I enjoy your videos and I was wondering what type of program you use for your art. I myself use Corel Painter 12 because I just enjoy the layout and feel more than Photoshop. But what I was wondering is if you would do some tutorials on what features you use and how you use them when sketching, coloring, etc. Like what brushes/pencils you use for certain styles and situations. Also any tips for the layout of your tablet and shortcuts and color palettes would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot x)
@Ragnarok26 Look at Sycra's channel. Right at the very top, there's a video called "Brush settings and blending". That should be enough to get you started.
great video, could you do one on how to shade to show texture. theres a guy called zooc (channel name zoocdoesstuff) who does amazing texture work, id love to be able to acomplish even a little of the effect he does, you explain things so well, and are a more willing teacher than he is, id love it if you could do a tutorial on how to get the effects he does.
Sycra, if you're not using them for something else already, I recommend setting up one of the sliders (the one near your non-drawing hand) on your Intuos to change brush size. It's not extremely precise, but it works well for a quick change from large to small, and it's easier to reach than the bracket keys.
@KouD3Graw The program at my college is a joke. The problem is that the teachers only grade you on assignments to measure you, not build you up. The worst of it is when they try to convert you to doing fugly high art malarkey and spend an entire semester having students praise each other for constructing abominations out of glued-together trash from the dumpster outside. The only true way to get better is with books, videos, deliberate practice.
Honestly, I feel that most art books these days are not so instructive. I've bought quite a few and sometimes, it seems that all they are doing is just making you pay money just to read "practice, practice, practice!" or teaching you things that you already know as an artist.
Here, you get more in depth and show things that I actually wanted to know as an artist.
@Sycra: Thank you for another great video. I have followed your videos for a while and I think you get better and better at teaching. Its a great idea to take up these subjects one by one, in this case cross hatching and give it your own personal touch. When you explained the U-motion and that it was not a U-shape, maybe you could have just said that it is a straight line one the paper (horizontally) .. and a U-shape up/down (vertically) .. even though it is probably a mix. Just a thought.
:'D Damn that actual 'demo' of the pencil really cracked me up!

LoL Sycra... the animation of the pencil and the guy looking at the pattern is hilarious! Only a creative brain would do that... had me laughing. =)

Thanks, very useful video. You could have focused more on how to define the contours with those curvy lines, though.
