  • you talk about loyalty and following orders!

so did the nazis but that doesn't necessarily make it so! from what i read it seemed like he had love for his squad! really what life comes down to is..you have to have heart, and that doesn't mean squeezing a trigger.

  • how many of you have even read his book?he wasn't a coward!! any idiot can fire a gun,but it takes a real person a strong person to think w/ logic. He went through some really bad things in ar ramadi. that macho attitude is worthless and nothing,so stop!! and then yo wonder why the world is so messed up! instead of planning new wars why dont you put that energy to feeding the poor,to put an end to violence!and hate, instead of just killing away or locking away the problem!

  • One word for you Mr. Mejia,

    COWARD!

  • @bplayer77000 And one word for you...

    SHUT UP!

    Well,that was accually two words..oops

  • "War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today."

    -John F. Kennedy-

  • why wont you tube post my comments about how it is important though for even the soldiers in the military to stand for human loyalty, even when the huge war machine is brainwashing their brains and suppressing their loyalty to humanity.Like it has happen so many times in history where military power has been used for the most unloyal reasons there is.(ex.nazi germany, soviet union, Chile with Pinochet, China in past & present, USA Iraq war...etc, etc, etc...

  • Peace to you and all. Specially to all the guys overthere who miss being home with their families leading a "normal" life and all the people who have to do fighting...

  • The fact that he was the first one kind of destroys your argument that he opposed being sent to Iraq because it was "popular." You may continue with the staw man about his dishonesty, or we can talk about this war that he and a growing number of vets oppose. Supporting this guy has actually been very beneficial, especially when my friends and family were in the military yet felt conflicted about speaking out against the war.

  • Camilo is a coward. He ran but he didn't have the guts to say, "I am deserting." Camilo turned his desertion into a media circus and now he has a bunch of wakos that know little if anything about honor follows him around the country calling for a mass desertion by OIF/OEF vets.

  • I see. Would you mind telling me what he does have the guts to say?

  • Nothing. He is a coward trying to save face. Saving face is very important to hispanic men. Being seen as a coward within the hispanic community is difficult especially for him. Look, I know his kind and I know him. The only reason he decided to "make a stand," is to take advantage of the growing anti-war movement. His a clown in a circus of clowns that are riding the popular wave. Oh, and he's a liar.

  • That's interesting. Do you think all the vets who are against the war are cowards?

Also, why don't you put yourself in his shoes then tell me how "easy" it is for him to be doing what he is doing.

Oh, and did you even watch the film?

  • No not all vets against the war are cowards. Just the ones that like Camilo who run away from duty. Also, I am a vet and I know what he knows. I was in his unit. And yes, it is easy for him to run and leave his Soldiers behind. It's easier to face danger than run away, right. I've been scared and I never left my Soldiers.

  • You were in his unit? Well, what do you think about the war?

  • I am not political. What I feel about this war, the President and the government is my business. I do my talking at the polls. As a citizen it's my right to vote and express my views in any way I want. As a Soldier, I follow orders and I accomplish my mission. I believe in the Army Values. Something that Camilo forgot when he landed in Jordan and later Iraq.

  • Camilo is going to have to live with his betrayal to his unit and his adopted country. But betrayal comes easy these days and is fashionable.

  • Maybe it is because you do not see the political reasons why he left that you can dismiss his acts as "easy." But, let's be frank it is not easy or fashionable. He could have faced the death penalty for desertion and cowardice. Instead of fleeing to Canada he faced the trial and stood up on political grounds. In fact he was one of the first to do it.

  • Believe me it was a lot more difficult to stay than to run. Cowards hide behind the shroud of politics and conscientious objection to get what they want, an easy way out. I know Camilo and I served in the same company with him. He was a mousy specialist that was promoted to E-6 based on a vacancy. He wasn't a leader nor was he brave. And so what if he was the first deserter, should we really celebrate that?

  • I don't know you atinoga but I can tell where your loyalties are. I respect the fact that you have a right to an opinion but supporting this guy is not a good move. The moment you are not looking he'll betray you, too. Camilo shows little character and he needs lessons on how to be an honorable man. He has the DISHONORABLE part down. It says it on his DD 214 Form. HOOHAH!

  • I don't know the guy. But whether he ran because he was a coward, or because he truly believe what he was being ordered to do in Iraq went against his moral instinct because they were unnecessary and inhuman, he did the right thing in coming back. After all the witness reports flowing in of the atrocities being ordered and committed in Iraq, it's no wonder more and more men and women of your army request to be "conscientious objectors". It does not make them cowards, only humans.

  • @enshala123 Shut Up! Your a coward not only a coward but a retard and a dis-grace to humans go eat manure

  • A revolutionary and an inspiration.

  • This is great! I can't wait to see him in two weeks at Socialism 2007.

  • my 1st conference
