  • nice to know that i have some support out there, thanks! please reply in your own time or not at all, thats cool.

  • Yaaaaa I'm one of the 4% that went right to 3d by myself. Yaaaaaa

  • The picture on skates chasing the helicopter is classic!

  • LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDS

  • I'm the happy new owner of a Blade CX 2, and really appreciate you sharing your tips, and yes I have already seen myself in more than one of them. I am still trying to get a good trim for a stationary hover, but I have discovered that patience is the key.

  • what are the things on the landing gear?

  • If only I had seen this video two days ago, I might not be going back to the LHS for the third time tomorrow! Even after the guy at the LHS begged....and I mean literally begged me not to purchase the Blade SR as my first heli, I did it anyway! You name it, I've mangled it....BIG TIME! Anywho, going back tomorrow for more parts and to get the smaller SMR or whatever the little Blade version is. Gonna fix my SR up and park it. Starting where I should've started at in the beginning. Thanks.

  • hey david ! i've been flying for about a year now with co-axials , i want to ask u do you think i am ready to move to the single rotor heli's ?? maybe a 6 channel ?? and what would you reccomend ??? thanx ! greetings from south africa

  • Thanks, although I came across this a little late as I have master all positions ( I think) but I agree with you, I love to see some people on youtube tha posts videos and say :" this is my 8th battery and I am already doing loops" nothing beats practice. thanks again.

  • Hi David, Well you put the bug in me, so I had to go out and get me a Heli. I got a Blade CX3 , came with a E-flite 2S 7.4V 800mAh [6Wh] LiPo 10C 2S Battery.

How much more battery is safe to use in this heli? What is the rule?

  • just a good thank you but I still can't get my blade sr to hover I have no problem with the other helicopters just with the a collective pitch

  • thanks again dave, good vid mate

  • Just to put it out there, next cool thing for R/C would be force feedback in the controller.

  • When I first got my Kalt Whisper in 1994, the first flight was great, then I had a series of crashes. In 1998 it was stored away and since then I've collected more than enough spare parts to completely build a second Whisper. Now I'm seriously considering building a shelf-queen.

  • u fly apatche

  • great

  • After 20 yeas I am coming back into the hobby. Thank for your videos and advice.

you are a great communicator and practical

    Teacher

    Thank

  • I am new to this and have found your videos to a terrific help. Your manner is easy going and easy to follow. Many thanks Dave

  • Thanks for great video. When you saying pinch left stick, are you referring to Mode 1 or Mode 2 Tx?

  • @mdeeRocks He is talking about mode 2 :)

  • Comment removed

  • Great video, thanks very much for these tips :-)

  • much thanks!

  • the guy from "xhelicopter" ddi a video on the falcon 40. now he said to chop the throttle if your gonna crash. you said to never chop the throttle. does what you said apply to what he said? or are these completely diferent circemstances? please reply... -zac

  • @pyromaniackid1 Well both are right because if you are going to run into a wall, it is better to fall to the floor than crushing into the wall :) BUT if you are flying normal and if you are trying to land, don't chop the stick or it will land too hard :)

  • He's right on saying don't blame the manufacturer, but I must say I've been very disappointed with the Blade 400. IMHO it's cheap crap. I have been happy with the TRex and walkera and there's a Hobby People Mystery that's pretty good, and most small helis are great but they're for indoors only. If you want a good cheap heli that's built like a brick shit house go for the Hobby People Mystery. Takes a beating whereas the Blade does not and that's important for amateurs.

  • hey i have a e-razor 450, the esc burned out..then i replaced it .....now im trying to do a test flight and the collective servo wont work.... full power no lift off...... so i disconnected motor from esc... everyother control work except from collective pitch..do u have any idea wats wrong

  • @12m34 Does your collective actually move the swashplate up and down? If so, then the blade pitch may not be enough of an angle to gain lift. Otherwise, I would suggest if you're talking about a single servo, switch it with another servo (the link to the receiver) and see if that works. The servo could be burnt out or it gears could be stripped.

  • What is it on you landing gear are those floats

  • @bulldogboy2 Yes, he uses floaties so he can see his heli easier and not get disoriented.

  • dave nice video and great tips i dont have a hellicopter but if i get one i will definatley use your tips

  • I have a belt cp v2 single rotor heli and i have happened to do exactly what you don't recommend. I started with no experience but was extreamely careful, however that meant i barely flew it an inch off the ground. I have crashed a lot once i got more confident and learn how to repair. Now i am waiting for a 50 dollar repair order, my worst crah yet. I have looked at how helis work and now know a lot more and plan to be a lot more careful, thanks for the tips anyway.

  • woohoo!! we love you niteflyer!!!!

  • my my nine is such an odd number

  • I am learning so much from you... Thank you for teaching! I'am having so much fun and this has enabled me to get closer to my Father-in-Law. He started me out on this and now I'm up and running. Can't get enough!

  • @ 4:35 you have a picture of you hovering what looks like a blueray ..

    While wearing gloves ..

With the note about pinch meathod being required while wearing gloves.

Perhaps it is just the way the shadows are falling .. but it sure does look to me like your thumb is the only thing on your cyclic stick in the pic ..

  • The comment about new pilots feeling like they are experts already because they are good at video games is so true. I myself thought i would catch on quickly but was proved very wrong and oh how my knees still shake as I learn! hehe

  • Thanks a lot Mr. Dave or as we say here in Venezuela, "MUCHAS GRACIAS" I just bought a walkera 5-4q3 airwolf for me and a e-sky co-comanche for my 12 y.o. son. We are newbies on this and we are watching your videos and reading this 9 tips trying to avoid as many crashes as we can. Today in the comanche first flight we broke two rotor blades against a wall, but, it came with replacement and tomorrow we'll try again. Thanks again for all your knowledge and sharing of wisdom with us the RC-DUMMIES!

  • Dave, don't be too humbled lol, great vid's. my 400 10+ crashes hehe , got 2 more bigger. 1 is ready " not flown yet " soon, even bigger a work in progress. and still fly my little Blade CX co-axle lol

  • thanks for the tips Dave. :-)

  • Thanks Dave, I started watching your videos before I bought my coaxial heli 6 months ago. Whenever I get a little frustrated I watch some videos and get a bit educated and motivated to keep trying. I've since upgraded my coaxial with xtreme motors and extended shaft to fly outside. I'm looking forward to moving up to a fixed pitch soon, please keep the video coming, I think I'll need a whole lot of motivation to get there. THANK YOU so much for your time and effort, you are an inspiration!!!

  • Dave top-man very good words of wisdom. have fun now.

  • Thank-you Dave so much!!! I have learned so much more by following these 9 tips and have progressed a lot quicker too when I was starting to fly my honeybee

  • this is a big THANK YOU THANK YOU

  • Thanks This is what I need to know before I can really enjoy it. Thank you so much.

  • Thank you Dave so much!! your tips helped me save a lot of rotor blades!! And helped me starting out to pick good starting models. I have been flying for well over a year and a half now with good sucsess thanks to you and your tips!!! I say to all LISTEN AND LEARN! You will learn too!!

    Thanks Eric D.

  • i fly airplanes, but just by watching this vid makes me want to go out and get into helis. Great tips Dave, keep up the good work.

  • you seem overwelmed with the amount of pm's. Mabey you should just hang up trying to ansewer all of them. I wouldent take it as an insult. You need some time to yourself not ansewering e-mails.

  • wheres the model huey at

  • Can I have one? You have so many? Please.

  • Thanks Dave, as always, great vid. great tips.

  • your videos are educational and fun plus you are nice enough to respond and that is why is subscribe to you a year and a half ago.

    thanks Dave!!!

  • "If you continue to do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always gotten!" ....

THIS IS YOUR BEST TIP EVER!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Dave, you really are a great guy! Please, don't feel the need to reply to my comment, I know how busy you are ;)

  • Thank you for this video i am still trying after more than a year so bought a e-flite blade m sr and it works with my dx6i controler so i can try indoors in this rotton winter and if it crashes it just bounces! so hope to be better with my blade 400 in the spring no need for reply as see you are a busy man so thanks once again....Jim

  • awesome dave yet again another awesome video these same tips helped me begin learning to fly even though id still say im a beginner but even the pro's are still learning the day you stop learning is the day you become obsolete

  • also guys one i thing before even i take i go through i what i'm gonna do inflight in my head. this helps you prepare. i remeber couple yrs back dave sending me the documents these rules sure help out beginners and now i'm flying 3D

  • you should make one for begginer plane rc

  • Appreciate these videos much Dave! Thank you for taking them time!

  • Great tips Dave! They worked real nice!

  • Pt 2 comment @ Night Flyyer and he said "yes but i know you shouldn't be flying the

TREX 600 as your first 6ch RC helicopter but i think you will be alright,

just keep it slow and take your time"

So Again @ Night Flyyer, it was the FIRST 6ch Heli i had flown, i DO NOT own a 6CH RC helicopter.

  • pt 1 comment @Night Flyyer like i said, the FIRST 6 CH RC HELI. iv had practice in the past with my friend who is a freak. (you dont wanna know how much of a freak he is in RC toys.) in 2008 i first flew a Syma S107 heli for about 5 months. Around early 2009 he let me fly a 4ch helicopter (forgot what it was) and in mid 2009 He thought i was good enough to move upto a 6ch, I was so suprised he said "try the TREX 600" and i remember saying, "are you shore" end of pt 1 of comment.......

  • Thanks for all your great videos

    from a fan from Germany

You are the best on youtube

  • i never woud have learn,t to fly heli,s if it wasn,t for you dave a thousand thanks i,v even posted two vids and it,s all down to you again many many thanks

  • sound advice,

ive found my blade 400 easyer to fly when not exeeding my limits, sims also help alot with oreintaton but the nerves kick in on the real thing and its easy to panic

after suffering 2 dead lipos from the lhs i finaly have a working lipo pack and cotinue flying :)

advice to new pilots, dont give up after crashing, even though it costs alot in repairs, its teaching you your limits, and where you go wrong so you can avoid this in future flights :)

  • After watching a few of your videos, I have a Blade MCX and I love it - I've had it for a few months now.

  • Great tips Dave. I've been flying by them for over a year now and they are undisputably accurate. I must confess I am still working on the left stick index finger& thumb thing since I learned with just the thumb before I ever saw your vids. It's a hard habit to break but I am making a conscious effort. In fact, I use the finger & thumb on the right stick too!

  • @SoCalsandman780 I am the exact opposite. I learned right off the bat with tumb and forefinger and have tried to do it with just thumb and simply can not. It is mostly impossible for me to keep one hovering with just my thumb. Worst part is, I learned that way with Both hands, so I have to use thumb and forefinger on right and left sticks. Doesn't bother me any unless I buy a small heli that comes with a small remote that is really only made for thumbs.

  • @Estara Haha. Put some gloves on and see how you do.

  • Dave as I have said before, you need to make a Email address where you have a few rc experienced monitors that can go on there and answers questions for you.

    Keith R.

  • nice vid as always dave. 5*

  • Good tips but I taught myself and I was doing 3D all day long!!! But now I help people and people help me. But it's true every1 blames the manufactures, they wouldn't be in business if they made crappe products.

  • You're welcome, from the tips of my fingers.

    You the man!

  • who dares wins!.....some of the time anyway

  • man i wish i wasins soo pore

  • Great Tips for the beginner Dave Thx!

  • Thanks Dave, back in 2008 was when I first started out in rc helis and your 9 heli tips were and still are the basis of my training. Great video and it's nice to have a refresher video, thank you for taking the time to make this video Dave, superb job. Semper Fi & God Bless =)

By the way, I have now pretty much mastered all orientations hovering, including the dreaded Nose-In =) Thanks to you Dave =)

  • thx for putting up the tips they help alot i am getting better with flying the helis but still have a lot of learning to do ...thx again

  • Hey there Dave. Just thought I would take a second to send our thanks from here in Iraq. Myself and three other friends here are starting to learn helis. Your videos have been awesome. I spend half my free time watching your videos and the other half on the sim. Your videos have helped me tons. I came into heli's pretty cocky as i have a big background in rc electric and nitro touring cars and offroad trucks but soon found out its a different game. Thanks for the videos!!!

    Sgt Thomas

  • guest what when i bought my blade 400 i couldn't hover but i could go forward flight strange

  • Guess you never had it long then.

  • Jumped in on this thread! Nightflyer, your vid's have beeen an inspiration in my personal learning process, I thank you! If you are ever in the UK, please PM me, I'd love to take you to our local shop, and maybe to our field for some flying! Regards, Damian.

  • Dave for President!!!

  • Dave Herbert! you are the king, such a marvelous inspiration for us heli-newbees, and others to i recon. I mean, you really cut the learning curve way shorter than it would be otherwise. Areally big superthanx that you are here 4 us. Greetings from Sweden.........

  • PERFECT TIMIING!! I am trying to learn to fly my B400 (have a simm, AND msr) .. ready to give up after rebuilding it 5 times with very littel flight time. But, I'll be more patient and keep going with his advice.

  • Great vid as always Dave, it's always good to be reminded of the basics. Keep up the great work.

  • I am trying to follow in your footsteps and make my own RC videos mostly on helis and cars, as well as earning subscribers. I also know that I do need videos to earn those subscribers but I dont have the money like you do to purchase products of my interest and make vides about them to earn subscribers, can you gve me some tips?

The reason I want the subscribers, is becuase the moment I become a partner, i will be able to review more products.

  • Thank you for the video! I have been practicing on my clear view and flight simulators both plans and helis. I want to buy one but I think I'm going to buy a heli first I like the falcon 40 you did a review on. Heli may be better for me due to space limitations.

  • Hey Dave great video 5 stars

  • I got your 9 tips by pm a few months ago and appreciated them greatly, posting this vid is a great ideam hopefully folks will find it and cut down on some of your pm's lol 5* as always

  • Thanks a lot mr. herbert! Those tips are very very helpful, especially since i am planning to start 4 ch heli these next few months. Thank again a bunch, very nice and information -filled video, great video as usual! Thanks!

  • Thanks Dave!!!! I can't see my comment too...

  • Dave is that free FMS RC simulator safe to use, it has the name FMS2LPHA85.EXE, remember your warning video you made on the FMS virus, it had the same name. Only this file I downloaded straight from the FMS site not Aerofly.. please give me a reply..

  • It is a safe bet that it will work fine. If there is a virus hidden in it, Cyberdefender, Norton, AVG, should all catch it. That is the FMS simulator, so it is usually safe.

  • You are the man Mr. Herbert!!!!

  • you have the best vids

  • Dave, your reviews and tips are awesome. I always look forward to a new video!

  • Great advice Dave!

  • its beautiful vid no words for is absolutely 5 stars this vid id SO GOOD it helped me but my lama v3 is retour cuz of error in transmitter :(

  • dont u mean keep ur finger and thumb on the rignt stick and it doesnt matter on the left

  • NO. The left stick needs the most attention with 3 separate controls being run by it. Most Champions actually pinch with both hands. Im okay with just left, especially with gloves on.

  • I just dont do it at all cause I learned fly without it and it just feels weird for me. never had any trouble flying mild heli 3d and everything up to rolling harriers with airplanes.

  • @fspacerc1 Try it with gloves. Everybody is spoiled. We FLY here.

  • Your right about the gloves Ive only tried it once and i dont plan on doing it again lol...fortunatly i live in SC so it usually doesnt get that cold.anyway keep up the videos its great to have people like you to encourage people in this challenging hobby.

  • once i gavbe my brother throttle stick.. i knewd that if ill give him right stick it will crash in 5 secs... he was hovering for few secs and then he gave like 80% throttle ( he didnt knewd power of heli) and the heli goes like 50meters in sky.. i almost bring him to the ground.. never ever give model to anyone...

  • CO PILOT 2 is not a sim. its an anti crash system for ur helli. ppl love it. youtube it. or google it. im gonna get one. i can fly good enough. but this will take the stress off.

  • Oh, my mistake, I knew that. (too much reading for my old eyes) I guess I like being in total control. LOL. Anyway, I still believe the best way is to learn without crutches, cause most people will depend on them and not know what to do when they fail. Sims are stress free even more. LOL.

But they are fun to play with, for sure.

  • ok i have tip # 10. FMA COPILOT 2 . $209 may well be the diff between you spending anether $300 plus.

  • I already mentioned sims early in the vid.. Any sim will help, but eventually ya gotta get out and fly the real thing.

  • cheers Mr Dave!

  • It's flooding with comments and I cannot see mine.........=)

  • I post it on my channel

  • Thanks kindly.

  • thank you very much this will sure help when i get my first heli :D and that probally won't be long from now. thanks for all your time and effort dave :) the same is for jeff.

  • Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate that.

  • My First 6ch, collective pitch Heli was the TREX 600 and i was doing loops within a week. Wats up wit that. Maby its just me.

  • Hard to believe for sure, with what I know. It mustve been thrilling. Where are the videos?

  • i like the volkswagon comparison ,

i was just saying to myself the other day-

a mercades wont make you a better driver.

  • Thanks very kindly. Very well said.

  • As always Dave a pleasure watching you video's as most of us will always learn something ;-) even the ones who think they know it all and will never admit to it lol, great job mate = 5*

  • Thanks you very much. Your a good man. I appreciate your comments.

  • Great production Dave!

  • Thanks kindly sir.

  • Another great video Dave! Thanks for all you do for new RC heli pilots like myself. Great job!!

  • I really appreciate your comments. Thank you.

  • i have bin looking for that kinde of info, THX so much.. my self im a noob trying to fly a blade msr, and ist going okey for now. :-)

  • Thank you. If you only get one thing out of it, I will feel good. Good luck to you.

  • All hail ...the god of RC! you are the best sir.

  • You are very kind. Thanks much.

  • i hate since on a saterday

  • another great vid man

    thank you.

  • Thanks kindly.

  • i felt like crying. thanks for thanking us.

  • We always enjoy your class. Very good lessons.

  • I do appreciate you attending. Thanks kindly.

  • I have been flyin 4 some time now, been watchin rc vids on youtube even longer! I find that I keep watching the same ppl, You are one of them. Great vids, Thanz loads!!!! I have just started posting vids myself.

  • I appreciate your comments and support. Thank you.

  • I find what works for me is to always watch the part of the heli that is furthest from me whether it be the nose or the tail. That part will always go in the direction the stick is moved in. Forward and back control I find quite easy even when the heli is nose in.

I find your videos very inspiring!

  • Thats interesting. I tried many different ways over the years and so being in the cockpit works best for me, cause I fly planes and helis a lot, and switch back and forth. If I look back and see the tail rotor, I would get scared. LOL.

  • as always - great stuff, Dave!

  • Thanks very much.

  • for some reason i always look at the tail and theres no diffrence between them for me and i fly 3d so yea thats me :)

  • Good. I ride in the cockpit, myself.

  • Dave, if you didn't know, the new Phoenix RC 2.5 Simulator is very good. I think it is more focused on helis more than planes and it also has many Horizon Hobby products. For example, it has the Blade 400, Parkzone Corsair, MSR, 4-Site, MCX, CX2 and tons more. You should try it. I love mine and looks and feels very realistic. It also costs much less than Realflight. I've went from getting it on Christmas and now I can hover and fly helis in forward flight with proper turning. I can prop-hang too

  • @BrainyBoy7

    yep i agree

plss do a review of Phoenix rc simulator for the people ?

    grtzzz pierre

  • I have so many sims, my computers are filled up. I know the Phoenix is good too. If someone sends me one, I will review it.

  • They have a free sample on their website. type in "phoenix rc" on google

  • Thank you, Air Boss! You're really a great help for the struggling RC pilots with these videos. 5*!

  • I appreciate that. If you get 1 thing from it, I have succeeded. Thank you.

  • i used thumbs to pilot, until i switched to heli. I felt like i couldnt have enough control.

I thought i wouldnt get used to using fingers, but i tried.. 5min later I couldn't go back to thumbs (even on planes).

The only drawback is that you need big hands (which i don't have :P) or a neckstrap to both carry the TX and pilot. Using thumbs you can do both without troubles.

ps: using both fingers on both sticks gives me also more control

  • Maybe, but everyone in competition has learned the left thumb cannot slip or wiggle or get cold, and cant afford to move around so squeeze it, It is because you have to control 3 things precisely, and the majority agree.

  • PS. Its awkward feeling in the beginning, but also, we fly with Gloves on here a lot. It is impossible to feel the sticks with just the thumb.

    Thanks again for your comments.

  • The nicest guy on YouTube without a doubt. Great videos.

  • Haha. Thanks kindly.

  • Great rules to learn by. Another great video. Thanks.

  • Thank you very much.

  • very good reminder how things are done right, you practice this well and it the moves become natural and you won't have to think about it anymore, like driving a car LOL thx Dave, 5 stars for sure !

  • Thanks for taking time to make this helpful video. I really got a lot out of it

  • Thanks for watching it. I appreciate your comments.

  • yea, you must imagine yourself inside the helicopter... and plane for that matter!

  • Exactly.

  • Great Tips! I'm glad you decided to publish them via this video. 5*!

  • Great vid!!

  • Thanks very kindly.

  • Good video. Keep up the good work!

  • Thanks very much. I will try.

  • very useful video dave!

    thanks

  • Thanks very kindly, I appreciate that.

  • awesome tips, these will definately help me on my way to learning

  • Thanks very kindly. I appreciate that.

  • Thanks much. Your right, It comes to me naturally now, after 30 years, til I turn it upside down almost out of site. LOL.

  • Thanks Jeff.

    I appreciate the local support.
