  • Found this version while listening to Stacey Kent's playful, jazz combo version on YouTube. Both equally enjoyable.

  • @osamabindead1 -What a wonderful and novel idea. lol

  • The Sopranos suck, but not Artie Shaw he was the best clarinetist much better than Goodman

  • @hudent -not so.I believe that they were on a par. Both of them were great-and from the same tribe.

  • how does "the sopranos" get the music right every fucking time?

  • Hahaha I love how so many Sopranos fans are here. That's what brought me here. Best show ever!

  • theres something about the part between 1:00 and 1:20 that just gets me every time. I love it to death and cant stop listening to it. The whole piece is just great.

  • Awesome song....love her voice.

  • @happycompy

She was one of the very best female singers of the Big Band era. She has the distinction of having recorded with the Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, and Harry James bid bands.

  • Helen Forrest was the best girl big band singer and Artie Shaw was a genius!

  • I complelely agree.

  • She's not up to Mildred Bailey, Billie or Ella but she sure is good.

  • You're right. Nobody was up to the phrasing of Billie, and no one had the ear of Ella.

  • @taddyd1 Everybody learned from somebody else. Ella idolized the lead singer Connee Boswell (of the Boswell Sisters), later saying, "My mother brought home one of her records, and I fell in love with it....I tried so hard to sound just like her.

  • @emerging2012

love Connie and her sisters too. Mildred always seems the most sincere and heartfelt of the jazz canaries, but Connie was the definitely the funkiest.

  • I'm seriously born in the wrong decade. I wish I'd grown up with music this fantastic.

  • @disonant

    Amen to that brother!

  • @disonant Me too. I feel i've been born at least 60 years too late. Especially for the great music and literature. I feel like a lost beatnik sometimes :)

  • @disonant Ditto!

  • @disonant you still can!! the glory of the internet;) pretty cool
