They're both heavily progressive in that they both use unorthodox time signatures, use complex and precise musical arrangements, and have surreal and esoteric lyrical topics. Which is a good thing, progressive rock/metal is the fucking best music!

Best album so far from the Mastodon. Everyone is complaining that there aint any good metal that comes out but there are some great exceptions, Mastodon, Schwarzer engel, Amon amarth, Pain, Poisonblack and Diablo should be the next big thing instead of the old great ones as AC/DC, Megadeth, Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, Ozzy and Judas Priest. Long live metal.
