Thalberg wrote music to sound like the pianist had 3 hands. Simple, just play the second note in a chord (tenor) and a third contra melody in the left. When I unwittingly play an improvisation in church like this it effects the audience and the priest to such a degree I get applause (we try not to elicet applause in church) and notice from the priest! I, usually, am not aware of this - I play in a trance like state and am astonished I actually did that?!.
