There is an updated version of the m48 called m86. The main difference is the barrel is made of some synthetic fibermaterial (cant recall what it is) and some of hte other parts are also made from lighter material.
They were firing 'RAP' rounds: Rocket Assisted Projectiles. So the weapon is considered a 'recoilless rifle', but with a RAP round it is, in essence, a rocket launcher as well.
correct me if im wrong for that rocket luncher it dose not have any recole but when you shot it it will it feel like a punch. i think i was told that at mito armory. i was there for soldier for a day in winnipeg mb
The thing about the Charlie G is that the current rifle isn't that much different from the 1948 model (other than being a bit lighter, with external steel parts replaced by aluminium and plastic). The ammunition has been constantly upgraded over the decades. The oldest rounds wouldn't be as effective as an RPG7, newer rounds would be more effective.
To give you some idea, in 1982 a CG round put an Argentinian corvette in dry dock for three days of repairs at more than twice the range of an RPG7
It may be recoil-less, but the backblast itself is like a shockwave in your bones. Wonderful, just wonderful. :)

Ehm, the reloader should check for backblast in 90 degree angle. When it's safe he shouts ready to fire so none get hurt from backblast..

The Carl-G is like the C-130 Hercules, old but hard to replace because of reliablity.
