This is so sad, because it is true. Girls today, almost no matter what, see themselves in a mirror and compare themself to a model of some sort and then start calling themselves ugly and useless. As this shows, over time, they try and become more and more like models to look better. The more and more they try, as others have already stated, the more it is hurting them physically and mentally. Some girls have even gotten to the point where they kill themself by suicide or starvation.
this to me is how girls are influenced by television and try to imitate all they see, such as impossibly thin models, photoshopped magazine stars and such, they keep pushing and pushing themselves to get closer and closer to what they see, but the closer they get, the harder it is to achieve the impossible, so they end up killing themselves over it because they truly believe that being the way they see celebrities and tv stars is the only way to live happily.
the media, TV, magazines that show us celebrities that are beautiful. When we see them we try to become like them, but in the process, convince ourselves we are hideous. So we put on the makeup, the lipstick, eye liner and blush to make ourselves look exactly like them. But when we try to do that, we only realise how much we are not like them. So we try even harder, perhaps going through anorexia, to be like them. Untill we've destroyed outselves completely.
Thanks for sharing flybreath. My idea of a Horror Movie that. lol So many expectations, images, forced upon us. Takes us a long time to feel comfortable in our own skin.
hey YOU should think about why the f&%¤ck this video was made! do you think some guy just thought like "ahah ima make a video about a robot thats sad :D" :P no i dont think so, you have no sense of art whatsoever there is a meaning of this you idiot. its symbolic, it's gonna make you think about how you cant be someone you was'nt meant to be you gotta be yourself and stop trying to fit in. and the maker did a f"#%n great job. Let people have their own opinions and stop commenting.
I never complained on the art, that clip is wicked! And if you wanna know I have a great sense of art. But my point is that you can't compare yourself with something someone else created, just to show how the society can be.
And by the way; didn't I just write what I thought? That's a fucken opinion, so why shouldn't I be commenting?
just saying that you shouldnt comment what im saying cause what I felt that point was that I was forced to pretend to be someone else than I was just to fit in, I had almost no friends at that moment when I had that style of clothing and such (no i was not emo) so I thought my life would be better if I started to dress like everybody else. But I was wrong, I got depressed and realized you can't try to be someone else just to fit in. Thats what I felt was my similarity to the doll att that point
Unnecessary? You're forcing your outlook as if it has a bearing on the outcome. It doesn't. You can be optimistic, pessimistic, or indifferent, but the very feeling of any of these "guesses" is irrelevant to its actual occurrence. Optimism is, just as often as it is not, simply the lie you tell to yourself as you wait for an event to pass. You may see benefits of optimism; for this reason, people are optimistic. None of these benefits have anything to do with the results, you should know.
Often "guessing" beforehand does affect the perception of the results. Perception is possibly more important than the occurrence itself, as a person's perception of a situation might as well be what has actually happened to that person. There is hardly such a thing as absolute truth/fact in that respect.
I'm not trying to be pretentious, just saying what I got out of this :D
The robot represented conformist humanity and it emulated the media to fit into society. I also believe the robot was attached to the box because it symbolized the entrapment of lacking thoughts of your own. They chose to make the main character a robot because they cannot think for themselves and will only do what they're told to do. Moral: using the media as a guide will lead to your destruction.
@commandoZAP It seems to me that you have mistaken a work of art for some kind of puzzle or riddle that is supposed to be 'solved' so a 'message' appears. Or maybe it was the author who have mistaken it?
I am personally quite fed up with the idea of objects of art being some kind of political or social agitation. I don't look at art to be indoctrinated with some half-baked idea a high-school kid could come up with.
Listen to yourself. It is you who are destroying the world. "The struggle to get there destroys what they are" so... what 'are they'? Stagnation is a moral ideal? Worshiping mediocrity should be the goal of entertainment? Enjoying, with an upward glance, god-like achievement is pointless, that death, destruction, and failure is our only fate when we try to realize our dreams? so... wanting to become better is sinful? Take the stick out of your ass and stop making this world a miserable place
Stress less buddy. They are what they are in their present state, "a being". Like you and me being a youtube users.
Doll Face's struggle to get there winds up with her destroyed, she represents the Want to become something else. You have to consider the creators intent with everything that happens in this, its there for a reason or as symbolism.
And what do you mean stick out of my arse? I'm just expressing my thoughts here, you're slapping me down. Poor andriod who just wanted to be pretty.
I think it has something to do with how the media pressures us to believe how we should life and look, trying to make our selves look like who we see on t.v. I dont know im 12
more about pursuit to reconciliation with the past. the doll is not trying to be someone else because the face in the TV is her face itself. There is a sequence of videos that play before and after her face. time setting is confusing. though I would say something of the future. all along the video it seems she is not aware of what is happening below her face. a hero archetype. doll is destroyed but not dead.
more about pursuit to reconciliation with the past. the doll is not trying to be someone else because the face in the TV is her face itself. Hah, What a sad existence that machine had. It could never be human no matter how much it tried to be... It's too bad that the greatest of desires could lead to death and self abuse. Its an interesting animation, and with a lack of words it could easily cast more than one message.
That's an awesome video. The animation is superb. Also there's a message about how everyone wants to be perfect even if they have to change themselves.
I think this is trying to tell us that the image of perfection is unnatainable and we will hurt who we really are if we try to change ourselves =] its very well done, and its a little creepy but i think thats a good thing :D
The message is simple: We go forward and try to make something of ourselves, looking for someone or something to look up to. As time goes on more concerned with the way we look. As we gravitate towards false ideals, we often lose sight of our own limitations, and as soon as we somehow gain a grasp of society's twisted ideals, we are lost in a mask we no longer recognize as ourselves, but rather a creature of unrecognizable quality and we grow unaware of what we have become, and we fall apart.
I'm 13 and i think this video reflects the view on society in today's media.
the perfect image has the biggest impact on women. the doll 'idolizes' the image on the tv, just like most girls and women do . As the tv screen moves it portrays the constant change of our wants and how it is out of reach. The doll aspires to be like the image on the tv screen, by all means necessary. The same thing is happening in today's society, and this is why diseases such as anorexia and bulimia occur.
Very interesting beliefs. I believe you're right. This video seems to portray the concept of yearning that people feel for many non-necessities (if that makes sense).
If there is so many people who agree that television and the media are making a negative impact on women (And not just women, men feel insecure as well.), why is it that this is still going on?
Men do go thru the same thing... but for some reason, its not dealt with the same way... talking about male insecurities is almost tabu in our society... I guess the answer to your question is still the media
The media which provides our visual diet also creates role models for us to follow that are out of our reach. Our struggles to bridge that impossible divide are doomed to self-destructive and inevitable failure. A sad, brilliant video.
i feel so bad for her because she feels bad....but others dont know it.....i wonder how many other kids are like that......i dunno what to do, how to make her see that shes fine, and if others dont think so then fuck 'em.....its weird... [srry for the melodramatic posts...this vid reminded me of her so much]
this is like a girl i know. 15yrs. she feels like she has to be like the girls in the mags she reads. she actually feels inadaquite. its amazing, i can't understand how she feels, so i dont know how to help. she feels like she'd be pretty if she lost some weight. put on the right makeup. she is desperate for a boyfriend-
- because she thinks somehow, if some guy wants her, shes pretty. and others will think shes pretty. its really bizaar listening to her talk, cuz you would never know that she felt this way, just in the little things she says. her mother gave her the weight complex. she is obsessive over what she eats. tells her to exersice on an eliptacle bike. her mom makes her feel fat. shes 145lbs and 5-7. shes NOT fat.
Why did you steal someone else's vid?

Beautiful movie. Robots wanting to become human, humans wanting to become God (in both cases, something higher than themselves).
The struggle to get there destroys what they are, and makes the dream itself evaporate (the screen broken when Doll Face did)
The TV at the end makes US watchers of a cyborg, suggesting we're dreaming of the same dream for technological growth.
Atleast I hope I'm right there, thoughtful stuff.

Very interesting beliefs. I believe you're right. This video seems to portray the concept of yearning that people feel for many non-necessities (if that makes sense).

The Doll Face's expression at 1:58 is beyond realistic! This video is amazing and beautiful!

that's because it's a real face edited into the video.

If there is so many people who agree that television and the media are making a negative impact on women (And not just women, men feel insecure as well.), why is it that this is still going on?
TheBulletStorm 3 years ago
Men do go thru the same thing... but for some reason, its not dealt with the same way... talking about male insecurities is almost tabu in our society... I guess the answer to your question is still the media

The media which provides our visual diet also creates role models for us to follow that are out of our reach. Our struggles to bridge that impossible divide are doomed to self-destructive and inevitable failure. A sad, brilliant video.

Fully agree with you spookysaurus.
Brilliant expression of a yet unchecked plague within our culture.

this is like a girl i know. 15yrs. she feels like she has to be like the girls in the mags she reads. she actually feels inadaquite. its amazing, i can't understand how she feels, so i dont know how to help. she feels like she'd be pretty if she lost some weight. put on the right makeup. she is desperate for a boyfriend-
knightsintodreams 3 years ago
- because she thinks somehow, if some guy wants her, shes pretty. and others will think shes pretty. its really bizaar listening to her talk, cuz you would never know that she felt this way, just in the little things she says. her mother gave her the weight complex. she is obsessive over what she eats. tells her to exersice on an eliptacle bike. her mom makes her feel fat. shes 145lbs and 5-7. shes NOT fat.
