  • I was there in 1989 right after they closed it down. There was a manit shed that was about 100 yards beside it that we were living out of. We provided support while they flew a bunch of flights in and out, taking a lot of the valuable supplies out. The amazing thing is that when we were there, the snow was a lot lower to the bottom of the building.

  • This was part of the DEW Line, Distance Early Warning Line, during the Cold War of US vs USSR. It was abandonded during the mid 1980's because it was sinking in the ice and was deemed unstable. The people manning the sight left on short notice, so now this is a monument to the Cold War, frozen in time and place, a time capsule of the geopolitical enviroment of the Cold War.
