Still got the LP in Memphis! Fabulous song on vinyl since the early 70's, worthy of being as well known as Vincent or American PIe, it really speaks to the soul.
Such a beautiful, heartfelt song, that I really identify with at times. I think anyone could. Loved it since my days in the mid 70's at college. Yes, it was way out before 1980. Sang it a hundred or more times myself privately and in public. Hey, I might sing it tomorrow! Thank you Don for possibly your greatest unknown song. It's a testament to the deepness of your singer songwriter soul, no doubt.
This was played at a funeral of a friend of mine who suffered mental illness. In the end he took his own life. The song, I think, describes exactly what must have been going through his mind, and as a fellow sufferer i now understand. A most beautiful song and one I will never forget
There's no need for turning back/ Cause all roads lead to where I stand/ And I believe I walked them all/ No matter what I may have planned....... I have quoted this song's lines since I first heard them. I end up still wanting to turn back time, but I tell myself these words, whenever I get that way. I have also quoted them to others. That has been for 40 years now. Wow.
This is the first song that ever spoke to me - where I could deeply identify and hear that someone else could tell it. The lines are so classic and beautiful.
Thank you for posting this. I believe I heard it on the American Pie album released, I thought, in 1973.
Lovely song, long time favourite. I would like to know were that photo of the man in the red jacket sitting on the ledge was taken. I would like to visit there sometime.
I saw Don again just 2 weeks ago. Though he did miss one or two other goodies that I was hoping for, he didn't miss this one out. Makithecat, you've done a wonderful job here. The photos fit the theme perfectly!
Can you find my pain? Can you heal it? God, lay your hands upon me now, and cast this darkness from my soul,,,You alone can light my way,you alone can make me whole,,,once again.
wonderful song - thank you for loading and the photos are amazing too. I've seen Don many times in concert over the years. He comes back to Dublin every two years or so and is playing this month again in Dublin and I can't wait to go see him. Vinny

Don McLean's American Pie was actually released in 1971, but he did it anyway. :D
