Have you thought about the live coral and rocks going a little higher? At least for some of the coral's sake to get closer to the lights? Please look at my profile or playlist channel for my 120g example. See how some of the live rocks get close to the surface? Yes, I know that the coral at the top gets exposed to air at water changes but we are talking 1-2 minutes LOL

very basic to say the least. Skimming is fine. all u need is water flow for good bio filtration. Come on fellas do you read at all?

Hey, would you happen to know if you can use your protein skimmer as a filter and not use a real filter?

nothing would happen, i know people who just have just a skimmer, but i have one with a refugium in the sump wit it

A protein skimmer is only one component in a comprehensive filtration system. Skimming alone will PROBABLY not be enough.
Depending on your set-up you're still going to need some sort of biological filtration (live rock, media, etc).
