i've seen some George Thorogood live videos from Germany around 1980.... (and other cool stuff from 70s) the fans are in full freak mode dancing and carrying on... doing everyone proud
This guys were so innovative that people of the time didn't know how to react to this kind of music. I watched Zeppelin, Sabbath or Priest videos and I could see people dancing to "Iron Man". Anyway, good music is timeless and so is Deep Purple!
The best Deep Purple Line Up ever !!! I saw Dp with Steve Morse and he really did a great job , he's a great gitarist , maybe better than Blackmore but this Line Up is a legend !!!!!!! the same with Black Sabbath ...without Ozzy ?????????????
The beginning 70's were a very complicated time in Germany. So many changes in lifestyle and music. Watch the music 10 years before... Today we know better and if I could travel back in time and see this performance I sure would be one of the craziest persons of this crowd :-) RITCHIE BLACKMORE.... my HERO !!!
No, no, you guys have to remember this is 1971. Hard rock itself was just now getting defined. Deep purple being proto-metal, it would take the world a little time for them to know "what to do" in a situation like this. After all, look at where they are playing.
Go check-out "Deep Purple - Child in Time HD 1970 ( UK TV show ) full version" and you will see the most sedate stunned audience. I don't think they had a clue what they were watching. A mild applause at the end though.
@ordepcbmt LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL. No, seriously.
@ordepcbmt I will agree that Blackmore is better than Page, but while Page is a little sloppy sometimes he is still a very good guitarist, he had great speed
@ordepcbmt Jimmy Page would eat you alive on the guitar bud. No questions asked. Ritchie Blackmore is a sicko too, but Jimmy Page would eat you alive on the guitar.

4:14 Earlier when they startet they used to be much more progressive and things, and now when they make the big money they don't give a shit about their music. They just play the rubbish what the industry dictates. Not their own thing anymore, like Child in Time from In Rock and so on.
4:51 I have already seen DP two times, and the third time is just to much because they always play the same. They don't improvise as much as other bands.
From 5:09 Terrific! - Shredded tremendously. - For thirteen-year-olds. - To much rock(music). - Very nice people here. (Old Man^^)
(Btw I hate it if someone cuts of the edges of old 4:3 tv footage just to fill out the new monitors... there could have been things worth seeing guys! -.-)
Cool. I wish I understood German b/c I'm curious what all those people are saying, especially the old guy. Anybody know German and can help out? Thanks.
I read somewher that DP is the biggest selling group of all time in Germany. More record sales then Zep, Beatles and the Stones. Is this true? If it is it is really strange that the people interviewed didn't like. They must of thought they were going to an ABBA concert.
@jpscoey so you are saying that only because some good bands like deep purple (my favorite band ever) were english, every english person can make god music? and germans can't of course. so show me your band. and if you answer to my comment, try to make it without bad words, that leads to no where, you know? ;)
@ jpscoey - It's common knowledge that the TV audience during the 70s was "well selected" and not that freaky and exuberant in public as nowadays. My friends and I were great fans of Deep Purple and shouted "Lazy" all over the places in my hometown Cologne, which is well known for their lack of humour especially during the carnival season. Before you continue to spread your prejudices against Germans have a look at "Child in Time" from the BBC Studios in London. Are they all German tourists?
It's unbelievable how 'non-plussed' that German audience look at the obvious brilliance that's in front of them. Their lack of humour is well known, but to lack appreciation of superb music aswell is is mind-boggling!!!

For what the germans are saying: (btw: it was a special on a television-exhibition called "Music Today")
4:11 Much to loud, DP. Much to loud.
4:14 Earlier when they startet they used to be much more progressive and things, and now when they make the big money they don't give a shit about their music. They just play the rubbish what the industry dictates. Not their own thing anymore, like Child in Time from In Rock and so on.

4:30 I like DP, I like "Emergency" too, I don't like "Mungo Jerry"...
4:36 I think the whole thing is quite a succes, because the line up of bands quite suits the title "music today".
4:42 Well "Mungo Jerry" always play in the same style "..."
4:47 I'm here to see DP. Solely.
4:50 Well I thought it was shit.
4:51 I have already seen DP two times, and the third time is just to much because they always play the same. They don't improvise as much as other bands.

4:58 DP was actually the best (of the bands)

@zephranna01 I understand very well.
I'm a musician myself (in a rock band).
The time & place to get exited
(as a FEW of the audience did) is when a band are rockin'
You are talking nonsense.
Get real - that audience were sh*t.....
& I'd bet if you asked Deep Purple about it,
they'd say it it was one of their most 'forgettable' gigs.
