  • for the evo hatch the best is tarmac mode because it is more rear wheel bias, although nice job drifting a fwd bias car

  • Evo hatch is so ugly.. it looks like a wagon!!!

  • Comment removed

  • DORIFTO!!

  • shredded the paint on the ralliart right by the wheels

  • I have a lancer GTS and the manual transmission is no problem.. what kind of comparison is this......

  • When are the ridgecrest rally classes?

  • just get a evo

  • 6 suby owners got confused and clicked on this video!

  • saying whoa every 10 seconds is annoying....ur in a car on dirt...what were you expecting? fat american out of breath ...

  • @jtfraijo shut up euro trash troll.

  • saying whoa every 10 seconds is annoying....ur in a car on dirt...what were you expecting?

  • What a lot of people don't understand is that the Ralliart has the Evo X engine(With a single scroll turbo the Evo has a double scroll) and the drivetrain of the Evo IX With a few mods you'll have a Ralliart as fast as an Evo in no time.

  • out of curiousity... why not leave it in tarmac if you want RWD bias?

  • 9:12, upper right corner. badass camry.

  • I think that if he has a professional on the car with him, he should let the professional talk instead of scream "dorifto!" and then hyperventilate like crazy...

  • GTI. HANDS DOWN

  • Hey matt im getting my licence in a few months and ive saved up a little more than 10k and my dads gona match it so i got to 20-22k to work with and was wondering if a new 2010 base model gti or a 09 mazdaspeed3 would be better ?? im not set on anything so if youve got any other ideas let me know. thx.

  • I'd buy a new GTI over a used MS3, but I'd rather get a Mazda MX-5 or any number of used cars for that kind of money, here's a list of stuff you can get for $20k

    E39 M5

    C5 Corvette

    E46 M3

    B5 S4

    05-06 Saleen Mustang S281E

    E30 M3

    06-07 WRX STI

    06-07 Evo XIII/IV

  • kk thx for the advice.

  • I would agree with getting the E30 M3 for that money, however if you are just getting your license its prob not a good idea. I say this because the M3 was born to be a track car, and keeping it on the road and beating the crap out of the few that are left is the last thing any BMW fan such as myself would like to see. (Also VERY expensive to fix)

  • @TheSmokingTire

    E30 M3s are disgusting.

Also for 20k you can get the most unreal older GTI, better performance. Also if you live VW look into MK2s, similar in style to E30s.

    STIs are dirty too

But obviously we have different tastes but for 20k Saleen Mustangs are headturners.

  • @TheSmokingTire Key question: Which one costs the least to insure?

  • @TheSmokingTire Im sorry buy you guys can get an e39 M5 for 20k? I just bought a second hand '94 mx-5 for 6k, and that was quite a bargain... Damn I have to get myself to the states!

Keep up the good work with the show!

    With regards from the netherlands,

    Stephan.

  • @TheSmokingTire what do u think is the fastest civic si, mazda speed3, or wrx and which one would u pick out of the three try to get back to me, thanks

  • @hawkplayer27 man get a subaru wrx, its amazing, its fast, all wheel drive, turbo, i love it!!

  • @hawkplayer27 Get an EVO IX for $20k... Really good car.. AWD FTW!!!

  • @hawkplayer27 if its your first car i wouldn't get any of the cars below. I mean really a corvette for your first car? you will just wreck yourself no offense.

  • Is that a Camry at 9:14?!

I was wondering if rallycross could be done in "any car", and apparently it can!

  • yes it is, and yes it can. Having said that, you want a car with some ground clearance at the very least.

  • @TheSmokingTire What about a FoxBody Mustang?

  • O.O he was on Bullrun this season. Why is the Charger always the one in the Black Shine commercials?

  • beacuse it was available on the day they shot the commercials.....

  • ok matt, i want to know. mitsubishi lancer sportback rallyart or volkswagen golf gti. for argument's sake, we'll say they're both about the same price and both with a dsg. which one should i buy in terms of driving dynamics?

  • GTI

  • lol! your fat ass is running out of breath just driving a car.

  • Good review

  • What's the story on Team Hemi Cuda? I love Bullrun. This season is shaping up to be pretty interesting already!

  • I just like how they play the game....

  • Is the mustang at 00:28 one that Foose designed? I remember seeing an episode of overhaulin' where they made on that looks like it.

  • probably, it's from SEMA.

  • yeah but Chip designed it for a private owner, not a show car.

  • could be, although this car appeared to be owned by Magnaflow....

  • Nice vid matt. I'm jealous. You guys should have go Mitsubishi to get you a Evo to have some fun with

  • we went to mitsubishi for both these cars. The Evo wasn't available.

  • Show idea!

In light of today's episode of FLD (and especially the comments), I think you should make an episode about driving school and driver's ed reform

It seems most Americans don't even know how to slide the shifter to neutral.

  • sweet show man i love it

  • great show matt

  • Comment removed

  • 23000 USD for the Lancer GTS...ouch.

  • dual clutches don't like left foot braking and handbrake is bad for a centre diff. but if it's not your car it don't matter

  • great episode guys :)

  • SUBARU !!!!!!

  • Dirt is better than Asphalt.

  • im pretty sure it can

  • you do not want the cvt in the gts, trust me, i have one.

  • it couldn't possibly be worse than the manual....

  • There were two Evos running that weekend, an 8 and a 10. They kick ass on dirt.

  • the rally-prepped Evo X MR was awesome, and very fast.

  • Dirt's fun, but I prefer snow.

  • Awesome shirt Matt!! and very nice review :)

  • My brother did pretty good in his IROC camaro in the mud, the car looked crazy when we were done. Sure had a lot of weird stares from people, wondering why an Iroc had mud everywhere.

  • DO-RIFT-O! haha

  • farah, u giggle like a girl

    very annoying!

  • that's how I laugh. Either deal with it or watch another show.

  • should have used the evo x off road

  • Just ugly cars.

  • lol its a sportback not an actual ralliart... LOl

  • it's a Ralliart Sportback. The ralliart is available in Sedan and sportback form.

  • are you guys streamed on other websites like you used to before autostream or are you just on youtube now??

  • we're on all the sites. itunes, streetfire, veoh, etc..

  • Sepcial Thanks!

  • Bull Run is garbage.

  • Infuckingdeed

  • i will sponsor u guys on my car !

  • 10:05; IDOITS CAN'T SPELL. SEPCIAL

  • ha! tom needs to use spell check....

  • bullrun is back on speed? when?

  • Thursdays 10pm first episode was last week

  • Thanks Matt for answering my question, and for this vid. Going to a racing/ rally school can be more intuitive than I thought. With all those cones, it's kind of like autocross except on a surface with little traction.

  • What about the Civic Si? 200hp 2.0L N/A. Ultimate Throttle response (:

  • @c312eal doesn't change the fact that it's slow and front wheel drive

  • the FD2 isn't that slow. The Type R in Japan can take on a AP2 and beat it around a track. The Si version in North America is just a little slower than the Type R. And I'm pretty sure it's faster than the Ralliart

  • we reviewed the Civic Si a few episodes back, have a look.

  • Wish honda would make a awd si sedan for around 20k

  • i have no clue why people would pay 19k for a GTS......i would rather walk...

  • It's all about preference.

  • WHATTTTT what happened to the freggen awsome opeaning song!!!!

  • we have a couple intros, and we go back and forth. we're working on having a rotation of 5 different ones.

  • the other one is wayyyyy more awesome

  • subarus hatch still looks better than the sport back, i still would have the wrx or sti in the hatch though, i kinda like it although i am up for going back to the old style. But i admit i am a fan or subaru over mitsu, something about an old 3000gt vr4 isnt sitting right. lol. Smoking tire can we get an impreza now. lol.

  • i used to have a 96 vr4 :(

  • thank you sooo much for changing the intro!!!

  • for the price of a new RalliArt you can have a used EVO 8 or 9

so why go for something not as good?

    just my opinion

oh and you get a REAL transmission too =D

  • @bedcap plus one for real transmission.

  • yeah you can get used evos or stis for around 14k

  • @bedcap lol pretty much ture, checked out used 08 evo x GSRs and most of them have about 18k on the odo and are at.....$26k :D yeah...tempting....also found out that a I could get a 08 MR for about the same price as a '10 RA :P...need to win the lottery.

  • I will go there

  • Was that some kind of blue vinyl behind the wheels and on the mirrors?

  • it's just blue painters tape, commonly used at racetracks to protect the paint from rocks, dirt, etc. it comes off really easy and can protect very effectively for a day at the track or in the dirt.

  • "dorifto!" lmao.. DoriDori Farah?

Drifting = being able to maintain the slide.

If you clutch kick a rwd vehicle you can drift until you run out of road or tread. FWD cars just kicks back into line or oversteers and spins out if you're at too much of an angle cause you cant countersteer the wheels moving the vehicle.

    P.S.

that cone had it coming >:O

  • that comment was referring to the AWD ralliart, not the FWD car.

  • Unfortunately, the price premium of the ralliart puts it into WRX territory and imho the WRX is superior on power and fun.

  • no hd?

  • the HD feed isn't done processing. When you watch the video, a Tan bar appears on the top of the page informing you that it's not done yet.

  • Isn't 6061 aluminum aka t6 aircraft? I wanna try welding that I can tig regular alum easy but I wounder how different that stuff is. I can't wait to try out chromoly and learn pipe welding.

Dirt and gravel is hella fun I haven't driven an AWD car yet but I like rwd lightweight cars like AE86 or S13 far better than FWD cars.

Heck even the benz w123 was fun honda accord not so much kinda like that lancer you drove.

  • jesus dude get to a gym, ur huffing and puffing from just driving.

  • driving as fast as possible while talking as much as possible in a car with the windows up and the vents off is very difficult. What ends up being a 1 minute segment is more like 10 minutes of me driving around, and by the end it gets very tiring. I'm not saying I'm in perfect shape, but this stuff isn't as easy as it looks.

  • also, when I wear a helmet, I put the microphone on the chin of it, which is about half an inch from my mouth, as opposed to down on my collar where it normally goes, so breathing is greatly amplified.

  • or you could reduce the drag coeffecient by shaving off your beard/mutton chops

  • but then random people on the street wouldn't immediately recognize me, which happens quite often specifically because of the sideburns, so no, they stay.

  • @XenoRacing

aww come on guy its part of the look

  • Hey Matt, very cool episode! Drifting/Rallying IS great. We've had a lot of snow here in VA recently and let me tell you, even with a CVT equipped boxer 4 cylinder (n/a), my girlfriends 2010 Impreza was a BLAST to drift in the snow.

Wish they had a school like that near Richmond. There is def. enough farm land around here!

  • Too much fun lol. I like the Lancers/Evos and I also like the WRX STi hatch, but not the the Lancer hatch.

  • I have a 2005 Evo VIII, and I think it's way more fun to drive than the Evo X. I prefer the 4G63T engine to the 4B11T engine.

Also I think that ralliart has the same AWD system as the old U.S. Evo 8's and 9's. It just has the ACD though. The Evo X has the ACD and the AYC.

  • wtf is up with the paint job on the ralliart

  • It's blue, but if you're referring to the blue painters tape around the wheel arches, it was to protect our loaned car from scratches on the dirt.

  • @TheSmokingTire

makes sense, it looked like the paint was coming up or something. but now it all makes sense

  • @TST was there a Dakota behind you when you did the run in the RalliArt? I think i see a ford badge (ranger?) but the front looks exactly like mine, same headlights same color. BTW, a guy I know who has a base Lancer says that the paddle shifter suck on his car. I think his exact words where "I could hit the upshift paddle, get out and run around the car, get back in and it would only just have shifted into the next gear". That may be without sport mode though.

  • Don't remember a Dakota, but there was a ranger there for sure.

  • America!!! Fuck Yeah!

  • I am conserned about Matt's health. He has grown since CA. and he is out of breath alot. Arent you suposed to be able to run and carry on a conversation.

  • Actually, I'm 3 lbs lighter now than when I moved out here. And trying to drive as fast as possible while talking, in a hot car with the vents off and the windows closed, is very, very difficult.

  • I beg to differ also! I drift my 01 chevy malibu all the time.

  • I'm not a sportback fan either

  • STI is still better

  • The Ralliart has a manual box option??? .............HMMM!!!! :D

Have not seen or heard about that RA option.

I think the RA is only offered with the TwinClutch box...... looked many times.

    With that being said:

Now my previous comment makes even more sense.... bad move mitsu, bad move..... ok ok, not a "bad move"; but a missed opportunity to take on an opponent that mitsu has never been able to take on, in regards to performance and price (the wrx).

  • no the ralliart only comes with the SST.

  • I'm sorry, I was wrong there. I stand corrected.

  • all gooooooood.... now how about that The Smoking Tire shirt?? :D

    LOL! j/k

  • great video, i liked the old intro better though.

  • we're going back and forth, and working on a third one too.

  • hey this might be a wired comparison i know but the fiat 500 abarth esseesse has 160 hp and 230 ft pounds of torque. so how would it compare to that FWD lancer??

  • it doesn't have 230 lb/ft of torque, it has 170. I'm sure it would be faster though, since it's a few hundred pounds lighter.

  • correction, it's almost 1,000 pounds lighter. yeah, it would be much faster than the base lancer.

  • oh yeah right got my facts wrong there. thanx for the info tho

  • are you going to review the new gti?

  • yes, in a few weeks

  • @TheSmokingTire

Farah- I have a 2008 base model Impreza (except it has an auto tranny). I'm more than happy to supply any feedback you want on it.

  • sure, tell us something.... the only thing I know about it is that it's ugly as fuck.

  • Also don't forget the '08 WRX is a waste. It wasn't until '09 where they put a real engine in it

  • Also don't forget the 08' wrx is the ONLY wrx that "is a waste"....

They HAD a "real engine" in the 07'......

  • I have the sedan instead of the hatchback, I don't think it's that ugly. The biggest problem is there is NO power. God damn that thing is slow. I'm 6 feet tall 250 lbs and a competitive strongman, so fitting four people my size can be a squeeze, but the driver/passenger space is better than my grandfather's 2010 A6. Goes in all weather without flinching, pathetic trunk space due to some kind of box that sticks down in the trunk and ridiculous trunk arms that stick down into it when its closed

  • Or... you could get a WRX.

  • so whats more fun in dirt, the rally cars or the ford raptor? since you mentioned bullrun

  • well the Raptor may not do so well on some of the tighter, more technical sections since it's simply too large and heavy compared to a little Mitsubishi or Subaru. On a reasonably flat piece of dirt, the little cars are more fun to slide around. Out in the desert, the Raptor can go many places that these cars can't go, and at a very high speed. They are both fun, but in different ways.

  • is there any chance you guys could put together a pontiac episode showing pontiacs old and new? as a final goodbye type thing?

  • negative. There is no such thing as a Pontiac press car anymore.

  • how come there is no HD option??

  • the video isn't done processing yet, check back in a couple hours.

  • hmm who understands the whole lecture????

    Jus let us drive

  • Comment removed

  • Front wheel drive cars are set up to understeer, where you turn the wheel and the car goes straight, which is also known as pushing.

  • FWD pushes wide..... its called ummm understeer.

  • Why did Mitsu not offer the Rally Art with the evo's 5sp manual as well?!?!

I wonder what it would have cost without that twin clutch.......

I was HOPING an evo was going to pop-up at the end and get to take a lap... would have been siiiiiiick!

Funny and entertaining episode, good stuff.

  • No one on the crew had driven a Ralliart with a manual transmission. It's possible that it could be much better than the base car's, but I simply don't know. The only manual Evo's I've driven have had aftermarket shifters in them.

  • It seems like with the new TwinClutch, there would have been a lot of money initially invested into the creation of it...

    Which makes me think:

Why did Mitsu not just over-engineer a new 5/6 speed manual box for the evo/ra? It would have cost TONS less in development, and it would have contributed to a cheaper sticker price.

I personally think the RallyArt would be a TRUE wrx competitor if it was equipped with the evo's 5sp manual instead of that twinclutch.

    Quicker, Lighter, Cheaper = Win!

  • having thought about this for the last day or so, i think it may be because they had an excess of SST transmissions laying around, as fewer people than expected were ordering Evo MR's and it's an easy value-adder on a less expensive car. Just speculation, but it's possible. That's how Chevrolet started making the Z06, out of an excess supply of Fixed Roof Coupe C5's.

  • Brought the ZO6 *back* you meant?..... out of an excess supply. Agreed.

Did Mitsu really think they would sell that many more MRs than they did???...... Or did they think selling the RalliArt with only the twin clutch would make it more appealing??? (lol)

Either way, it is not smart (maybe even foolish) to ONLY offer the RA with a twinclutch.

Seriously, what would a RalliArt weigh, and cost with the evo's 5sp manual in place of the twinclutch?? :D

    Lighter + Cheaper = Win!!!

  • oops....

    Quicker, Lighter, Cheaper = Win!!!!

  • yes, I mean brought the Z06 back during the C5 generation, not the late 1960's version.

  • It kinda seems like the C6 ZR1 fender vents are modeled after the 60's ZO6 vents..... they are awesome vents after all...

On another note: Do you any videos concerning your vette mods?????

  • I've mentioned the full list of mods in the car washing series i think, but no, nothing besides that.

  • did she say they dont want you speeding? its a time attack lmao

  • she was referring to the fact that you can't speed on transit stages in rally. A transit stage is when you drive from one closed stage to another on a public road, which is why all rally cars must be street legal.

  • I liked the music from the other intro better, sounds just liek the rest of the car shows now -1

  • Can you guys visit a HPA location? Ready to modufy the crap out of my 04 R32

  • @damianson modify* XD

  • What is a HPA location?

  • I would like to see the EVO on dirt as well but the point of the ralliart was proven clearly.

  • There's something interesting in Ridgrecrest!?!? I must have been there a hundred times and never found anything to do ever. I'll hit that up next time I'm in town.

  • Nothing to do in ridgecrest except flog cars on a big dirt lot.

  • nice job man... ive beenwaiting for sum1 to compare a normal to a all out sports model.

  • yeah 94 mustang!
