  • great clip even though fictional. L.H. really makes a fast costume change.  I love Lionel Hampton. No one in this scene eats their chile.

  • The music is real, but this sequence is pure Hollywood fiction, as Lionel Hampton had already been established as a jazz musician at the time he first "jammed" with Benny in August 1936, becoming a charter member of "The Benny Goodman Quartet". As for Benny's "shyness" about playing in New York [1:13]- again, dramatic license for the sake of the movie {Benny supposedly "conquers" New York by playing Carnegie Hall at the end}.
