THE PROBLEM IS<<< how do you spend gold???? When the bottom falls out, who are you going to give gold to for food, water,clothing,bills etc etc etc. This is the problem. If precious metal is the way then silver would be the most obvious investment, for all practical purposes...................... I believe Gerald on everything except that..

Why not be able to give whatever precious metal someone was willing to accept? A gold coin. Several silver coins. A platinum ignot. A suitcase of copper. A truck full of nickel. Of course banks would hold the metals and issue certificates that could be traded and redeemed. Competing currencies that cannot be printed at will regardless of the base metal is the solution.
