I'm having a similar problem with a vaio laptop that i bought last year, i tried to recover my operating system and then the installation hung at 80% so i just thought it was a problem with the partition recovery.
Then I called sony support and had a fight with them because i needed one set of recovery discs to recover the laptop again. They wanted to charge me a price for the discs but then they agreed to send me the discs for free, in the end i used the discs and the same problem...
pay me i'll send u the cd lol..

see u can get drivers from sony website.
as far as conser with hot key only music control key are working but other like brihtness, mute n all not working...
but u can manage from window...so not to worry...

man now i use windows 7. much much better than vista..thuogh it's RC.
suggest u to do samething. but make sure u hv laptop's all drivers.

it's too much expensive to buy them from sony
