  • It's not the age of the controller, the driving controller has always felt looser than the paddle controller.

  • I pretty much have a rule. If Stella is in one of your videos, I favorite it. Instant reflex.

  • Driving Controllers: Use with Indy 500, and race. lol . These controllers are easy to find, i found my copy for 4 dollars :D

  • Driving controllers rotated around without limit and, as Mark indicated, really only worked with Indy 500. Paddle controllers only turned a certain "distance" in each direction. As noted, it was possible to plug-in 4 paddle controllers.

This was use for the game, Warlords which was actually quite good if you had 3 or 4 players. It benefited from the fact that no AI is as good as a human player (especially in those days) so if you had 3 or 4 people playing at once it could be great fun.

  • I played a horrible racing game when I was about 3 years old, and I only remember a few thing like, the horrible sounds it made, the disgusting colors they used, the awful controls, and you drove up n down, not left to right, also the cars looked so retarded, they had square wheels and then bodies, almost like a capital letter I with 4 squares on it lol. Anyways if you remember this game send me a message. I dont think its indy 500 or grand prix, but I did have grand prix as a kid I know.

  • I wish I had a dog like Stella

  • his dog is so cute.

  • 2:10 what about the game "race"

  • @superdrewster98 Race is the same game, but it was released by Sears.

  • anyone know the name of one driving game, the one you're chasing by the police and you can use smoke to block the path.

    Thanks in advance

  • @chainbastard1940 Spy Hunter :)

  • @dreftsnoop thanks for the help

  • love the porn music in the background :P

  • Thumbs up if you like doing donuts around the ice tracks!

  • @Golobit "Awesomerr' isn't a word. Mark is more awesome. xD

  • That racecar on the controller puts me in the KILLING mood.

  • Thumbs up for Gran Turismo 5 for Atari 2600!

  • Yes the driving controller does not have the resistance that paddle controller has because of age.

  • hello, may i know the atari flashback 2 console power supply on 110v~220v?i'm from malaysia, like to know is the console can work fine on malaysia.thank you very much.

  • you used both of these controllers before you made this video and you can't tell that one spins unlimited in either direction and one has a stop that allows only so much spin? The driving controller was the same controls scheme that was in the arcade racing game by atari at the time that Indy 500 was based off of. and plays almost as good as the arcade version.

  • paddle controllers move up down left and right can play two players while only using one input. driving controllers lets u move in full 360 and need two controllers for 2 players.

  • that dog is so cute. when i move out i'm gettin' a black lab.

  • Where can I find a Driving Controller that works?

  • @Cheetah1251

I got all mine off eBay. It's worth having two controllers because Indy 500 with a friend rocks!

  • replace your steering wheel with the controller

  • Apparently, the paddle controllers only go a certain amount, while the driving controllers can go forever.

  • that dog is gooder than a music.

  • What a strange thing xD

  • really amazing I play it a lot during the holidays with my dad he is absolutely brilliant at it. I was lucky enough to download it perfectly free for my ps3 here; 115 games {.} com they have literally hundreds I couldnt beleive that they are all totally free oh also 2:15 was magnificent

  • Are 2600's durable Im getting one tommorow I dont want to get electrocuted by the 2600 My NES Shocked me.

  • I have been searching for an atari like paddle for the PS2 as I have Activision Anthology that has KABOOM! on it and it is impossible to play with the dual analog PS2 controller. I havent found anything yet after hours of searching on the web. People are calling the regular controllers paddles and it is making my search harder.

  • There was a controller reminiscent of this for the N64 and Playstation called the Ultraracer. If you have driving games on either of these two systems, get one!

Also, you forgot to mention the main difference between the two Atari controllers. The driving controller uses an encoder and can rotate continuously, while the paddle uses a potentiometer and has 'stops'.

  • Seems Atari was taking libertys with this one.

  • Stella should transform into a car! Make the cool Transformers sound.

If your Megadrive or Atari breaks it'd be cool if she transforms into those too.

Stella rules as she is though.

  • Cute Puppy! He reminds me of my cousins dog.

  • jajajja me mato la carita del perro :P

  • the racing controller also works with sega genesis

  • nice dog

  • 2:00 Stella is not a race car, no matter how much to might want her to be. You have to face facts, man :(

  • I don't.

Indy 500 required the player to continuously turn towards the right, and therefore it was not possible to use the paddle controllers that came with the Atari console.

Rather than put Indy 500 on the shelf, Atari decided to include the extra controllers with the game. And I'm glad because i loved it.

  • as soon as he put gran turismo 5 in front of the camera i just laughed

  • lmao same controller

  • wat does the button on the side do??

  • the difference i remember was the paddle would go so far 1 direction then it would stop youd have to go oposite way where as the driving controller went round and round the same way

  • your paddle controller is strang ......... mine is the same as the driveing controller but it has thesame wire as paddle

  • I want that dog! I want the Atari too!

  • ha :P

  • I believe there was another game released that used the driving controllers.

The only cosmetic difference between the paddle and the driving was that two paddles shared one plug.

As I remember Atari only released about 11 games that used the paddles. I think Super Breakout or Diamonds to Demons was the last paddle game.

  • Yeah Indy 500 is awesome so getting the specialized controllers for just one game while kinda silly you'd want to because it is a great game.

    ----

"Ideally they will release GT5 Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (or the full version in 2009) for both the PS3 and the Atari 2600 with Driving Controller support." <-- lol Classic Game Room is awesome.

  • the driving controller is way more shiny!

  • no i can see the difference i need the driving paddle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

  • wow so old lol

    as simple as this is

i prefer steering wheel controllers, they give you more of a feeling that your driving

  • Theres a Paddle controller for the PS1/PS2, as you got it for free with Puchi Charat. (and it was released in the West too!)

  • are you going to do the genisis controller

also will that controler work on the genisis

  • Does that game works with the paddle controller?

  • Probably not, because the paddles and driving controllers work differently. The paddle signals it's absolute position, but the driving control signals movement instead (it doesn't have a position).

So I don't think a game written for one type would work with the other.

  • love your dog :)

  • those paddles were badass

  • lol..ur dog is awesome...

  • is your dog the official CGRHD mascot??

  • Only if Stella defeats Mega Wind Squid.

  • Another major difference between the Paddle and Driving controllers is the maximum angle each can turn in. The Paddles turn just under one full rotation, while the Driving controllers have no limit to how much they can turn in. Also, did you name your dog after the Atari 2600's codename?

  • What kind of dog is it?

  • Not to offend but,That dog is awesomerr than you ;D

  • Agreed! -CGRHD

  • @InecomCompany Aww, nah. :D The dog's awesome, but you're the main attraction.

  • @Golobit Who can't love such an adorable puppy like Stella?

  • Your dog is so adorable!

Err, ahem, I need to get my masculinity back. >_>

  • Awesome.

  • dog r pwns!

  • i love your dog lol
