Yeah, I've always had to wonder if Bun was Ambidexterous, seeing as that he sets up and plays lefty in most of their vids, and sets up righty on the gigs. But as a fellow southpaw who plays right handed, I gotta say, thanks for inadvertantly solving the mystery.
since this was likely overdubbed for broadcast, I gotta wonder why Rick bothered to play a red Strat copy when his "little Ricky" Hamer was so much more in character. Perhaps we'll never know...
I don't know why but I always kinda take these guys for granted like they'll always be around, and never really give enough thought to how great Cheap Trick really are. I get the feeling these guys are gonna be sorely missed when it's too late. Kinda like The Ramones, now it's cool to like The Ramones but I remember when my brother and I were the only people we knew that liked The Ramones. It was probably like that with The Stooges or Captain Beefheart but that was a little before my time.
Great video. Love Cheap Trick! Did Bun E., Jon, and Robin have a contest?...Who could wear the most layers of heavy clothing on the hot beach? Kudos to Rick's idea of throwing on a T-shirt.
No it's not MTV. It was a show that was on one of the networks, just for that one season. It was essentially an American Bandstand knock off, but they filmed it on the beach (as you can see). I remember one episode actually had a performance by The Ventures, which was even more ridiculous, because they're an instrumental group, but they too were miming to playback.

@Rockstaralan I believe Bun is indeed ambidextrous. I recall in 16 Magazine about 30 years ago, where someone wrote in and said he (or she) had heard that Bun was ambidextrous. Apparently, the person thought it was some kind of medical condition and hoped "it isn't serious". Whichever hack at the magazine that was staffed with replying explained that it just meant he could certain things both lefty and righty. Mind you, like I said, this was 30 years ago, so I may not be remembering correctly.
WOW! This must have re-broadcast or something.....unless they bought the rights to it from ABC....I remember watching this in 1985. The show was hosted by the dude from Blue Lagoon. Its floated around the bootleg world for years, but never this crystal clear.
I love the song ,sounds like the recorded version.

Thus the mystery is solved!

Wild video. I've never seen it before. MTV Spring Break 1985, maybe? That doesn't even look like Rick Nielsen! Wow!

Lip syncing was a common practice on TV back then. We all know Cheap trick could have rocked the beach that day and probably did.

Bun E. Carlos i thought he was right handed
imdakid97 2 years ago
he's left handed, but learned to play right handed, not unlike Ringo
most people back then just emulated their idols, and they of course didn't have the internet, so they set their kit up like their idols.
Bun E. is so awesome, i've seen them twice, the second time we got FRONT ROW in front of Rick, and it was my 2 kids first concert, and they loved it
they're now die hard Trick fans
