exist so it looks like these scooters have not remained in preservation.

  • @TriflingCircle Hi Gordon. Thanks for your interest and the investigation. My original Dayton I dont believe survived past my original ownership, but I am surprised to hear that the restored one is no longer around. It eventually went to a real enthusiast t Accidents can happen i suppose even to cared for classics.

  • To bad 5:57 is a photoshop

  • Lovely video Mike, with perfect music too. Loved the deep red colour of the finished model. Well done....Tim.

  • @siobhan104 Hi Tim.very kind of you to say so!

  • Hey :) Was just talking to my dad in New Zealand and some how we got on to the subject of the Dayton Albatross. He's 60 something now and used to ride one here in England when he was younger. I wonder how many there are in operation these days? Great to see that you've picked one up TheMst30 - will be a special vehicle to keep in action, especially if you can get the thing riding like it used to. Thanks for the video :)

  • @guybrownbarnett I think most past owners remember the Albatross with affection. It gave the rider protection against road dirt and produced, at least in the final designs, a stylish machine. It also gave good and satisfying performance. I believe there are about 30 left today. There are several photos of them in my book (see my home page). Your Father may well enjoy a copy for Christmas!

  • Great video!!!!! good to see another albatross, just picked one up my self to do up. Cant wait to get her on the road!!!!!!

  • @TheMst30 Great that another will be saved! Its a real classic British scooter with a very satisfying performance and engine noise!

  • @ADMIRALSCORNER Hi Mike. What beautiful evocative memories your slides bring to mind. You must have had wonderful times with the original Albatross. At the moment I have 2 royal enfields; A 350 & a 406 diesel conversion. I've seen a 250 Maicoletta & a restored Albatross for sale which I would part exchange the 350 for. The Albatross is a much rarer beast of course. What is the HP / performance of the 250 Villiers please? Regards, John.

  • @hiyadroogs Great to meet another fan! I hope all goes well with the deal. You will find some spare parts are available via the Vintage Motor Scooter Club. The top man who runs it, has several Daytons himself, probably more than anyone else anywhere!. Officially the Villiers 250cc twin was rated at 15 bhp and the early single 224cc at 9.4 bhp. The 250 cc single was in between.. The twin could cruise at 60 mph.

  • @ADMIRALSCORNER Thanks Mike.

  • Very very nice scooter, and great video.

    Greetings from Greece.

  • @Rousmak Hello and thank you! , It's nice to hear from you!

  • a truly great video, part of the appeal of old scooters is guessing what history they have, what stories, and your video shows some of these, very enjoyable viewing, thanks for making it !

  • @roughchippy Thanks! I am glad i kept the photos to remind me of things I enjoyed.

  • I thought that mopeds were more skeletal in those days.

  • In those days mopeds were very basic with very little bodywork. They also had pedals as well as small engines! Scooters on the other hand had larger engines and did have protective and stylish bodywork.Strangely in later years the term moped began to be used to include scooters which in their original form were dying out.

  • You have an absolutely marvellous collection of photographs here, and a superb job of the restoration.

A very well done to you..!!

    Thanks for posting

  • Thanks! It was good to be able to fit together old slides, prints and digital photos to tell at least part of the story!

  • As usual, very interesting !
